Along with the got2b Glued spiking wax, I like this product to make my fine and silky hair nice and “dirty” (without actually *feeling* dirty on your head) for the “alternative” styles I like to do. I find this works best when you spray it on and mess your hair up while the product is still wet on your hair, before it dries and sets.
For some background information, I’ll paste in the paragraph I wrote for the glue:
I used to be a hardcore goth, and I used to do my hair in the style of Edward Scissorhands, Robert Smith, Birthday Party era Nick Cave, Marla Singer, Siouxsie, etcetera — huge and ratted up beyond the restrictions of gravity. Goths and punks have been using a special method to keep their hair in this state all day (or even several days) since the beginning of these movements — I know because older goths who were there in the late 70s and 80s have told me they used to do the same thing: Before teasing the hair, the trick is to pour either a can of coke or some orange juice over the head, for the sugar and acid content, with a hearty spray of Aquanet to top it off when you’re finished styling it. The sugar from the coke or juice gave the perfect texture to fine hair to aid in the backcombing process, and the stickiness helped everything keep hold all day so everything wouldn’t fall flat while you’re bouncing around to Bauhaus. Goths are quite bouncy people, actually. 😉
I don’t often go that “all out” anymore, but I find this to be a good everyday spray for a more wearable “I have great taste in music” look! 🙂

This stuff does, in fact, give hold and texture. In fact I loved the grip it gives to my slippery, fine, wavy hair. Really makes the waves pop and the hold seems to last. If you don’t use too much, you’ll get good volume and texture to the hair that looks great. Unfortuanetly, there are 2 deal-breakers for me that aren’t worth the great results. ONE: IT STINKS. The smell is strong, chemically, and horrible. I can’t stand it. Seriously, I can’t even describe it other than very fake perfume and toxic chemicals. TWO: After using this for a couple of days, I noticed my hair was horribly tangled. Like, tangles Ithat WON’T COME OUT. This is coming from someone whose hair is so NOT tangly that I don’t even have to comb my hair once I’m out of the shower.
So sad. I may have kept using it and put up with the tangles, if not for the godawful smell. I haven’t tried the more expensive texturizing sprays yet, like Oribe. But one of those will likely be my next purchase.

Dottielsj wrote a great review of this product but I’ll write one as well as there are so few reviews. I really like this combo hairspray, dry shampoo AND texturizer. Perfect for the following hair styles – 1. Updo: provide solid grip to hold your hair up [imp’t for me as I have silky, read slippery Asian hair that will never stay up easily even w/a butterfly clip w/out some product.
2. Beachy, loose style: outdoes all the surf and other hair texurizers as this combines two products in one – the hairspray and texturizer
I’ve used spray texturizers in the past and they have made my hair feel far too waxy and unpleasant and sometimes even weighed my hair down or made it look greasy. Not so with this. It has just enough of the texturizer to hold but not overwhelm your hair.
Better than most dry shampoos if you’re going for a beachy, undone look. Also, it’s so nice spraying it on quick and easy.
There are two uses that I do NOT think this spray is good for me:
-anyone looking for slick, smooth hair – go for your hair smoothers for that purpose. This one wants to give you grip, texture and bounce.
-anyone just looking for a plain hairspray – this one is going to feel too greasy
I do like the Got2b line. I find I’ve been very pleased by their treatment products. I do not buy Got2b because it’s less expensive – I buy the hair treatments because it really is one of the best products out there that will hopefully stop being eclipsed by other brands as it really is so stellar.

If you’re looking for a texturizing hairspray that’s reasonably priced then this is your product! It’s for “messy styles with touchable texture, natural finish and flexible hold.” It’s supposed to create “artfully undone styles that last.” I used this on my tousled, beachy waves style and I found that it has great hold, even with the Florida humidity. My favorite hairspray at the moment is Got2b Mind Blowing hairspray, which has a very touchable invisible finish but has strong hold that stands up to whatever the Florida weather dishes out. No one knows I’m wearing hairspray and when the wind blows, my hair moves but it springs right back into place. I use MB over all of the other more expensive hairsprays in my arsenal and have purchased it many times at an average price of a whopping $6. But this Mess-Merizing product is totally different and although it has its place in my routine, it doesn’t give me that swingy invisible look that the MB formula does. However, if you’re used to using a separate texturizing spray and then piling a flexible hold hairspray on top, you don’t have to do that with this Mess-Merizing spray. It gives grip and grit but also has a nice amount of hold. It isn’t stiff or sticky but it does have a matte finish, which I’m not sure I like. That said, I do have several texture sprays and one of the problems I have with them is that they often make my hair look like a rat’s nest. If you spray this Mess-Merizing spray lightly, it doesn’t do that but it will still add enough texture to give you that bedhead look that’s so on trend right now. I suppose you could also spray it at the roots for volume too. But it does have hold built in so however you spray it, count on your style staying in place through thick and thin but without stiffness and it won’t look or feel like a helmet. This spray definitely won’t give you pageant hair, lol! It also smells decent, which is saying a lot because most hairsprays have a chemical fragrance but this scent of this one is OK and in any case, the fragrance doesn’t linger. The fact that this product is drugstore priced is surely a bonus and I can say without reservation that it performs on par with several of the pricier texturizing sprays I own. I’m a huge Got2b fan and several of their products are HGs for me including the Freeze hairspray, the Glossy Shine Serum (which is also an excellent heat protectant), the Kinkier Gel and Mousse, the Mind Blowing Styling Spray and the Guardian Angel heat spray, all of which work as well as high end brands imo. So whenever a new Got2b product comes out, I have to try it as a matter of course. I also purchased the Mess-Merizing Sculpting Spritz (which I have also reviewed). If you want a great texturizing hairspray I definitely suggest you give this one a try. You can spray as much or as little as you like. It’s a very versatile product. I happen to like a lighter amount of hold and texture but with this spray you can go as messy as you want. It has touchable hold but if it’s strong enough to hold my impossible to hold hair when the humidity climbs here in Florida, it will work anywhere. Unfortunately, I think Got2b products are quite underrated. As a HB member, I know that few people recommend these drugstore gems other than me. Also unfortunate is that few stores carry the whole line. Amazon has a decent selection but of course you’ll pay more than drugstore prices. I can often find the newest items in my local grocery store and of course Ulta carries Got2b, which is where I found the Mess-Merizing products, but I had to order them online, but at $7 apiece, they’re definitely worth a few dollars in shipping, especially if you use the $3.50 monthly coupon. So far I’m impressed with these newest additions to the Got2b line. I’m a product junkie and it takes a lot to impress me, especially with drugstore products because I’m normally a high end buyer (too many drugstore disappointments I’m afraid). But Got2b is one of my go-to drugstore brands and the last items they released, the Mind Blowing collection, turned out to be particularly awesome for me. Hopefully, it’ll be around for a while b/c I’ve become addicted to the hairspray and would be very said indeed if it was discontinued. I won’t use the Mess-Merizing spray nearly as often but when I do, I will smile because I’ve found a great texturizing hairspray for a big time $7. A bargain always makes me grin, lol!
