Not exactly a review of this sunscreen only: I have the Josie Maran tinted SPF-very moisturizing, perfect for dry skin. However the color was too dark/orange for my fair skin. I saw this Australian gold via Hotnflashy/You Tube, and bought the Untinted version. Inow mix the Australian gold with the Josie Maran 1:1 ratio and it looks so natural and acts–perfectly.

I’ve been really pleased with the tinted facial version of this sunscreen that I wanted the untinted one for my body/chest area. This, like its tinted counterpart, offers great protection in a mineral form and is not greasy, oily or uncomfortable to wear in the heat and humidity so I am really pleased. I guess because I’m using this on my body, though (arms, hands and legs especially), I could actually do with it being a bit more “greasy” and moisturizing for those areas. Still, the fact that this offers great protection and feels nice on the skin even on those heavily humid and sticky days, is a point in its favour. I will continue to purchase both versions of this sunscreen as both are really excellent products.
Edit: Aug. 1/19 – They’re not kidding when they say this stuff is WATERPROOF. I bought this to use on my hands, arms, chest and after stepping out of the shower, I was confused and a bit shocked to see the skin on my arms looking chalky and weird. I realized it was this sunscreen which had not worn away through a day of wear nor had it rinsed away in my morning shower. I slathered my regular body lotion over top but was less than thrilled with this white, pilling residue. I’ve since learned that this needs to be washed off with a body wash or soap in the shower which is an extra step I usually don’t bother with on my limbs but which is well worth it because now I really do know I can trust the longevity of this stuff when it’s on my skin.

This is the first sunscreen I’ve used on my face that I’m happy with, the others being Aveeno Protect + Hydrate SPF 50 and Cerave Moisturizing Lotion – AM (which were both awful for me). It does have a significant white cast at first that lessens as it dries down. However, I am pale and do not mind it so much. This sunscreen is quite mattifying on my skin and does not make me shiny throughout the day. However, it can be a tad drying. I’ve noticed some red spots will get a little flaky around the edges if I’m not adequately moisturized while using this sunscreen. I use Cerave Moisturizing Cream underneath it and find that works very well at keeping me hydrated. I wish that instead of having a detachable screw top it had a secured flip top, and I wish it was a tad bit more moisturizing, but overall, a decent sunscreen for the price. I also feel like the tube will last me a long time. I plan on trying the tinted version soon.

I never used a separate sunscreen because all of them would make my face burn and my makeup slide all over the place. I normally would just use moisturizer or foundation with an SPF. BUT, I did not realize that those products with SPF were not effective. So, I decided to try this after Angie (hot and flashy youtuber) recommended it. I watched her videos and did not realize there is chemical and mineral sunscreen. Chemical sunscreen burn my face, but mineral does not.
I tried more expensive mineral sunscreen (Farmacy Greenscreen). This is a better product. Angie recommended the tinted sunscreen, but I read a few reviews that people said tinted version has a red/orange color. I am more yellow and decided to try this instead. Apply this over moisturizer and before primer. This must be completely absorbed into the skin or dry before you apply primer and foundation. It can take 15 minutes or longer depending on humidity in you area. In a rush, I use a blow dryer on cool setting. This dries down and it not greasy which is great since I am oily.
It has a slight scent, but it is not sunscreen smell, but a pleasant smell that goes away once the sunscreen dries. It is very white and might cause a white cast on some people, but for me it is fine.
For some reason this also minimizes my pores. I am not sure how or why, but when I do not apply this my pores are larger on my cheeks. Nice effect.
PRO: Cost, non greasy, minimizes pores, 50 SPF
CON: Tube is huge and difficult for travel (dispense into smaller container), slight white cast

OMG… amazing sunscreen and now my HG! I will never buy another body sunscreen again! A few years ago I started trying to phase out chemical laden products, particularly chemical based sunscreens (I.e. avobenzone). While I have found a few decent mineral based sunscreens for the face I hadn’t found any great ones for the body. Everything for the body that I tried was too thick, too pasty white, or too ridiculously expensive. Or still contained some form of chemical sunscreen. Therefore for the last few years I have been reluctantly using Palmer’s cocoa butter moisturizing sunscreen and Hawaiian Tropic sheer sunscreens which are laden with chemicals. Not only are these sunscreens not safe, but like most sunscreens you can feel them on the skin and smell them all day, so I have dreaded putting them on. I ran across Australian Gold Botanicals at Ulta and was stoked to see that these sunscreens contain only zinc and titanium, and also include no other unhealthy ingredients like parabens. At 16 bucks a pop these are definitely at a higher price point than most sunscreens but pretty low for mineral based sunscreens which I have seen run 30.00! The very first thing I noted about the sunscreen was the amazing smell. It does not smell like sunscreen in the slightest. It does have a quite noticeable, tropical fruit type scent that I don’t mind – it is unusual for me to not be bothered by the smell of sunscreen because every single sunscreen I’ve ever used smells like, well, sunscreen. Except for this one. The consistency is light and almost whipped, and spreads on very easily. The cool thing is that within seconds, it dries to a powdery finish. There’s nothing heavy, greasy, or FILMY about this sunscreen (I emphasize filmy because I hate products that make you feel like you’re wearing a mask on the skin – some La Roche Posay sunscreens have made me feel this way and ugh!). It absorbs quickly. The only con is that is does leave the skin feeling a bit dry. However, in my very hot climate, having sticky skin doesn’t feel good either. In short this sunscreen has the trifecta – feels nice, smells nice, and is safe – and I am a customer for life!

