This leaves a very noticeable white cast that transfers onto everything from glasses to bags to car seats and doors to furniture. It’s also too thick to apply without rubbing, has a weird smell, and in summary is just as crappy for everyday use as any other American sunscreen. It also gave me a mild breakout, which is weird because usually that only happens with chemical sunscreens. CeraVe cream is one of my HGs but every other product of theirs has been at least a little bit of a disappointment in some way. Lesson learned: stop trying to cheat on my HG to save a few bucks!

This review is for the newest formula… I got this not realizing CeraVe finally listened to their customers and reformulated their water-resistant face & body sunscreens, replacing the prior chemical sunscreens with mineral ones. Don’t get me wrong, that’s great and it’s about time, but I have a love/hate relationship with mineral sunscreens. Yes, they’re excellent, both in their effectiveness and that they don’t cause any of the irritation issues chemical sunscreens do, but they dry my skin out – my skin becomes uncomfortable and after about an hour or so it will feel tight and enhance my fine lines. This doesn’t happen when it’s humid outside, but then I perspire and the minerals separate and come to the surface, and I get a freckle mustache. So my main reason for getting this is because when CeraVe first came out with their sunscreens, I tried the spf 50 face and yey, no freckle mustache, no dry skin, and I did do well with the chemical sunscreens.
This summer I will be spending a great deal of my outdoor time at my parent’s beautiful new pool so I got a tube of the spf 50 body as the formula for the body & face were identical. I did a recent comparison, Ingredients between the spf 50 face and larger sized body are still similar except the face one has niacinamide immediately following the ceramides.
My first impression on the newest formula of the spf 50 body is that despite the additional beneficials CeraVe includes, I am experiencing the same drying effects I get with any mineral sunscreen. The only good thing I can say at this time is it isn’t as whitening as some mineral sunscreens are. I am trying to stay optimistic, I feel CeraVe is an excellent brand because they offer products with multiple beneficial ingredients that don’t cost a small fortune, but I think for only 3 ounces the $16.99 I paid was a bit expensive. I’m going to keep it as in the pool I won’t be perspiring, but for an everyday sunscreen this absolutely won’t work for me.

This sunscreen is the only one that I can use without developing big lumps on my face. I know it sounds horrible, and it is! I have tried Aveeno Natural Protection SPF 50, Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby SPF 60, and even very expensive product samples from by dermatologist. I haven’t figured out what the offensive ingredient is, but CeraVe SPF 50 doesn’t have it. I would be devastated if they changed or discontinued it. I use it every single day, and apply it over freshly dampened skin. My grown daughter has the exact same problem, but it took us several years to find the common denominator.

Bought the 3 oz tube to use on my chest, arms, backs of hands (the 30 spf version for my face) and had the same opinion of both products: on my mature, parched, alligator skin, the product leave a whitish cast that doesn’t go away, it’s thick, sticky and pasty to apply, and I feel like I use a lot of product per square inch. I think it’s useful when you are say, at the beach, you’ve been in the water and you’re first application has washed off, and you want something with staying power. Otherwise, move along.

I’m a sunscreen junkie who looks for both UVA and UVB protection in a hypoallergenic product that doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I felt lukewarm about this product. Pros: High percentages of titanium dioxide and zinc (both UVA blockers); seems to do its job; non-irritating; non-greasy. Cons: Hard to spread and leaves a distinct white cast. Not terrible, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

I was really wanting to like this sunscreen but found it really hard to spread and it just left a white pasty film on my skin. I live in Arizona so I need a good sunscreen that protects. However, I do love the Cerave moisturizing cream-just wished the sunscreen worked as well as the cream.

On my dehydrated-normal skin, I found this easy enough to spread on dry skin. It did feel somewhat like a regular lotion, albeit not an emollient one. It was also lightweight as advertised.
However, it was nothing near the “invisible zinc” advertised, and after waiting several hours for the “clear finish” promised I now looked like I tried to rub white powder all over my body. I was really expecting more from CeraVe, but unfortunately their sunscreen offerings (I also tried their SPF 50 face sunscreen which imparts a similar white cast) are misleading and not at all good on dehydrated skin.
It’s worth mentioning that the CeraVe SPF 50 face sunscreen is nearly identical in ingredients to this body version except it includes niacinamide. I’ve used both and can’t tell a difference between them. If you’ve tried the face version, then you know what to expect with this one.
Overall, for anyone interested in this sunscreen due to the “Invisible Zinc” claim, look someplace else because this is one of the worst white casts I’ve ever seen and I’m not a stranger to all-physical sunscreens.

Yes, this is thick to spread but I apply to damp skin so it is much easier to apply than on dry skin. This is an amazing sunscreen. I like the high spf from the minerals and not chemicals, and that it contains ceramides, vitamins a and b5. It dries clear and is water resistant. I actually use this everyday on my face and body.

Nope. This is really hard to spread. For a physical sunblock, Neutrogena Baby is better and cheaper! IMO.
cerave needs to step up their sunblocks.

This review is also about the SPF 50 version for the body. I’ve only had it for a couple of days and am already very impressed with it! I have a lot of age spots, especially on my hands and arms. When I put this product on, the age spots get a white cast from the zinc and it makes them visually disappear, an unexpected positive side effect. Apart from the spots, this sunscreen absorbs completely and immediately. Yes, it’s more expensive than what I’ve been using until now, but it’s definitely worth $17 (and more). I don’t think I’ll ever buy any other sunscreen again! For an older woman in Arizona’s constant sunshine, this is a fantastic product! I love it and I don’t say that about many things.
