Packaging:
The sunscreen is sold in a larger cardboard box, with the product itself held within an upright plastic tube. Ingredients are not listed on the tube, only on the box. It has a very sturdy and secure cap, which can actually be a bit difficult to open sometimes but which makes it great for throwing in my bag. The lid will however accumulate a bit of sunscreen; none of it leaks out but it’s just a bit wasteful/gross. Since it stands upright you also don’t need to worry about product coming out too quickly when dispensing.
Formula:
Active ingredient is Titanium Dioxide. A milky and slightly chalky consistency. It’s totally white, no fragrance that I can detect. Directions say to shake well before use, and I do think it goes on more smoothly if you make sure to really shake it up well. Because of the slight chalkiness it goes on quite smooth and matte, making it a great choice in very hot/humid climates or for individuals with oily skin. The bottle claims that this sunscreen is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes and it does seem to be the case; when I first tried it I applied way too much, but since I was in a public washroom I did not have anything to remove it with besides water. Splashing my face repeatedly did nothing to budge the sunscreen until I rubbed it off with a paper towel, which really only removed excess product.
Performance:
This works very well as a sunscreen with regards to preventing burns. I’ve worn it on my face, sometimes my ears, and sometimes my neck and chest, both for daily minimal sun exposure and on days I spent greater time in direct sunlight (a time frame under which I’d easily burn if not wearing sunscreen). It goes on mostly smooth, but that depends on how well hydrated the skin is before application. If I have any dry flakes they are made more apparent, but I don’t believe that the product contributes to dryness (since I had previously been overexfoliating my face, I’m still recovering and as such flaking skin continues to be an issue, so I cannot actually tell if the sunscreen influences these flakes). I’m able to wear this over my eyes without any burning/irritation, I can wear it under makeup without my makeup smearing and rubbing off anywhere – althouhg I do wear powder foundation. It does leave a bit of a white cast since it’s a wholly mineral-based sunscreen. Since I’m very fair to begin with and my face is a bit darker than my neck I don’t really mind the whitening effect too much, especially because it seems to minimize as it sinks into the skin and can be covered with makeup. Product is easy to remove with oil. I will say that it’s definitely terrible for reapplication though, resulting in a very chalky white mess and really brings out any dryness (especially on cheeks and around my brows), so I’ve only been using this as a morning sunscreen that gets worn throughout the day. If I need to reapply I will use another sunscreen throughout the day. Does not seem to be causing me any breakouts, most likely helped by the proper removal with oil.
Bang for your Buck:
I paid around $18 CAD for 100ml at Superstore, although I’ve seen it for up to $20 at other places. Definitely pricey if you plan on using it on multiple body parts, but if used only for the face it’s a decent price.
Final Consensus:
Overall a pretty good sunscreen, not without it’s few issues (which brings my rating down to a 4). I’ll continue to use it and play around with it but I’m also definitely open to trying other sunscreens. Definitely recommend it to those with oilier skin, although it still works for my combo-dry, dehydrated skin.
