For a mineral sunscreen this works as you’d expect it to but it can be a little hard to spread, especially if you have dry skin. I believe they have changed the packaging of this to a squeezy tube (that’s what I have). I use their Antioxidant Facial Oil underneath to help it rub in but it’s still not the easiest for me. There is zinc oxide and antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, ferulic acid; HA, some oils and shea butter in here, all with a lovely fresh scent and a smooth texture. But… it will leave a white cast so you kind of have to work with this to not have it be obvious or you have to use less than you might normally apply. It’s fine if you are wearing foundation overtop. Not my favorite sunscreen but not horrible. Regardless, it’s not one I would repurchase as there are others that are much more cosmetically elegant.

The one I have is in a tube not a bottle.
You need to shake it well! Otherwise it leaves a shockingly white cast. But even when shaken well the white cast is still visible and doesn’t fade. I look very ghostly and I have to remove it around my eyebrows because it clings to the hairs there.
There is a strong flowery smell in the beginning.
I’m not really 100% in love with it, but I can tell it’s a good quality product with good ingredients.
I don’t think I will rebuy.

Rather on the fence about this. It has a strong scent, but I find it fades pretty quickly, but the thing that really puzzles me is the white cast it leaves. I’m not dark skinned (nc25-30) and I can still see a white cast if I use the recommended 1/4 tsp. amount. It’s moisturizing enough for me in the colder weather, but it’s too much in the summer for me. All in all, I don’t really care for it; I don’t hate it either, but I don’t like it enough to keep it, so into the donation pile it goes.

After starting to use a few of Mad Hippie’s other products (the Vitamin C and Exfoliating serums), I decided to take a chance on their facial sunscreen. I tend to enjoy more mineral-based formulas, which this definitely is! I’d been using Farmacy’s Green Screen, and picked this up after finishing my last tube of Green Screen. It was also less expensive and didn’t involve a trip to the mall to pick up; one of the things I really enjoy about Mad Hippie is that in my area, it’s sold in multiple chains of supermarkets and I don’t have to go out of my way to get it.
Because the main active ingredient is Zinc Oxide (16%), I expected some degree of white cast on application (despite claims otherwise). On me, the white cast never faded completely. On one hand, it cancelled out a little bit of redness, but on the other, it made me look pretty ghastly and washed out. On days when I applied makeup on top, it wasn’t a big deal, but with the sunscreen alone, I looked a little dead (for reference, I’m NC 20-25-ish in summer).
The feel of the formula was fine, you should definitely shake the bottle before applying. It didn’t feel too “lotiony” which a lot of sunscreens do, and wasn’t heavy or greasy on my face, even the oily areas. The coverage was effective, so the product did its job.
The smell is strong. If you don’t like wearing florals or enjoy the smell of rose, this is not for you. In my experience, the smell did not fade over time, and people around me could instantly pick up on it. It’s not necessarily a bad smell, but it’s definitely a smell.
All in all, not a bad product. I’ll be finishing my tube but more likely on my chest and hands, not my face. I enjoy Mad Hippie as a brand, but this product didn’t work as well for me as I’d hoped.

THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING!!! I looked up every single ingredient it’s RATED AS 1 on EWG. It goes on wonderfully, not chalky, smells great and not drying
Also, this is better for lighter skin… it’s goes on white but rubs in nicely!

This, somehow, is a sunscreen with zinc that doesn’t leave that awful, white cast on the skin. I freaking love you, Mad Hippie.
I don’t know how many times I’m going to use the word “light” in a review for Mad Hippie, but yet again, this formula is light and comfortable, spreads nicely, smells good and not too strong, and doesn’t leave any sort of filmy, greasy feeling. It absorbs well. It has a considerably thin texture, but I don’t think it will run everywhere unless you pump out a ton, which wouldn’t be necessary. I’d say about a quarter teaspoon (odd measurement for sunscreen but it’s almost 1am. I’m trying!) would suffice for face and most of the neck. The only thing I’ll say, and I think this is just because of the way my skin is, I almost feel like it dries my skin slightly. The same thing happened when I used to use CeraVe zinc sunscreen (though that is much heavier). All I have to do though is add a bit more moisturizer than I normally would before I apply this and I’m good to go. A+.
Given that one should use sunscreen every time they go outside, the price may be a bit steep for a 1.94oz. bottle at $24.99. Also, this is the same issue I’ve had with the other products that have the same packaging: the design is super cute and I love the look of the labeling and the container itself, but I can’t tell how much I have left, or how I’ll get out the rest when it’s running too low for the pump to be effective. Still, a relatively minor complaint. I will just have to use my judgment when ordering a new one! 🙂

The product name for Makeup Alley reviews is Facial SPF 30+ UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum, and there is so far no picture. The actual product name is “Facial SPF.” That’s the product name. This is something I really can’t stand in recent years — the adoption of “SPF” as a stand alone noun. It’s all over the media — “products with SPF” and “don’t forget to apply SPF!” Shudder!! SPF is a measurement and meaningless by itself. It’s like saying “Today’s weather has degrees.” I actually emailed the company about this and the response was very very nice and friendly, but I don’t know if they really got it — they seemed to think it was a worry about “confusing” the customers and assured me the 30 SPF info appears below on the bottle. It’s not a matter at all of confusion, nobody is confused; it’s about aesthetics and not destroying the language. I tried a sample at one point and seems fine for a natural sunscreen, hence the 4 stars. But it isn’t a sunscreen; it’s an “SPF.”

This sunscreen is perfection in a bottle! I have searched for the past 7 years for the perfect zinc oxide sunscreen and I think I have finally found it!! I am not sure if they reformulated it after the last review below, because on me it is not white at all but blends in very well and is undetectable on skin (granted I am pretty fair about NC 15 to 20, so not sure if it is whiter on darker tones). The texture is fluidy (not a thick cream) and feels lightweight, not heavy or greasy like many zinc oxide sunscreens. It is also not drying – many zinc oxide sunscreens dry my skin out terribly but this one feels hydrating. It rubs in fairly quickly, and unlike other zinc oxide sunscreens like Tatcha and Drunk Elephant, it does not peel/pill up and flake off when put on top of moisturizers/serums or under foundation. It imparts a beautiful finish to skin – hydrated and smooth and plumped, and perfectly ready for makeup. My makeup applies very well over this. It is much less white than many zinc oxide sunscreens like Cotz, Shiseido etc. And I love the ingredients (no alcohol, no additional chemical sunscreen filters, no fragrances!) and the price – I got mine on sale for $12 on iHerb.com and will snatch up some more! If you are looking for a zinc oxide sunscreen I highly recommend you try this one.

I stumbled upon this at a local health food store a few months and I was so excited to find a sunscreen that smelled so lovely! It also contains goof-for-you carrot seed oil, avocado oil and red raspberry seed oil. I tried to look up reviews for this on my before purchasing but couldn’t find ones I trusted. So I decided to give it a shot… I put it on without using a mirror and was truly delighted by the scent and the new natural sunscreen I found. Unfortunately, my brother saw my face a few minutes later and asked why it was so white and when I looked in the mirror I just couldn’t help but laugh!! It was ghostly white! Worse than any other facial sunscreen I have tried. I have used it maybe 10x since that first day and every time it makes my face white and my boyfriends. It’s also a little hard to wash off. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this nice smelling sunscreen because it’s quite ridiculous. I just use small amounts on certain freckles. I use La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultralight Sunscreen Fluid which is higher in SPF and is a lot less “whitening.”
