Typical gommage mask plus soothing botanicals. For those unfamiliar with gommage masks, they gently exfoliate skin. Many doubt their exfoliating abilities, but I assure you it is real, having applied gommage masks to flaky lips and had them emerge fully exfoliated. Here’s the downside to gommage masks, though: one has to use one’s judgment as to when start rubbing the gel off, and it’s never the same each time. Whether your skin is oily or dry plus the humidity in the air affects how long it takes a gommage mask to set. When right, it has gently loosened skin cells off, and you’ll rub them off in little bits of gummy gel. Do it too soon, and the mask will not have had time to loosen the skin cells. Wait too long, and the mask will just dry on your face. The time difference between these three phases could be as little as a minute if your skin is dry and the air is dry. This is why I take off one lippie. Otherwise, I love gommage masks, particularly this one by Koh Gen Do.

I have dehydrated-normal acne-prone skin and I tried samples of this 3x with 2 weeks in between each try. I’m sort of skeptical of the idea of being able to rub off skin and I think the product itself may just be balling up.
The first two times I used it, I really wanted to buy into the idea. The first time I used it, I received a compliment on my skin a day or two after and I was convinced it was the real deal but in hindsight it seemed more likely a chance good skin day. However, on the second try this didn’t seem to yield any visible results in the appearance of my skin but it did ball up less than it did the first time. On the third try, I may have left the product on for too long and it did not ball up at all, just sort of dried onto my skin. On the other hand, the dwindling of the mask balling up may indicate that I had less dead skin on the surface of my skin to remove following the first use.
This is the first and only gommage mask I’ve ever used, and while it was fun to use, it is too expensive for me to purchase given I’m not sure it is effective. And even if really is removing my dead skin, apparently it doesn’t make a difference visually (at least not that I can tell with close-up examination).

Always thought that gommage scrubs were meant to be gentle for the skin. Although there aren’t any grains in this scrub, the exfoliation was quite strong and it left my skin feeling a bit raw and sensitive after using. Would probably suit oily skin types better.

Yuck! I received several samples of this and will definitely NOT be purchasing a full sized product. I just don’t get what this product is supposed to do. Peel off the top layer of skin? Ball up? It does nothing to improve the look or feel of my skin. Oh and also: it’s completely disgusting to roll off pieces of skin/product in chunks!

I am a huge fan of gommages. However, they seem to be falling out of favor, as a number of companies have discontinued their version. So when I saw this on Sephora’s website, I was excited to try it since I’m a huge fan of the spa cleansing water and the aqua foundation. However, this just didn’t agree with my skin. First, the instructions for this one are a little bit odd. I am used to applying, waiting for it to dry for 2 minutes, then rubbing, With this one, you just apply using the rubbing technique, which was awkward. The product hurt the tips of my fingers and it made the side of my nose peel so badly, I literally couldn’t get it to stop. I tried re-exfoliating with this twice, a gritty scrub, a super emollient moisturizer, and literally nothing helped. I have ordered gommages that I used in the past from Clarins and Yonka, and I know those will work out much better.

I’ll start by saying that if you have anything less than exceptionally oily skin, this is not the product for you.
If you have oily and congested skin, you are going to love this! I researched this one mainly online and found the majority of women said it was too harsh for the their skin and I thought… Oh boy! This might actually work then! I have met a few people who have oilier skin than I do but not a lot. I’ve only found one scrub that has even shown any results and it was also a gommage formula so I thought I would splurge and try this.
In the 45 days or so I’ve had and used this, I’ve seen incredible improvement in my skins texture, clarity, discolouration and even the amount of oil over the course of the day. I use it two to three times a week, and as long as I apply a good moisturizer after rinsing well, I have had no issues with stinging or burning as mentioned by other people.
You don’t need to use more than a pea-sized amount of product. With your fingers, lightly spread it over the areas you want to scrub. It takes about 15 seconds before the scrub starts to thicken. All you do is rub with a gentle, even pressure until the scrub is balled up and falls off your skin. It gums up like glue from kindergarten, hence the “gommage” name. Don’t worry, that’s not your top ten layers of skin in the sink. That’s the product.
I’m 40, sensitive to just about every kind of product out there, have rosacea and sometimes adult acne. This is the first product to cut through the oil and actually impact my skin – which is why I believe it’s making a difference. It’s my HG skin treatment, for life!

After using this somewhat regularly this really began to exacerbate the redness and sensitivity of my skin like no ones business. I quit using it before anything else happened. Oy vey. Sorry for the let down to such previous high praise!
I now would NOT recommend this for people with delicate, sensitized/sensitive skin or even if your skin is quite thin. It starts off great but over the course of a few uses, I really didn’t want to experience more than the inflamed skin I felt beginning to occur. What shame.

Ok. I love this product. It seems to work utterly fantastic for my sensitive/delicate/reactive skin! Whereas most exfoliating scrubs just end up over-drying and irritating my skin – not to mention they just end up increasing any red/ruddiness already in my complexion, this does not! It’s amazing. My word of advice for using this (if your skin is anything like mine is = uber sensitive and dry), is just don’t over-scrub or press hard while using it on your face. Also, I’d suggest keeping usage to a minimum on an “as-needed” basic, and not as a weekly/daily regime which could be too stripping for some skin types. Like, I tend to use it more often in the summertime when the heat and extreme humidity tends to produce more yucky sweat, sunscreen, and makeup build up than in cooler months. Just my honest opinion.
I love this and it last forever!
I recommend it, especially for people weary of the typical exfoliating products who need something gentler but actually works!
