I bought this product years ago and stopped using it because it didn’t do anything for me. I have very oily skin, so I figured I would give it another go to see if maybe I would have a better reaction to it. Nope. This did absolutely nothing to control my oil. Didn’t even keep it at bay for longer over the course of the day. Completely useless, for me at least. The only positive I will give it is that it absorbs quickly.

Definitely works for me

So far this has done nothing for my oiliness. It doesn’t help me become more matte or make me more oily. Take note I have the “advanced daily oil control version.” Reallyyyy wish this helped because haven’t found a drugstore primer/product that has. Also this product smells like hair dye!!

Works very well! Creates almost a mattifying mask over the skin, which can be a bit scary but trust me it keeps you looking fresher for longer. It burns a little bit on application, but honestly man up and deal with it. It doesn’t break me out and I find that it does exactly what it says, however it is rather pricey.

Another HG product for me. I don’t have oily skin so take note that I don’t use this product to control oily skin on a daily basis.
I actually use this in combination with the sulfur mask as a spot treatment to acne. It reduces pimples that have already come to head or are budding. And on white heads. It kinda dries them out I guess without the actual skin drying or anything. And then I use the sulfur mask to make them heal.
But the times I have had oily skin, I applied a dab of this all over and it took care of the shine and oiliness! I like the way it leaves my skin.
It is a product I would recommend but since I usually just steals my brother’s, I’ve never had to pay for it so I can’t say whether the effect justifies the cost.

My skin type:
– sensitive
– acne prone
– combo of oily/dry
The sales lady in a pharmacy recommended that moisturizer to me when I sad that I need something for troublesome skin. I’m not a huge fan of this product. My skin feels squeaky clean and rather dried out than balanced… sometimes when I apply it, it literally burns. I don’t know why, but obviously you don’t want to suffer from something that is supposed to help you. In conclusion, I don’t recommend this.

Eh this just didn’t work for me. It just did nothing. My face gets just as oily as it normally does. I keep using it hoping it will start to work so I keep using it, but it doesn’t. Not impressed. 🙁

I have super oily skin, make up within an hour feels like im wearing a mask.
So Ive been using this proactiv product for 3 years, I will definately say for the first couple of months it was a blessing on my skin! Really controls the shine and leaves a fresh feeling.
However after a few years, the effectiveness seeemed to wear off, as if my skin was getting use to the product. I havent seem to be able to find a better primer so I continue to purchase it. It still does the job for like the first 2 hours or so but afterwards would need to use oil blotting sheets.
If anyone finds anything better let me know!

This kind of makes my face either more oily or less oily. I didn’t even know it was possible to make my face more oily. Because of this, I have a love-hate relationship with this.

I really like this stuff. I have oily skin (t-zone, mainly) and I live in a climate that’s very hot and humid in the summer. I sweat a lot, particularly from my hairline and face, which is incredibly uncomfortable in humid weather.
I’ve tried the Pro Activ mattifying lotion, but I didn’t like it because it felt “warming” to the touch (which is the opposite of what I’m looking for in the summer, blech), and it felt like I was wearing a heavy layer of…something…on my face. Another feeling I don’t like.
This, on the other hand, feels cooling to the touch (likely because of the alcohol it contains — probably wouldn’t be great for very sensitive skins, but mine liked it just fine), and absorbs into the skin within a minute to feel like you’re wearing nothing.
I wear foundation daily, even in the summer, and this had a noticeable effect on my oiliness and my foundation’s staying power in the summer. I swear, it also somehow made my face feel a bit less sweaty. I used it instead of the Pro Active repairing lotion in the summer, and it honestly seemed to help my summer acne more effectively…to the point where, one summer, I was able to stop wearing foundation for a while because my skin looked nice without it.
I don’t use the Pro Activ system anymore, but there are a couple of their products I would continue to use on their own (to wit, the toner, the kaolin/sulfur refining mask, and the daily moisturizer with SPF 15), and this is the best one of them. I’d go out of my way to buy this on ebay, even, especially during hot weather.
The price, however, is what led me to stop buying it regularly. Pro Activ is severely overpriced, in my opinion, and I dislike their pushy business model, as well as the inaccessibility of their products. I’d love to find something comparable that’s available in a regular drugstore for a more reasonable price with no strings attached.
