good price, it sheds the dead skin without irritation. if you get too dry, just use it less often and start slow.

I know next to nothing about acids and stuff, but a friend recommended this to me and it works great! I don’t have sensitive skin so I went straight for the 10%. It really does remove the top layer of skin, leaving behind an almost freakishly smooth layer. I only ever use it once or maximum twice a week, usually only when my skin is a bit rough or pimply. The main reason I don’t use this on a regular basis is because I’m worried about sun exposure. I already put on sunscreen every day, but I don’t need another risk factor just for the sake of smoother skin – mine’s just fine as it is, slightly bumpy and all. That said, $10 for this is incredible. The packaging is great, it’s clear, pleasing, and the dropper works just great.

This is my go-to for a topical acid. I really researched and tried many, and found that LA works on my sensitive skin. AHA was just too intense and burning. I started with TO 5% and then moved to 10% with zero problems. It is funky smelling and sticky, but who cares…it works and the results show. I use it in tandem with my Retin-A (2 nights RA, then 1 night LA). That and never stepping out of the house without a full face of sunscreen, compared to my peers, I have nary a wrinkle.

Like everyone else, I quite liked this. I have sensitive skin and started off with the 5%, then moved up to this and have no problems leaving it on for the recommended ten minutes. My skin looks bright and fresh afterwards.
. My concern is about sun exposure. I am using this to try to reduce photo damage, and I read an article – a review article of all the articles on the subject – which basically says that although AHAs can reduce photo damage technically they can also cause it to get worse because you go out in the sun after using the product when your skin hasn’t totally grown back yet. (E.g. It is impossible to completely avoid sun.) This makes complete sense to me and I find it concerning so just thought I’d post here as some food for thought about AHAs. Of course one can use sun screen but sun screen doesn’t work 100 %; some rays still get through.
. As for me, I think I am going to stick with the retinol as a truly amazing product and leave it at that. I love The Ordinary’s retinol 1% in squalane.

Very effective acid for your skin at a stellar price. Your skin will look clearer and brighter very quickly. It’s strong though so unless you’re used to using acids, may want to dilute the formula to start.
The only downside I can see is something I feel about the majority of their products. I love how Deciem packages their products in glass bottles but I wish they were glass bottles with pump dispensers (as opposed to the droppers). I don’t like the idea of the unnecessary product exposure to air and it’s just a bit of pain to twist, take out the dropper, press the bulb to dispense the product, put the dropper back in, etc. – as opposed to just a quick pump.
P.s. There is a newer product line called Inkey that was just launched and their products seemed on par w/Deciem’s but there is a huge disadvantage. They package their products in this cheap looking opaque plastic that screams generic with the product dispensed through the bottle top on the side (think shampoo bottle and slight leakage every time you close the cap) but most importantly here, they may have a similar Latic acid product but they seem to fill their bottles only 70 – 70% full. Even though most of their products are less than $10, I feel cheated when Deciem clearly fills their products to the top. Now I see why Inkey packages their products in opaque plastic bottles, they want to hide where the machines calibrate the fill level – very deceptive and I will steer clear of this company going forward (too bad I threw away the boxes of the 5 serums I ordered over the weekend – I would return just to make a point about their deceptive practices).

My new HG exfoliator! I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything that made such an immediate improvement in skin. This is my favorite acid treatment by far.
Great price, very low odor. My skin always looks glowy and feels soft the morning after I use it. I’ve been using it twice a week, rotating it with BHA and a mask. I will be buying this as long as they keep making it.

