HG high-zinc physical sunscreen!
Why I love it:
– Almost NO white cast. (I’m pale, NC15, so it might still be bothersome for darker skintones.)
– 18,6 % non-nano zinc oxide in a sensible, simple formulation (no heavy oils, no fragrance or essential oils)
– Light, easily spreadable texture; you can apply the correct amount without turning into a ghost or greaseball
– Non-irritating, non-comedogenic (for me, that is)
– Affordable (although I wish it was easier to obtain, only sells online)
In addition: I find this far more moisturizing than most comparable zinc sunscreens. It doesn’t dry all matte and stays slightly tacky during the day, which my dehydrated skin loves. This also means that make up applies nicely on top.

This is my daily face and neck sunscreen for the past 4 years. This actually dries down to somewhat matte finish on my combination skin.
Cons:
the availability. They don’t ship internationally so I need to get 3rd party to ship this to Singapore.
It’s not water resistant nor sweat resistant as well.
Singapore is very humid so it’s more suitable for daily work/office use only.
On weekend (esp when the weather is hot shiny bright) it will melt off. On touch of water or sweat, it turns into white spots, although you can just lightly press/pat the whitish spot and it will be gone.
I need to set this up with Urban Decay setting spray to make it last thru the day (~12 hours). It doesn’t rub off easily once I set with setting spray.
I apply it on the face and just apply concealer where I need and loose powder all over. With blush/bronzer, and set with a setting spray. Upon contact with setting spray it will turn slightly white, so I usually will put additional bronzer when needed.
I still get oily mid day but I just blot with tissue and the sunscreen is still there, not wiped off.

This review is for the 2017 (ish) formulation, white 2.4oz tube, blue lettering.
Here are the ingredients:
I’d recommend this sunscreen to anyone who has normal skin (not especially dry or dehydrated) that can be sensitive.
Shipping was quite fast, I was impressed with how quickly it came from the company. Price is decent for a facial sunscreen. It has a very, VERY slight “green” smell–probably the chlorophyll in the plant extracts, NOT at all herbally or essential oily, and folks with less keen noses would call it scentless. It’s fairly moisturizing/hydrating and applies like a lotion, it’s easy to apply the full 1/4 teaspoon (I was actually able to apply a bit more), and spreads quite easily (MUCH better than Thinksport or Vanicream-like formulas. dries down quicker than Topix Replenix spray (which stays wet forever then when it finally dries is slightly drying on me) or oil-based sunscreens (which are oily but not hydrating). However, it dries down to quite a matte finish and I felt my skin getting a little dehydrated. This is not a weightless sunscreen like the Asian fluid types. It does have some body to it, and feels a bit “siliconey” once it dries down, similar to mineral sunscreens like Cotz or Elta MD. Suprisingly, very little white cast for a non-nano, untinted, “crunchy” brand. Much less than Thinksport/Vanicream types, maayybe slightly more than Topix Replenix and the Asian physicals I’ve tried? Aside from the slight dryness, it’s really an excellent sunscreen for the price. I could probably manage to wear a moisturizer underneath and go with it, but I want to try the Family version first (orange tube, blue letters, quite cheap!).

For people who loved and used the original formula of Burnout Clean and Clear sunscreen, you will know what I’m talking about here. Like you, I was using the Burnout Clean and Clear that came in the blue/white tube for a few years and loved that it provided very good protection on top of being cosmetically elegant which is a rare combo when it comes to high zinc content sunscreens in general. In short, it was my HG sunscreen. Three weeks ago, not knowing the formula had been changed, I ordered more only to discover it was no longer the cosmetically elegant sunscreen it used to be. Instead of the matte finish, it is now VERY greasy/oily, heavier and harder to apply. It also took a long time to dry even after letting it set. Applying powder on top of it didn’t help the greasiness much and it still left my face shiny, not to mention it was very hard applying makeup over it. In other words, I HATE the new formula. I have an oily complexion already so the new formula was a disaster for me. I went back to their website looking for any info I could find of the formula being changed but didn’t find such info. Instead, I learned about the re-formulation from a lot of other reviews on this site as well as other sites. Although it still came in the blue and white tube, I did notice the active ingredient zinc oxide had changed in percentage and is now 18.9% vs the old 18.6%. Also it’s now labeled as spf 35 vs the old spf30 and it’s no longer advertised as water resistant either. Unfortunately I don’t have the older tubes with me anymore to compare what really changed as far as ingredients are concerned.
After further browsing their website I spotted this particular sunscreen which I’m reviewing here. It’s advertised as “New” Burnout Spf30 For Face & Body. I ordered a couple just to try it out. When they arrived a week ago, I immediately tested it out and all I can say is it was a “hallelujah” moment for me because THIS is what the old formula was like, only now it came in a different container (see the pic above).
The similarities to the old formulation are: SPF 30 like the old formula, little to no white cast, dries quickly, very light lotion like consistency unlike the new formula which is thick and pasty. It is NON greasy/oily, dries to a matte finish, powder/makeup easily applies over it (just like a primer) without it pilling like the new formula does. Most importantly the protection is the same as the old one. I live in Hawaii and use this on my face every single day except in water and have never experienced burning or tanning while wearing it and I tan easily.
The differences: It now comes in a 2oz. glass jar (old formula came in a 3oz. tube). Some people may have an issue with this. I just use one of those plastic measuring spoons in the 1/4 size to scoop out the proper amount and then disinfect the spoon after. It’s better than dipping my fingers in there. On my jar it is listed as 18.9% non nano zinc oxide active ingredient whereas the old formula was 18.6%. It’s also a bit more fluid/watery (for lack of better description) but it makes it much easier to apply IMO. Last but not least, this cost me $14.99 vs the original which cost $17.99.
NOTE: on their website, they listed this particular product as 18.6% zinc oxide but my jar says 18.9%. I know it’s not really a big deal since it’s a small discrepancy but it’s a discrepancy nonetheless. Also, I don’t see this one being advertised as “water resistant” anywhere on the jar nor their website.
Conclusion:
For those of you who loved the original Burnout Clean and Clear (blue and white tube) and find the new formulation terrible, I would highly recommend trying this new “Burnout SPF30 For Face & Body first before you start looking for alternatives. In my opinion, it’s the closest you would ever get to the original formula and if you loved the old formula, you would love this. I just hope Burnout Suncare doesn’t change this formula again. At the very least they should inform customers of the re-formulation. Had I known that, I wouldn’t have ordered 3 tubes of the reformulated version only to be disappointed later. Besides, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

This is a new sunscreen from BurnOut. I was on a mission to find a new sunscreen to replace the Clean & Clear also from the brand BurnOut which was unfortunately reformulated this year and is now unwearable.
I wasn’t sure if this new sunscreen would be any good but I’m really happy with it. The texture is very light, easy to rub onto my face, disappears immediately, leaves no white cast, goes well under foundation, is very high in zinc oxide. I’ve been using this for a few weeks and it hasn’t caused me to break out. It seems perfect for my combination skin – non-drying and slightly hydrating (but not too much). I will definately re-order. However, it’s not waterproof, so wouldn’t take this on a beach holiday – it would be good if BurnOut offered a waterproof version of this sunscreen. This is definately a good replacement for the Clean & Clear – just not waterproof and this one has a longer ingredients list.
