I bought this after changing my hairstyle last year, as I wanted to try and recreate at home the volume my hairdresser had managed to create in the salon. I asked her what drugstore products she recommended and VO5 was the one she mentioned as being ‘pretty good’ for at-home use.
In the UK this is called ‘Plump It Up Amplifying Blow Dry Lotion’ and is designed to give volume and thickness with natural bounce whilst also acting as a heat defence spray. The instructions state to apply this to damp hair before blow drying, concentrating on the roots where you want more volume. It has a very strong scent to it – almost musky I thought – and that does last all day, so be aware that if you’re not a fan of strongly scented hair products, this probably isn’t going to be for you.
I followed the instructions precisely and once I’d finished I did notice my hair seemed to have more ‘oomph’ than before, especially at the roots. I also set it with hairspray to try and keep the style for as long as I could. Unfortunately, after about 4 hours I noticed my hair was starting to go flat and no amount of plumping it up with my fingers seemed to help.
I think this is a great product if you’re going out for the evening and only need/want your hairstyle to last for a few hours. Beyond that though I don’t think this would work and it definitely wouldn’t last all day. Also, as it’s a wet product as opposed to a dry spray (like hairspray) I don’t think you would be able to reapply during the day as it would just make your hair damp/wet!
This cost me about £3.00 from Superdrug, so it’s not going to break the bank and is definitely cheaper than the product my hairdresser used which was closer to four times that amount for a very small bottle. However, if you’re looking for a product that’s going to last all day, I definitely don’t think it’s worth investing in this as it won’t do the job.

Protects my hair from heat but doesn’t give that much volume but does smell so good!

Problem: lank, fine, long hair.
Solution: Alberto V05 plump it up volumising spritz.
This, sprayed onto the roots of my fine baby blonde hair, makes it amazingly full, plumped up indeed. Having long hair, after washing it, I bung it up into a ponytail after having sprayed this onto my roots. Once dry, I let my hair down and it has height and volume and without this spray my hair looks Addams family’s lank and flat.
There are no cons from using this that’s I’ve experienced, no crunchiness, no stiffness, my hair brushes out without snags and pulling with this on the roots. It has a pleasant scent too. My hair looks very shiny and very full and swishy, great product, I buy it in bulk.
