Firstly, a description of my hair ATM: Balayage, my light brown roots are pretty much virgin hair and are naturally smooth and shiny. The blonde is basically years of blonde foils and is super frizzy if un-styled. I have fine hair and I wash and blow dry it every morning because if I don’t it goes super limp and greasy. I don’t use hairspray or mousse because it ways my hair down. My hair is very soft to the touch but does have quite a few flyaways.
THAT SAID; I tried V05 heat protect styling spray for the first time this morning. The 200ml bottle cost me $ 7.00 at my local supermarket. I sprayed it from the ears down on towel dried hair and then blow dried and straightened as usual. The product is highly perfumed but I enjoy the smell. My hair was noticeably easier to brow dry and it doesn’t feel sticky at all or weigh my hair down. This product has absolutely no “hold” as such. My hair feels smooth and soft.
In closing, I can’t tell weather it’s protecting my hair or not. In truth, the best protection for hair is to avoid heat styling at all costs but that’s not a path I want to travel. I’m pleased with it so far and would re-purchase.

Because we all use a blow dryer or straightening iron or curling iron. It is almost impossible to avoid them. Who has time to wait 4-5 hours to air dry their hair? Not me…My whole routine after the shower takes me 1-2 hours. Blow dry with a round brush… 40 min. If I want to wear it down, it gets straightened…. 1 hour at least…
It’s like an arm workout. No joke! So a heat protection product is a must for me and it’s an easy way to get extra protein and hydrating ingredients in the hair. I got mine at 25p…score.. because the pump was broken. No big deal. I just put it in another spray bottle and it works just fine.
The only thing I don’t like about it is the smell. Not the actual smell, but how strong it is. Hold your breath when you use it or you will choke. And it stays in the hair, which might be a good thing; your hair will smell nice…and you will smell nice, but you can’t use perfume with it or they will clash. It says it can protect hair for up to 230 degrees, which is exactly what I use on my straightening iron. Now does it actually protect? How can you tell? I can never tell. But I will always use some protection from heat, just in case it does. I spray twice in each section and then wait about 10 minutes for my hair to absorb it. Then blow dry. After that, spray once in each section, let it dry, and go in with the iron.
Overall, I do like it, but the smell is too much for me. So after I am finished with it, I will look for a new one.

I do love the size of this hairspray but when’re used in an average ventilated room, people complain that it smells like bug spray. Hold isn’t great but definitely smooth flyaways. I use it whenever I’m about to use my curling products.

I’ve tried a number of heat protection sprays over the years, with differing results. Some didn’t seem to work at all, whilst others kind of worked but left my hair feeling lank or sticky. So, still on the hunt for one I like and which suits my hair, I thought I would give this one a try.
I’m disappointed to report that I wasn’t overly keen on this. It did the job it was designed to do (i.e. protected my hair from heat damage), but as with other sprays I’ve tried, it left my hair feeling really lank and weighed down with product. To make sure it wasn’t just me being heavy handed with my spraying technique, I tried various different ways of using it – on damp hair before blow-drying, on dry hair before straightening, just on the ends of damp hair and just on the ends of dry hair – but all had the same outcome. I also found after a while that the pump spray stopped working properly, so I had to ‘steal’ one from another bottle I had which was similar in style and use that instead.
This is also states on the bottle that it has a ‘fabulous new fragrance’ – each to their own, but I wouldn’t call it fabulous. In fact I’d call it overpowering and a bit cloying. It’s VERY strong and it lasts all day. Even after spraying my perfume (quite liberally I might add) I could still smell it and after a day at work I was glad to wash my hair just to get rid of it.
Based on my experiences of this, I don’t think I would be in a hurry to purchase it again. I’ve since tried another one – the L’Oreal Studio Silk & Gloss Hot Straight Spray – which seems to work better on my hair and doesn’t have such an overpowering smell, so I think for now I’ll be sticking with that.

I always use this when using hot appliances on my hair. Not only does it protect my hair from heat, it also makes it super shiny and holds the effect perfectly.

My HG heat protectant! I have tried ones from Aussies, Tresseme, Punkyfish, L’Oreal…I even tried the older heat protectant from V05 which came in the red bottle, and did not like ANY of those. However, they recently came out with this new heat protectant which comes in a pink bottle and boats a ‘fabulous new fragrance’. I do like the fragrance more than the original, but it does have a slight mens cologne hint about it…might just be my sensitive nose though! Comes in a spray bottle which has a lock feature (just press the button and it either locks or unlocks which makes it good for travelling), is under £4 so pretty affordable, claims to protect hair from styling tools up to 230 degrees celcius. It leaves my hair extremely soft and shiny, and eliminates any frizzies or flyaways. Doesn’t feel sticky like the Tresseme one, or make my hair feel like it’s coated in product. Seems to do a good job of minimizing damage from my straightener such as split ends and dryness. Definately will be repurchasing!