After seeing the reviews here, I had to try this. The supposedly oil-free facial sunscreens (Neutrogena, Cera Ve, Aveeno, etc.) left me with a greasy shine and didn’t absorb ever. I have somewhat normal leaning dry skin in Winter. The first time I used this, I looked like Casper and somewhat dry since I didn’t moisturize first. After a little practice I have learned the best way to use (for me) is to use a light moisturizer first then follow with this and really rub it in well. I did this today and my skin looked so good (poreless!) that I used a little bronzer, blush and under eye concealer and looked better than I have in a long time.

This is extremely drying, and my skin is not dry at all. I was about to buy an extra moisturizer to make this work when I realized it was breaking my skin out! What a mess.

I like the tinted version of this, but can’t use it close to where clothes will be rubbing against my skin because of the tint, so I thought this would be better for my neck and other areas. I’m pretty sure I’ll be bringing this back to Ulta, because it has one of the worst white casts I’ve ever seen. I don’t know why some people here don’t get a white cast – maybe they just use very little of this (and then aren’t getting the actual SPF). To get the SPF advertised, half a tea spoon of this should be applied to the face, but I only apply about the amount of a pea (which actually isn’t enough to get the advertised SPF. I don’t have dark skin – I’m about NC20 in MAC, which would be categorized as light, and I look PALE with this on – I can VERY clearly see it on my skin. My husband thought I looked ridiculous with this product on. On top of that, I can see it applies streaky, even though I really rubbed it in. It has the same, matte finish as the tinted version, and doesn’t feel greasy (because of aluminium compounds, which I’m fine with), but I can’t deal with the horrible white cast. It’s so bad that I can’t cover it up with makeup, which is a problem.
I tried to use this on my hands instead of my face, in hope that *that* would work better, and I can’t say I enjoyed i. While it was slightly hydrating and the slightly white tint on my hands didn’t bother me at all, I soon discovered bluish-white marks on my black leather handbag. Then on my blue jacket, then on my green pants… to sum up: if you want to use this on your hands, you need to make sure you wipe the underside of them after application, because this leaves white sunscreen marks everywhere.
Generally, there are many good things about this sunscreen: not greasy, ingredients are good and should be tolerated by most people, high SPF, however: after having several different Asian sunscreens, which can be high SPF and 100% invisible, this just isn’t up to my standards. I’m pretty sure the white cast comes from the non-nano particles, as the finer particles the physical sunscreen is, the less visible it is.

My favorite of every facial sunblock I have ever tried, hands-down. I can only use mineral sunblocks on the oily, sensitive skin on my face, neck and chest, and have struggled for years to find a formula that isn’t super greasy or doesn’t leave a white or gray cast on my skin.
This Australian Gold Tinted Botanical Sunscreen leaves my skin matte, doesn’t break me out, and disappears on my fair skin — that would be enough to make it a Holy Grail product, but additionally, the coverage is such that I often do not need to use foundation at all. A little power, and I’m good to go!
As other reviewers have noted, this formula can be drying, but as long as I apply a moisturizer underneath it, I never have a problem with it being too drying. Not even in winter, when my skin can get a little dry under the cold air/forced heat combination.

Update: these are both so hard to remove. It’s like you have to break their seal or something. Even oils or oil cleansers have trouble churning through these. I’ve had to cleanse 3 times after wearing these and I can feel the rubbery sunscreen tenaciously holding on fighting the oil. They therefore leave my face feeling sore from all the cleaning I have to do.
I bought a tube of the tinted and untinted.
The tinted is in a smaller tube and is unscented. It left my face looking a little yellow(I’m NC 20) and did not work well with makeup on top. It was too much coverage together. It is fine on its own but it is drying.
The untinted dries to a matte finish. It is scented like a pina colada. It leaves a slight white cast. It does not work well with makeup at all. Makeup drags over it no matter what liquid or cream I choose. Powder looks cakey. This sunscreen is best by itself. Plus it felt drying.
Both cost around $14.00 and I found them at CVS. Tried them because of Hot and Flashy’s YouTube rec but I’ve found her recs hit or miss.
