Using Oribe products really is a transformative experience, like you’re a homely caterpillar at the beginning and you’re a super hot butterfly at the end. I was afraid at first because this is called a styling creme, and I have baby fine, weirdly wavy hair. But this stuff is gorgeously scented magic. More on the scent in a moment. At night, I put a small squirt, a quarter inch or so, in my hands and rub them together, and then I rake the sweet, creamy goodness through my clean, damp hair. I can’t do a proper blow out yet, so I just do a flip over and blow dry, turn right side up and dry some more kind of thing. This magic concoction makes my frizzy weirdo waves pretty darn smooth, and my hair feels super soft. In fact, for my fine hair, it’s too soft and slippery, so the next morning, I scrunch a little Oribe Surfcomber Mousse in my dry hair to give it a little grip and grit, and then I spritz it with water and air dry my waves. But you aren’t here to read about my hair styling routine. You’re here to read about Oribe’s scent, yes? I mean really, why else do ladies pay like $40-50 for a hair product? Because this stuff smells like we soak in bathtubs filled with Dom Perignon and exotic tropical flowers, like our bust lines and buttocks will be perpetually perky, and like tan young men in tiny bathing suits bring us fruity cocktails while we get pedicures. Oribe products smell like you are rich and fabulous, even if you are just okay. Oribe should make a perfume, right? Well they did, it is called Cote d’Azur, and it is dreadful. I reviewed it so you don’t have to suffer as I did. But let’s end on a happy note, shall we? Imperial Blowout is worthy of all of us Queen Amidalas. The packaging is sleek and modern, the smell is the pure sweat of angels, and the product really performs well. Your hair will be soft, smooth, and shiny. Oribe obsessed for life!
AN UPDATE: I did a terribly foolish thing. I gave away my bottle to a friend during my “let my weird wavy hair freak flag fly” phase. Now I want to wear my hair smooth and straight-ish. I want my bottle back. I am filled with sadness and regret. I have to spend another $50-60 on a new bottle. Please learn from me, Makeup Alley folks. Keep your products.
