I have recently been obsessed with all sorts of oils, so I had to get myself a bottle of this stuff. I dislike the packaging because it is a medium-sized glass bottle. There is no pump, so you really should be careful not to drop the bottle. I got it on the Yves Rocher website for pretty cheap. I believe I got it for under 10 bucks? This is a really great brand that has a lot of sales, promotions, and provides customers with a ton of freebies and samples. From what I read, this oil is an ancient beauty secret of the women of Tahiti. Since it is a sunny place, there was emphasis placed on the fact that it is used on tanned skin? I have rather tan skin, no matter how much I try to stay out of the sun. The oil smells really funky. I honestly do not like the scent because it is strong and floral. I have been using it on one area on my back because it has these dry patches and the oil has been helping tremendously. I find the oil absorbs nicely into the skin and the smell fades after awhile. Once summer comes around, I will try it on my skin to see if it provides a nice, sunkissed glow. There isn’t anything in the oil itself that would bronze the skin, so I think it adds moisture to tanned skin to make it look beautiful and natural. There are people who keep saying how the oil isn’t 100% Monoi, but I honestly don’t care if it is or isn’t. I think it’s a great product, but there are a lot of oils out there that do the same thing. Many brands have been releasing body oils left and right, so there are a lot of other options. Also, I am a fan of the Nuxe dry oil. So…in other words…weigh your options!

I bought this about a year ago and have been using it mostly in the summer. I had forgotten how quickly it absorbed into skin until recently when I began to use it again.
I didn’t like the glass bottle it came in (due to greasy hands maybe dropping it) so I put it in an old pump bottle. That was kind of a mistake, because it dispenses a little bit too much oil with each pump.
I love how it makes my skin feel moisturized and look better after working outside in my garden. It absorbs pretty quickly, does not leave an oily film on the skin, and also smells DIVINE! It reminds me of the Hawaiin lei that someone gave us some years ago that my husband and I adored the fragrance of.
I got it on sale for around $8, which is a fabulous price, right from the company.
It is supposed to be good for hair too, but go easy- it can take a bit to wash it out if you put in too much.

I love monoi! The smell, the feel, and effects. BUT this is not 100% monoi! I have used real monoi and even if you look at the ingredients from this, you can see this is not 100%. Still, this smells beautiful and goes on beautifully too. I still like this despite it not being all monoi. Great for sun and after or whenever you want to feel and smell tropical. I get many compliments from this oil! Would buy again.

My bottle of this monoi oil doesn’t contain parabens, so maybe the ingredients have been changed? It does contain BHT (a common preservative), so buyer-beware if you are watching your chemical exposure.
This is a very light oil, which absorbs quickly into the skin.
I’m pleasantly surprised by the sillage! I poured a tiny amount, maybe the size of a quarter for my legs, and then just did a dab from the bottle into my palm for my arms and it’s as if I spritzed myself down with perfume.
This is strong stuff so far. The gardenia is there, and ylang-ylang definitely is sweetening up the scent, too.
I got this during one of their promotions, so it was about $10, with free shipping.
I think I’ll layer this with Jennifer Aniston Lolavie to try to extend the longevity of that perfume.

I have my bottle quite a while now and I ordered by mail directly from YR… The package is not bad, a 3.4oz glass bottle with cap screw top. The scent is quite strong (like chemical fragrance… like your air freshener) for my taste but bearable. The major con I have is this is not pure “Monoi Tiare”! This is only 50% Monoi Tiare Tahiti and the rest is mineral oil. This oil also includes paraben. You can see full ingredients from the package here:
I should have known that before I placed my order. Well, I ordered from their catalog and it was not mentioned I would get 50% mixed mineral oil. Even today, I don’t see Yves Rocher mentioned it on their website. What a rip off!
This oil never harden even in East Coast’s harsh winters. I felt quite greasy to apply to my hair and I don’t bother apply for the second time.
I recently bought Monoi Tiare (gardenia) Tahiti oil and it has mild natural fragrance scent. It doesn’t have mineral oil or paraben.

It has the 4 oz (0.6oz more than YR) in plastic bottle and I paid <$7 from vitacost, about half the price from $15 Yves Rocher charged. I feel a lot less greasy on my hair.

I bought this from eBay b/c I don’t know it to be available anywhere locally.
This oil has a lovely soft gardenia scent, closer to the scent of Nars Body Glow II oil than any other monoi oil product I’ve smelled so far (ie: B&BW Tahiti Sweetie, TheBodyShop Monoi Miracle Oil, Monoi Tiare gardenia shampoo). Nars Body Glow II & Carol’s Daughter Monoi hair products have the heavenliest smelling monoi fragrance I’ve ever encountered. I was surprised (& disappointed) to find that not all monoi products smell alike. I’m waiting to receive Monoi Tiki Tahiti Tiare in the mail to try – that brand seems to be the most well-known & popular.
This oil comes in a clear glass bottle with a screw-on cap, but as long as I pour carefully I find it’s not a messy experience. I apply it to my legs & hands (I have yet to try it in my hair). The scent dissipates shortly after the oil has absorbed into the skin – I wish it would last longer. The moisturization is lightweight & non-greasy. This is really not an “oily” oil at all. It’s made of 50% monoi coconut oil & the rest is mineral oil. It has that light golden yellow color that’s typical of monoi.
Very nice to use, this is a less expensive alternative to Nars Body Glow II oil (which I adore).

In Canada real Monoi is really expensive and hard to find. I tried monoi from the tiki brand which I prefer over this one but Yves Rocher is a good alternative on a budget. I got it at 2 for one.
Mineral oil seals the cuticule more than coconut oil so this is a good oil as a leave in on my damp highlighted mid-back hair. It’s useless as a pre-treatment though. I also use this oil after shaving. I took of one lippie because of the slightly chemical smell. Will repurchase!

This somewhat thick oil is a staple for me in summer. Since it is 75% cocanut oil, it will solidify in cold weather. The packaging is cute, but it is very easy to overdispense this, as the bottle neck is “open” like a foundation bottle. It might be nicer to have this in a squeeze bottle, that is less slippery. In the summer, I apply this LIGHTLY all over my body on damp, just showered skin. I find it absorbs well and is not sticky. One of my biggest gripes with many body lotions is that they dry sticky and tacky from the emulsifiers and waxes. An oil does not. It would be prudent to wait until it sinks in a bit before you put on your clothes, to avoid an oil stain. The scent is very rich. Not pure gardenia, but gardenia and vanilla. When this goes on, I find it doubles as a fragrance. I have also used it very lightly in my hair, with good results. the key is to use it lightly on damp hair or skin.

I had high hopes for this product. Yves Rocher has a reputation for quality, natural products, but the Monoi De Tahiti Gardenia oil falls short, IMHO. The composition of the oil is about half coconut oil and half mineral oil. I already use EV coconut oil and am happy with it as an all purpose moisturizer. Using (cosmetic grade) mineral oil does not bother me. It has been demonstrated that cosmetic grade mineral oil does not occlude pores. It’s a good, cheap moisturizer. But I did not pay for good and cheap. The product was not inexpensive. I don’t understand why YR couldn’t use another more natural plant oil like almond oil or apricot kernel oil to maintain the liquidity of the product at room temperature.
Where this product really fails is the scent. The gardenia fragrance oil that they use smells really awful. It has that acrid, burnt plastic note that signifies a cheap oil. Overall, I’m disappointed. 3 lippies for the cut retro packaging and it’s ability to soften skin,but I would not repurchase.
