Dirty Works strikes me as a cheaper version of Soap & Glory, mainly because of the packaging – similar whimsy, if a little less classy. These wipes come in a package of 25 wipes, and seeing that I paid 49SEK rather than the 39SEK that I pay for my go-to cruelty free drugstore wipes from Formula 10.0.06, I feel a bit cheated. (Though to be fair, I think they have a more affordable price in the UK than they have in Sweden.) When it comes to effectiveness, I would compare these to the wipes I picked up at Primark while on vacation. It does remove makeup, but it takes a bit of work. The difference would be that I paid £1 for two packs of 25 wipes at Primark.. Ingredient wise I’m sure these are better than the Primark equivalent, but they’re still rather ineffective as a face wipe. They’re nowhere near wet enough, and the idea of “gentle” gets lost when I have to rub and rub and rub with a near dry wipe just to get the makeup off. There are actually a lot of things about these wipes that sounds good on paper, but the experience I had with them was okay at best, and I won’t repurchase.
+ Free of SLS, mineral oils and animal ingredients
+ “Tested on people, not animals”
+ Doesn’t leave a oily, sticky residue on the skin
+ Has antioxidant rich ingredients like cranberries and marshmallow extracts
+ Smells pretty good – fresh scent
+ Biodegradable
– Way too dry
– Not all that effective in removing makeup
– Packaging feels cheap
– I feel like the seal won’t last over time, and the wipes will end up even more dry
– Perfume might be a problem for some
Edit, August, 2016: Once you’ve gotten past the first few wipes, they are actually significantly more wet. It makes them a bit more effective, but it also confirms the doubts I had about the packaging; the seal is so bad the wipes had started to dry out before I even opened up the pack.
