I liked this gel but not as much as I liked the styling cream. True to the label, it’s very light but isn’t ideal for taming flyaways or moisturizing.

I have been using this product for 10+ years so obviously I like it. With curly hair, I can definitely see how some products would work for some and not others. My hair is pretty thin so I need something light, but I do have curls (2b/c). I don’t like the wet-look or something very defined. For me to get more volume, it can’t be too defined or crunchy. This gives me just the right amount of hold that my hair just looks beautifully curly and natural. The only time this product doesn’t hold up to snuff is in weather like you have in Miami. With such a high humidity/dew point, I did need to either live with the frizz or use something with a stronger hold. I’ve also recently been incorporating their hair spray into my routine to help hold the curls and volume more. I think it’s fair to need to add some hair spray on top to get the right look. I don’t always use hair spray but it’s especially useful on day 3+.

This is my HG for my soft chin-length curly hair. I found that it’s very important to follow the directions even if they seem counter-intuitive. I use it on SOAKING WET hair, about nickel size, and scrunch it in then wrap with my microfiber turban while I do my face. Then I take off the turban, turn my head upside down and shake the hair, and arrange it minimally once I’m right-side up; and then I don’t touch it. I tousle it gently when it’s dry and I get ringlets. It is a soft curl and that’s what I want. My hair is not frizzy at all so perhaps that’s why it works for me? It’s not cheap, hence the lippie off for price, but I never want to run out of this stuff.

Went to a new hairdresser today and she gave me a really cut for my wavy thick hair and then put this in my hair and out the door I went.. OMG! This stuff is awesome to bring out my curls/waves! Was shocked at price but it’s worth every penny!

Yes!!! This gel is awesome! I used on right out of shower hair…. sopping wet! I quickly combed my hair and added a decent amount…. scrunched…and wore my turbi twist for a few minutes. Removed, added a little more gel… scrunched…then hands off!!! Used my diffuser until dry….ummmmm awesome curls/waves! Went to bed…woke up and scrunched upWard per directions to uncast any hardness… didn’t have much. But, yes, it’s true…curls are super soft, very nice soft hold. Healthy fluffy looking, shiney hair! I’m very impressed!!! No frizzies at all! Love love love!!

What a horrible product. I put it in my freshly washed hair last night, put it in a ponytail and went to bed, like I always do. When I went to do my hair this morning, there is not only no curl, it’s…well…FUZZY. It feels dirty and looks damaged and it’s not (well, it’s marginally damaged, but it looks fried.) Now I have to wash it again tonight and I really don’t like washing my hair more than twice a week. Avoid this crappy product at all costs.

Not too crunchy I love this gel. I use all deva. I think when you do something you go all the way so I bought like 12 deva products (no poo, low poo, 1condition, 2 Gels, 2 curl creams, b’leavin, & new to try on order: mousse, whip, hairspray & spray gel)

I love a lot of things DevaCurl, but this product doesn’t have much going for it. It loses a lippie for price. It’s expensive for gel- around $25 for the 12 oz size, CAD- though the 32oz size is a better deal and has a convenient pump-top. It has very minimal hold, and doesn’t give great definition to my fine, 3A/B ringlets. It has to be layered over other products to get any hold (e.g. DC styling cream, B’leave-in), and even then, my hair will fall and frizz- deducting another lippie. Air dry vs. diffusing doesn’t make a difference. It doesn’t set with a cast, so at least it doesn’t get crunchy, but to say it has even light hold is a stretch-minus one more lippie. Overall, skip it, would not repurchase or recommend.

Always looking for a curl definer that holds the curl but that is not stiff or drying to the hair after the hair is completely dry. Curly hair already has a tendency to have dry ends, so a product that dries down with a soft finish is the Holy Grail.
This is not that product. Finish was extremely drying to the hair, almost dusty.
Not desirable on curly, sometimes frizzy hair.
Disappointing.

I tried this brand with a 3 part set…the shampoo, conditioner and this gel…the gel was my least favorite part. It made my hair feel gross, frizzy and didn’t define. I will say my hair is not curly enough to be considered curly but not straight enough to be straight….so maybe this wasn’t for me???
