My word, I wish I had found this product sooner. I used to have the saddest, weirdest, frizziest waves, kind of 2A dried hay. Over highlighted and blow dried daily. Thankfully, I read a lot of beauty blogs, and I learned some new techniques. The Curly Girl Method has helped me so much. It took trial and error and practice, but I found that my poor hair needed a lot more moisture. Like most converts to the Curly Girl Method, I started with DevaCurl. After much product sampling, mostly Shea Moisture and Raw Curls, I happened upon Boucleme. Boucleme has a short ingredient list, no ‘cones and no synthetics like polyquats. I use their shampoo and conditioner. Then I use the Smasters method, which is awesome for fine hair like mine. I put a dime size glob in my soaking wet hair, upside down. I don’t rake since that ruins the curl clumps; I smooth the gel over the canopy and kind of section my hair and smooth it over each section. Then the scrunching commences. So much scrunching! After I plop my wet hair for about 10 minutes, I flip my hair over, put another dime size glob in my wet hands, rub my hands, and apply the gel over my canopy again, getting pretty close to the roots. I used to be afraid to do this since I have fine hair, but this is definitely the way to go. Then, of course, lots of scrunching. I’ve found that it’s 50/50 product and technique. So I scrunch and sort of pump a handful of curls; then I hold them for like 20 seconds. It’s unreal the difference this makes. I get so many more waves and curl clumps. I’m a 2C/3A now. What makes Boucleme Holy Grail for me is when I scrunch the crunch. I wait until I get to my office to do it. Yes, I look awful on the way to work, like wet ’80s mall Ramen hair awful. That’s cool, though. It’s super windy in the parking lot at my job. It’s so desolate and terrible, and it wrecks my hair. But if I have the gel cast still set, that save my precious curls, my magical mermaid hair. Then I haul butt to my office, and scrunch. I prefer to root shake and rope scrunch. It takes less than five minutes, and I am gifted a head full of bouncy, luscious waves and curls. Soft, shiny, juicy, and glorious. If you knew how freaking gross my hair used to look, you’d know how massively important this is to me. So yeah, Boucleme, I love you. Totally worth the price all day long. Low key packaging, quite aesthetically pleasing. The gel smells lovely, kind of herbaceous and light. There is patchouli oil in it, so just a head’s up in case you’re not into that. It’s very subtle, though.
