This is a dry oil blend meant for use on the body, hair and face. I recently splurged on a few Guerlain bronzers; searching for “terracotta” lead me to this. The promise of nourishment, hydration and being swept away by the scent of tiare flower = sold! I have been thinking about indulging in a fragrance but wasn’t quite sure just what, and this is definitely fragrant enough to qualify as such in my book.
I love showering and shaving before bed and applying an oil all over, the way my skin feels when I wake up (super smooth, silky and well hydrated) surpasses any lotion out there. I usually reserve this bedtime shower ritual for winter because oil can take a long time to soak in so after putting on my oil I will put on a clean pair of flannel pajamas (long sleeved and pants) so my bed linens stay clean longer. But I don’t need to with this, this is a dry oil blend and I never knew I could enjoy oils without the mess. A few drops covers a large body area (leg, arm, etc.) so justifying the price tag is easy as I already spend $30 USD every year on a bottle of Aveda beautifying composition and it’s half the size of this. It soaks right in and performs exactly as Guerlain promises, my skin is feeling quite nice lately. I will, however, be frugal in use, perhaps part of my problem in my bedtime shower ritual is I use too much oil and more is not better.
I was skeptical about the fragrance in it, I usually avoid fragrances but can tolerate a quality scent here and there. And OH the fragrance, the first night I used it I woke up in olfactory heaven during my late night insomnia and felt enveloped in an exotic floral cocoon. I am terrible at describing fragrance, but it does smell like the terracotta bronzer, only sweeter… Perhaps my bronzer will take on this aroma once the fragrance has mellowed. After all, Guerlain is “the” ultimate in french perfume, oui?
I admit slight disappointment when looking further into the ingredients. This is my first use of a dry oil and the first ingredient, cyclopentasiloxane, is a silicone and not “natural”, neither are the next two listed ingredients on the label. Hmmm. But I am also a dry skinned gal and constantly cross the line between what is derived naturally and the synthetic laboratory ingredients of the 21st century.
I won’t be trying this on my face, as recommended by Guerlain, my face is the one place I have had the most adverse reactions to fragrance and I am already taking chances using Guerlain terracotta and other scented bronzers. I did put a little in my hair, just one tiny drop worked well between both palms and carefully distributed throughout my ends, knowing I would be spending the next day in the pool. Again I need to be cautious because my hair is very fine and can go from fresh and bouncy to looking greasy wet in seconds, it made it feel soft and luxurious but I can get the same effect from a fresh wash & conditioning.
Will I repurchase? Oh h*ll yes. I already have a backup on the way. I have no idea if this is going to stick around or not, I think its predecessor, Huile du Voyageur, had shimmer or tint and in the few reviews I can find others note extreme displeasure with the discontinuation of it. I also can see in the very short time I’ve been interested in Guerlain that if you see something you like, you had better get it today or it might not be there tomorrow.