Pros:
+reasonable price
+cruelty free
+nice, simple yet high quality and practical packaging(glass bottle with dropper)
+not perfumed(has a hint of chemical scent which is not strong or bad)
+even people with dry, sensitive skin who don’t have any experience with acids can use it
+no side effects (doesn’t make my skin dry, flakey, itchy or red, doesn’t break me out,it only gives my skin a very light sting which goes away in less than a minute)
+gives me quick results
+makes my skin smooth,glowy,more even,less dry,less dull,less red,makes foundations sit better on skin
Cons:
-not available in my country(Iran)
My story:
I was hesitant to order this product for some reasons.first:I have dry, almost sensitive skin.it’s not acne-prone but when it doesn’t like a product(like Nivea Soft Cream),it immidiately becomes full of bumps and rashes which heal in a week but leave me with eczema ;second:my only experience with direct acids was two years ago that I used a national brand AHA15 gel for two weeks(used it three times in a week not everyday).it made my skin superdry, flakey, itchy, red and started severe dermatitis which didn’t heal for months;third reason is that Deciem products are not available in my country.I had to order from canada with help of a friend’s friend who lives the,had to pay more than it’s real price and wait two months to receive it
Finally I decided to order it for two reasons, first: I LOVED The Ordinary brand even before trying their products.I felt very good about them and believed in them..second: I read in a review that someone mentioned foundations don’t sit well on her dry skin but this product was a game changer for her..I have the exact same problem
I know I’d better start with 5% but I thought now that I have to wait two months to receive it I want to use the best of this chance and ordered 10% Lactic Acid and some other TO products
First time I mixed it with a thick moisturizer (La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP).I didn’t experience any sting or irritation.the next day my skin felt smoother and not as dry as usual
After three days, decided to use it for second time.I washed my face with LRP Lipikar Lavante gel as I always do at nights and towel dried it.applied Clinique Even Better Essence Lotion as usual.waited for ten minutes, then applied Lactic Acid serum, this time without mixing it with moisturizer.I felt a very light tingling which went away in seconds..I waited half an hour, then put on my Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion+
Honestly I wasn’t expecting a miracle.I didn’t think a skin product can make a huge difference over a night but I witnessed a miracle the next morning!
I usually wakeup with this tight feeling in my skin but that day my skin wasn’t dry at all.it was as if I never had dry skin.my skin was so buttery smooth and looked even as there was no signs of usual redness on my cheeks and my cheeks were glowing!!and my skin stayed like that the whole day!! I saw the second miracle when I was putting on foundation.I usually wash, scrub, prime, moisturize, use Beauty Blender dampen by Mac Prep and Prime spray and even then, foundations don’t sit well on my skin.that day I just wanted to see how foundation acts on my new skin! so I dabbed a little with finger on my bare skin..and it blended like a dream and melted in my skin, didn’t look powdery as usual, didn’t cling to dry patches, didn’t look cakey, just looked like a real second skin
Third time,I used more of Lactic Acid serum and I applied it all over my face, right on my bare skin after washing and drying it.there was a light stinging but again it went away in less than a minute.I waited for half an hour then applied Biotherm Life Plankton Essence.I wanted to put on a moisturizing cream as the next step but I didn’t.my skin felt perfectly hydrated as it was.the next day I again witnessed the miracle of smooth, even, glowy skin so I continued to add then to my routine..for a while I thought most of the miraculous effects are the result of Biotherm Plankton Essence but then I discovered it’s mostly because of TO Lactic Acid10% .don’t get me wrong,Biotherm Life Plankton Essence is also an amazing skin product,I love it and will repurchase it but I owe most of those dramatic changes to The Ordinary

Review:
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% is a watery orange colored serum which comes in regular TO glass bottles with dropper(I LOVE TO bottles),it doesn’t have overpowering scent, doesn’t irritate or break out my almost sensitive, dry skin.absorbs very quickly and doesn’t leave any residue or film on skin.I’m using it for two months now(two or three times in a week) with zero side effects.it sometimes stings a little for a few seconds when I put it on bare skin, just that..my skin looks dramatically better since I started using it..there’s no dry patches or dry skin flakes anymore,,there’s less redness on my cheeks,I didn’t have any break outs, even a single acne in this two months.my skin looks and feels softer, litteraly smooth as baby skin.I had some tiny holes on sides of my face due to the blackheads I had as a teen;they seem to be less noticable now..foundations sit better and look much better on me and I need less moisturizing products.
I also started using TO Natural Moisturizing Factors cream and TO Hyaluronic Acid+B5 serum since two weeks ago and my skin has never looked better.I honestly feel The Ordinary products are all I need to keep my skin flawless whole my life.I definitely will repurchase this miraculous acid,I’m sure there are stronger options but I don’t need anything stronger.I’m also ordering a TO face oil(B oil or Borage Oil,haven’t decided yet), a TO Vitamic C (probably 30% in silicone) and probably AhA30 BHA 2 mask
I’m obsessed with this brand and wish it was available in my country too
I also wish The Ordinary to add a light, moisturizing eye cream , a calming hydrating toner and a dewy moisturizing,skin-like foundation or BB cream with a nice very fair-yellow shade to it’s products

Because I have sensitive skin and mild rosacea, I started with the 5% and just moved up to the 10% once or twice a week. This product has helped when I have any flakiness from tretinoin. I really like it.

I have repurchased this about four times as I think it is one of the most effective products from The Ordinary. I have used Glycolic Acid for a couple of years so I purchased the 10% Lactic Acid instead of the 5% – as my skin was somewhat used to acid use. Lactic Acid is a lot more gentle on my skin than Glycolic so I didn’t experience any irritation. My skin is normal – dehydrated so I use hydrating products after acids. The formula is very thin – almost watery – and I apply on bare skin before any other products. I highly recommend for those new to acids as it is more gentle and good to alternate with stronger acids once the skin builds tolerance.

After using this I got comments from friends about my glowing skin. However I wouldn’t recommend using this if you have retinol in your routine. Even though I alternated nights and used it just once a week, it made my skin barrier too thin (I’m using The Ordinary 1% retinol in squalane). Maybe the 5% Lactic Acid is better for retinol users.
