I was using the CD Black Vanilla shampoo but there was a BOGO half off sale so I picked up this one to try.
Shampoo itself is medium thick and creamy, with a pleasant scent. The bottle has a convenient pump but I actually had to have my bf get it open for me the first time. Price is ok and widely available.
I felt this worked about the same as the Black Vanilla shampoo – lots of lather, nice fragrance. I know there are complaints that these shampoos leave hair feeling dry and tangly, and I agree but I don’t mind at all. I have thin hair but a lot of it, and it’s very porous. I have waves but like to encourage curls and this shampoo doesn’t weigh down my hair. I use a good conditioner afterwards and that provides the right amount of moisture for me.
I like that this doesn’t contain sulfates bc it’s gentle on my highlighted hair color and I’m following the curly girl method.
I like Carol’s Daughter shampoos and will continue to repurchase.

**ORIGINAL REVIEW:**
Not sure what I think about this shampoo yet. My hair felt extremely dry and straw-like upon rinsing. I’ll update my review after a few more uses to give it a fair chance, especially since it has so many good reviews.
I bought it because it is “sulfate-free”. I thought it would be gentle on colored hair. Perhaps I assumed so wrongly? The first few ingredients sound similar to SLS. I presume they are just lesser-known surfactants that you would expect to be less damaging compared to the infamous SLS, but I’m not convinced. Admittedly, I’ll need to do more research on the ingredients before judging. All I know is that my hair felt extremely parched and stripped upon rinsing.
The smell seems very luxe. It has a heavy, perfume-like fragrance. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it smells like. It is an intense, sensual smell, yet not a particularly pleasant one in my opinion. I don’t really care for it. Once rinsed, however, the smell didn’t really linger.
**UPDATED REVIEW:**
Well, I’ve been using this shampoo for three weeks and have decided to downgrade my review from two stars to one star.
I can’t get past the extremely dry feeling it has upon rinsing. It makes my normally smooth hair feel mangled and dry in the shower…like a dry, clumpy bird nest. I smother it in conditioner afterwards to little avail.
My flyaways and frizzies have worsened over the last few weeks as well.
I mentioned in my original review that the reviews here seem favorable overall, so I thought maybe it was just me. Since then, however, I’ve come across many reviews on the Carol’s Daughter website that seem to line up more with my not-so-impressive experience. At least I’m not alone.
I have also decided I don’t like the scent. There’s something in it that smells faintly, yet distinctly, like an ashtray to me. It’s very odd.
I really tried giving it a chance. I hate to say it, but this is my least favorite shampoo of all time…And I’ve washed my hair with Dawn dish soap before!
I haven’t tried any other Carol’s Daughter products, so maybe this one is just a dud. Some people like it, so I guess to each their own. On to the next…

I bought this shampoo after an online friend of mine told me she swears by it. I had told her I enjoy the smell of Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla shampoo but that it doesn’t do much to tame the copious amounts of frizz on my head. So, I went to Ulta and bought Carol’s Daughter Sacred Tiare Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s not too expensive; I bought the shampoo for 11 dollars. That’s more expensive than a drugstore brand, but it’s still not “breaking the bank”.
When I got home, I opened the shampoo bottle and smelled the product. I was disappointed because it’s not a strong, delicious scent like the Black Vanilla Shampoo. The Sacred Tiare shampoo doesn’t smell bad at all. The scent of the Black Vanilla shampoo is difficult to beat, for sure. I think the Sacred Tiare shampoo smells more like a standard drugstore shampoo, like one from Garnier or some other drugstore brand.
I first used the Sacred Tiare shampoo later that night. I had gone three or four days without washing my hair, so at that point, my hair was fairly oily and very frizzy. The Sacred Tiare shampoo felt awesome in the shower! It didn’t lather too much but still made me feel like my hair was getting clean. The shampoo didn’t dry out my hair too much, though. I followed the shampooing with the Sacred Tiare conditioner.
After the shower, I debated whether I should use a leave-in conditioner. I decided I’d see what the results of the shampoo and conditioner are without the leave-in conditioner or other product. When my hair was done air-drying, I noticed that my hair was mostly smooth. It was also more shiny and healthy looking than when I used Garnier Fructis’s hair care products. I still have some frizz, but I honestly don’t think any shampoo and conditioner will tame all of my frizzies by themselves. I still use Sacred Tiare shampoo and conditioner, and I’ll soon try the Sacred Tiare leave-in conditioner, as well.
I recommend this product for people with frizzy hair who don’t mind spending a little bit more money on a quality shampoo. Do not, however, expect this shampoo to remove all of your frizz. You’ll probably have to incorporate another hair care product into your routine to do that.

