Neal’s Yard Honey and Orange Scrub is one of the few in the UK that’s rated zero for all known microplastics on the Beat The Microbead website.
I’ve tried or thought about trying other scrubs which had non-plastic beads but they disappointingly were not clear of other microplastic ingredients. I was on the verge of opting for homemade sugar/oat scrubs but then came across this product.
Smells gorgeously orangey, and the honey gives it a slightly tacky but not unpleasant feel. The scrubby bits are said to be rice powder and kaolin; there’s a lot of them, giving an effective exfoliant action without scratching.
I use a hot cloth cleanser every evening which helps with exfoliation, but still like to use a proper scrub occasionally especially during a home facial. This scrub did a great job of prepping my skin before a mask and made my skin feel clean and look glowing.
I’d say this scrub is even more effective than ones I’ve used in the past with plastic beads and I love the fact that it’s environmentally safe, natural/organic and free of parabens, too!

This product is fantastic! My favourite face scrub and I’ll never go back to any other brands.
It’s quite a ‘strong’ scrub so you only need a small bit in your hand and rub it on a (wet) face in very gentle circular motions. It really does get rid of dry, flaky skin and it helps to smooth out my imperfections and blocked pores. I use it once a week in the shower (don’t use it more than once a week as it’s powerful stuff) and when I wash it off my skin immediately feels smooth AND moisturised,
I love the natural ingredients and how zesty and refreshing it smells! It’s also knowing there aren’t any nasty chemicals in it that will seep into my body and that I’m doing my bit to not add to the damage of our environment.
Neal’s Yard Remedies products are generally on the expensive end, however for £16 and how little you use (a penny size amount), you can’t go wrong!

Great product, have been using it for 10 years now . Great divine smell, I use it in in the shower and it’s very invigorating and great for my skin. Fabulous product

Had a bit of a NYR binge and this was the only good product – actually, it’s excellent.
A previous reviewer captured it perfectly by saying it’s very ‘scrubby’ – go carefully at first if you’ve got delicate skin like me.
Left my skin feeling clean and smooth, with no blotches. Some really good ingredients, nice and effective.
£16 for a relatively small jar is pretty pricy to me, but I haven’t found another scrub with a similar composition.

This is great! It might feel abit sticky and dubious, and leave a strange sleek/sticky veil on your skin after (I skip night cream on nights that I use this), but it leaves your skin very smooth the day after! Thumbs up for being organic as well 🙂

I’m on my 2nd pot. I can’t be doing with ‘polishes’ that don’t feel like they are doing anything and like this as it IS very scubby & gives a thorough clean yet is not too harsh for my sensitive skin – could see how it might be if you used anything other than very gentle finger motion though.
Very natural, highly organic, short, pure ingredients list. Smells strongly of orange essential oil (no surprise there) which is not my favourite but it’s refreshing and I haven’t found it irritating to my skin which I did wonder about. Can’t fault it other than orange not being my preferred oil & that’s just subjective (would be 5/5 if less orangey, would have liked some honey aroma…I’m not getting the chocolate vibe of other reviewers at all!).
Might be worth knowing that because this is genuinely natural stuff, its shelf life is only 6 months. I found it lasted about right using it once/twice a week, but you could end up with a fair bit left if you didn’t use regularly as you do not need to add much product to water to scrub whole face and neck.

Made my sensitive skin go red and blotchy for the whole day and it wouldn’t go down either. Very embarrassing. It’s smells amazing though.

If I saw this in a store, I’m not sure I would have purchased it due to the price. I mean, it’s just a scrub, so how great can it be? But I was at a Neal’s Yard “facial party” and of course had to buy something. (This is a new brand for alot of us in the US, where they just started direct selling Neil’s Yard as “NYR Organics.” I was pretty impressed with the stuff we tried and if I had no job and good network, I would probably sign up to sell it.)
Anyway, here is one case where I didn’t have buyer’s remorse after a home sales party! This is an awesome scrub! I was concerned about using it in the winter because I thought it could be drying due to the kaolin but my skin stayed balanced, not tight. Also, a little bit goes a long way. I scoop a small amount in my hand, add a little water, mix, then apply. Otherwise it’s a little thick and falls off into the sink.

The kaolin in the scrub really helps draw out the crap off your skin. only thing i hate is the large sugar molecules. I tend to spready it on my face lightly and then carefully scrub. Myskni looks more refined after.

On the jar it says that this is suitable of all skin types but I think it is suitable for oily skin as it has orange, honey and kaolin in it…..these are good at removing oil from clogged pores and clearing skin. I have been leaning towards more natural stuff (e.g Witch Hazel as a toner) due to a really bad break-out. This has helped slough off the dry skin that occurred as a result of me drying out the spots. It also helped remove the oils and grime in the pores on my t-zone. It makes my face feel really soft, smooth and not tight. Other exfoliators tend to dry out my skin and then I over-produce oil to compensate…..this made using an exfoliator before makeup application impossible because of the oiliness! To use it, it must be scooped from the jar and mixed with a little water and then applied to the face. Well, herein lies the only problem……The grains seem to get everywhere and it is a bit hard to control where they go whilst applying and it is hard to remove with a washcloth! That’s why it is only rated four. Although I would by this again as it is not that expensive for an amazing natural product! Oooh- and it didnt break my skin out even more which believe me is brilliant for my sensitive skin!
