Oh man this stuff is like liquid concrete. I used to be a hairstylist working in Aveda salons, spas and the stores. This is some heavy duty hair gel.
It gives maximum hold, some shine and keeps hair in place. Its not joke. I find it too heavy for most hair types or hair styles.

Every time my salon uses this on my wavy hair it intensifies the curl and for some reason it lasts much longer. My hair is quite thick and heavy, so the wave can get pulled out if left on it’s own. I don’t have as good luck when I try to use this myself but the professionals sure can get it to perform well. Smell is pleasant enough, but I personally don’t like the feel of this, it’s kind of sticky and if you don’t use it properly will leave your hair CRUNCHY. I like the results my hairdresser gets but I wouldn’t buy it for home use, I just can’t seem to get it to work right for me by myself.

For years, I used Rene Furterer Straightening Gel on my very fine curly hair. I can’t confirm, bc I tossed the previous tube, but I am pretty sure they altered the ingredients. Slightly different scent and works much less well for me than the previous tube 🙁 Definitely no longer worth $26 for 5.7 oz (!!!!!) to me. I looked for quite some time for a replacement for it, and Confixor is one of the things I tried out as its potential successor.
It’s a pretty solid product, especially at 8.5 oz for $19. That bottle would last me literally a year bc my fine hair needs so little of it per use. It works almost as well as the orig RFSG. Just a teeny dab on wet hair is enough to keep my hair from being a spazzy fuzzy mess, and if you comb after it dries completely isn’t sticky, tangly or crunchy. Not *quite* as soft as I was hoping for, but not bad at all. It was so-so in terms of next day revival – I shamp only 2x/week, but re-dampen and put a *teeny* bit more product at the hairline area where it’s been rinsed off while I bathe. OG RFSG was definitely superior in this regard – my hair felt dirtier faster with Confixor, and looked a bit less good on every subsequent day after shampoo day.
What really negated this option, though, is the smell. I cannot fathom how people like the scent of this stuff! It’s a heavy, funky, earthy herbal smell and to me the strongest note is licorice root. Gag. It smells *STRONGLY* like a dusty, musty, hippie herb shop or those apothecary shops in Chinatown that sell dried licorice root for medicinal purposes. Definitely not what I want next to my nose all day long. While it’s a smell I associate with near-future delicious steamed dumplings & oyster sauce gai lan (yay), it’s not a smell I associate with spa-y hair goodness.
If you like a strong herbal/funky/licorice root smell, check it out. But if you don’t, Biolage Gelee Firm Hold Gel might be the product you’re looking for. I’ve been loving the Biolage Matrix S&C lately so I thought I’d give it a shot – it’s my new HG. I just hope the makers refrain from tinkering with the formula, so I can continue to buy it forever! It works like a dream for me on days between shampooing, at least as welll as OG RFSG, maybe even better. And it smells very pleasant without being cloying or overpowering. At $15.40 for 16.9 oz it’s a phenomenal steal, especially compared to what I was shelling out for RFSG.

Being a self proclaimed product junkie, it’s been an obsession to try every new thing out there, then try it again with combo’s and cocktails, trying to get just the right mix of smooth, soft, smell good, look good, touchable, shiny hair that holds it style with some body and umpffh for days. I had a tough wish list, and endless products to show my commitment, and yet I return time and time again to this product. I have medium density but fine strands, wavy/curly, processed, with dry tangly ends, and a tendency to frizz, esp with hot, humid weather, hair. For *A* product to correct these conditions is pretty miraculous. Don’t know why I buy anything else…..like I said it’s an addiction, but one that doesn’t make much sense since I’ve already found the holy grail of hair care products…THIS ONE!. Plus, the SMELL…..OMG, if this was a cologne I would have a spray fetish with it. I get compliments on my hair again and the smell. Of course I’ve just started using the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi intensive tx 2 step system, which I definitely believe is working and improving my hair’s condition. I might be tempted to try the rest of that line, if I continue to see improvement with the shampoo, and intensive treatments I’ve just recently started.

I have very fine textured hair and this stuff makes it feel thicker and less limp. It’s a great value… It’s a huge bottle that will last forever because I don’t use more than a nickel sized drop a day! I love the refreshing smell too!

I would use this gel for the scent alone. Hard to describe, but it’s probably my favorite scent of all time.
As for performance, it works great for my wavy hair. Sometimes I mix a tiny bit in with the Be Curly, and sometimes I use it alone. It’s not a strong hold, which is fine for me, and a little goes a long way. Leaves my curls nicely defined, shiny, and soft–not sticky or tacky at all.
If anyone knows of a scent similar to this, please, oh, please let me know. I’d wear it as a perfume if I could.

Ideal for my newly cropped hair. Works best (for me) the shorter my hair is; just below the ears is the limit for length. Don’t need a lot and the scent is wonderful. Opening can clog, just takes hot water.

I have fine but dense wavy hair that has a tendency to frizz when I airdry. I tried this product last year and have been using it since. It’s a very liquid gel, similar to Paul Mitchell Super Sculpt. It brings out the wave in my hair and gives me a beachy look without crunch. I apply a generous amount while my hair is wet and then “pineapple” in a towel while I’m putting my makeup on. When I take the towel off, I scrunch in some more Confixor and let it finish air drying. It controls most of my frizz and makes my hair very shiny. Love it!! It smells wonderful too! It’s $18 for 8.5 fl. oz. but a bottle lasts at least a couple of months.

OK, I’ve had a bottle of this for a few years now and I just can’t get past the fragrance so it doesn’t get used as much as it could. With that said, it works well on my short, fine, thick wavy hair to hold particularly in the summer months. I typically mix it with a foam/mousse to provide some additional volume on an “as needed” basis. I am going to try their Flax Aloe gel next and see how that compares. Wait – after I said that I checked MUA reviews and that didn’t get great reviews. So I’ll need to reconsider prior to repurchasing the Confixor.

There are two Aveda hair products that I think are very good. One is the color protectant shampoo they carry and the other is this light weight styling lotion. All Aveda products smell wonderful and tend to be on the pricey side but this product is perfect for me when I need some hold and am straightening my curly hair. It does not serve as a strong hold product but as a gentle hold liquid. Worth the money and last awhile.
