As I understand it, the success of this product depends on whether or not your hair can handle a ton of glycerin. Because I think that’s mainly what this product is? My hair seem to be doing fine with it, anyway. I “prime” with a more moisturizing leave in product (right now I’m using Shea Moisture’s Curl & Shine Milk) mainly to offset the potential drying effect of this product that some people talked about.
I think I excepted it to be more of a curl enhancer than it was. I really want to find a silicone free curl cream to combine this with, since it didn’t do as much to hold/enhance my curls as I thought. But it does provide phenomenal frizz defence, though! Where I live the humidity is relatively high and it rains quite often, so I’m used to my curls staying well-defined and sleek for about 0.3 seconds after I leave the house. With a pretty generous amount of this product in my hair, my hair handles the humidity surprisingly well. I’m no longer as bothered about the weather messing up my hair, which is a nice change.
The (paraphrasing here) “wet the hair and your curls will be as good as new” claim is pretty much BS though. Unfortunately. Once my curls have fallen apart, only a complete wash and reapplication of styling products can save it. I still think I will repurchase it, though, solely because of the frizz defence.
+ Cruelty free (supposedly – I hope this is true!)
+ Excellent frizz defence
+ Haven’t really noticed my hair being any drier since I’ve started using it (but then again my hair is always dry so it’s hard to tell)
– If I’m being totally honest: the whole brand feels a bit… scammy? Can’t put my finger on why, but take a look at the website and you might see what I mean
– A bit up there in price, at least in Sweden, where it’s pretty hard to come by

It’s a crying shame the return policy is so horrible! I LOVE the original curl keeper, but ive recently ordered more of the products offered to try and was not impressed at ALL with the conditioner or the slip. I found out the shipping cost to return the unwanted products was going to cost almost the full price of the purchased items, (meaning there was not going to be much a return at all). For that reason I won’t be trying any other products through this company…..

I always leave this brand because the application process – application, section, comb, scrunch, diffusing – is time consuming but I usually come back to it because it keeps the frizz under control. I don’t the way it seems to build up and dry out my hair a bit.

I got a good sized sample with my CurlMart order. It is a glycerin based liquidy gel that you apply to wet hair. First of all, this does a good job of controlling frizz and adding softness, but curl formation was very loose and undefined in some areas. I’m assuming this will not work in certain dew points. My hair is finicky with glycerin based products as it makes my hair flyaway. I have to use a lot of this to feel like I have some hold. I will probably combine it with another styler to see how well it pairs with it. Overall I am not too impressed with it to buy a bigger bottle. I have other gels that do a better job of enhancing my curls. It is not a bad product, just not for me.

Background – Shoulder length, layered, color treated, very fine, wavy/curly Caucasian hair. (2c/3a) Daily washer.)
After years of blow drying my wavy/curly hair straight, I decided to stop and embrace my natural texture and went Curly Girl.
For a couple of months now, I have tried a few different products to help enhance my curl pattern but not weigh down my hair. I knew my hair liked glycerin so when a few different curl enhancers didn’t work, I tried this. I am so glad I did because this stuff is terrific.
I use this in the shower, after I shut the water off I scrunch a couple of quarter size pours into my hair until it seems all absorbed. I follow up with a gel, put my hair up in a microfiber turbie twist style towel. Once I am ready to deal with my hair (about 10-15 min later) I use the Deva gloves to scrunch the rest of the water out of my hair and air dry.
The Curl keeper doesn’t seem to build up or weigh down my fine hair at all. When my hair is dry, I get a much more defined curl and just a great outcome. My hair doesn’t feel like it has anything it in like butters and oils will. Love it.
The only bad thing about this is that you can only buy it online. I have heard that water type personal lubricant has very similar ingredients if you need something readily available or run out.

I was rather disappointed in this product and couldn’t get it to work for me. I am thinking my hair is just not a fan of that much glycerin. This did not reduce frizz any more or any less than the gels I typically use… but it made my hair too soft and a bit limp and didn’t provide enough hold for me. Even when used with a gel over top, this product seemed to partially negate the holding effects of the gel. Weird. I know a lot of people love this stuff, but it did not work for my 2b/2c hair- even after trying it a few different ways with different amounts. Plus it is a bit pricey and hard to get (online only in the US). I think LA Looks hair gel works better and it less than $2 for a HUGE container. Not worth it for me (and I had high hopes). 🙁

Edit and Update 9/14/2913:
The glycerin in this just wasn’t controlling the frizz for me, and oddly the product started to dry my hair out. I stopped using this and started using the Bio-Herbal Sculpting Gel by Batia and Aleeza.

This works for my hair when I apply about a quarter size amount on sopping wet hair, and then apply the Curly Hair Solutions gel over it. I also use the Slip Detangler spray before I apply Curl Keeper. I want to try the Silk Leave In Conditioner by this brand, also.
I let my hair completely air dry or use a diffuser for about 5 minutes. I then scrunch out any crunch when it’s dry.
I get second and third day hair with this by just spritzing some water on my hair and doing a little scrunching and reshaping the curls.
I tried this product twice before and hated it. I have to apply it to sopping wet hair, and I also have to apply the gel over it. I haven’t tried it with a less expensive gel because I get such great curls from the Curly Hair Solutions gel.
As for frizz, I still get a bit of halo frizz, but it doesn’t look like the frizz that I get when I try to straighten my hair.
I get great curl formation from this product, and second and third day hair. I could probably just wash and style my hair once a week with this, using a spray bottle to spritz water on it because water does reactivate the product.

Thanks to this product, I finally can accept and love my curly hair! I am a 3B curly girl and when I use CurlKeeper, I receive so many compliments on my hair. It keeps me frizz-free especially in this unpredictable Chicago weather. Summer or Winter, I can achieve beautifully defined curls. along with my Leave-in and gel! I am so satisfied with this product!

I have tried many, many frizz reducing serums over the years for my thick curly hair, but this is the only one that works consistently. Whether i’s humid or dry, Curl Keeper really does reduce frizz for me. The key is to comb it through your hair when applying it. It is a bit pricey, but you can buy the huge 33 oz bottle on Amazon and save a ton.

I AM SO AMAZINGLY THRILLED WITH THIS PRODUCT!
My hairdresser (whom I’ve mentioned before in my previous posts…she’s fabulous) recommended this product to mom, sister, and myself. We all have very thick wavy hair. My mother’s hair is super gorgeous….but SUPER WILD.
This product works wonders. It tames the curls (keeping the curl, but getting rid of the frizz) and it does not weigh my (our) hair down what-so-ever! Most other creams/mousses/oils weigh down hair so much. I’ve found that this product does the exact opposite…It is very lightweight.
The product is colourless with a slight scent (pleasant) and goes A LONG WAY! I used less than size of a quarter (coin) on my wet hair and then go to bed. Voila! I wake up with beautiful locks.
This product is pretty reasonably priced. It is salon quality. You can only get it at beauty supply stores or at salons. It is about $30-$35 CDN for a 1L bottle…Which (between the three of us) has lasted a super long time!
A really cool feature about this product is that it can be “reactivated” by simply dampening your hair. Unlike other hair products…It doesn’t end up sticky and gooey (even on your hands, which leaves them feeling greasy and gross).