This is my first purchase of any Carol’s Daughter products and I love it!
I have long, fine, wavy/curly hair with an oily scalp and dry ends. I also color my hair about every 5-6 weeks so my hair isn’t in the best shape. This shampoo is sulfate free so it helps protect my color but unlike other sulfate free shampoos I’ve tried, this actually feels like it cleans my scalp. It has a light pleasant scent which I like and I have definitely noticed less breakage and frizz since I’ve started using it. I also use the matching conditioner which feels so nice in my hair.
I will definitely be buying this again.

I’ve been on a magical mystery tour of cruelty-free products over the last year or so, and I love this (and the matching conditioner). It makes my hair shiny and soft, smells great, and is easy to find. A lot of natural products make hair feel coated or dry, but this is just great. I can’t recommend it enough to people wanting to avoid sulphates, sodium chloride (ie girls with keratin treatments), or animal testing.

This is a very cleansing shampoo without the overly drying effects. My hair was left feeling soft with great shine. My hair had some good lift at the crown also. I followed it with the marula hair masque in the line and thought they paired well together. It has a light, floral scent that is nice and it creates a creamy lather. You only need to use a little bit, concentrating it at the roots. I noticed less hair fall out in the shower since using it. It does do a decent job controlling frizz. This costs about twelve bucks at Target so I will have to look out for sales when needed. If your hair does well with sulfate free shampoos, you might like this.

I’ve been using this shampoo for almost a year and still love it. My hair is 3A and 3B curls that I cowash, but when it’s time to shampoo, this is what I reach for
PROS:
-Cleans my hair. I only shampoo my hair twice a month and this leaves my dirty hair soft and clean.
-Some lather and foam. This makes it easier to use and doesn’t require you to use a lot because it distributes well in the hair.
-Smells heavenly. It has a light, clean scent but it leaves no scent on the hair after it’s been rinsed out.
CONS:
-While the packaging is nice to look at, it’s not entirely functional. I’ve gone through 2 bottles and never been able to unlock to pumps.
-Contains surfactants, 3 of which are in the top 4 ingredients. These act as detergents like sulfates but are not as bad for your hair or skin as sulfates.
I also find that my hair feels a little striped after rinsing, but I personally don’t mind that.

I highly recommend this shampoo. It cleanses without stripping the hair or scalp. I have soft, shiny hair when I use this. The scent is soft and clean with a hint of monoi oil and Shea butter. This lathers slightly so it isn’t drying to the scalp or hair. I like the pump bottle, and this is a good value for Carol’s Daughter. I use the whole line and am impressed that Carol’s Daughter made a more affordable line with high quality for Target. I love the monoi oil line, and this is very complimentary with that line.

I ran out of my A/G sulfate free shampoo and decided to pick up a sulfate free shampoo at Target. It’s only $10 for about a 12 oz so I didn’t think I had much to lose. I went by the scent (light, clean), packaging (lovely), description (sulfate free, good for color hair), and moisturizing ingredient list. I picked this over the other they had because of the scent. I am not a fan of coconut scent for my hair and this is just a lovely, clean scent I’ve never experienced.
I only wash my hair twice a week so I have to massage this in well and do use more, about 5 pumps. Don’t get me wrong though because It has excellent lather. My hair is a few inches above my waist so I wish it came in a liter size and not a small 12 oz. But it’s so worth taking that extra few seconds to massage this in to get my hair clean.
For my ombre/bleached, coarse, brittle hair sulfate free is a must. After just a few uses this has made my hair soft, manageable, doesn’t leave that dry, stripped feeling and my scalp without the itchies. It meets all my shampoo needs and does everything it says it would do.
As with sulfate free shampoos, it’s a must to use a moisturizing conditioner.
Will definitely repurchase and will be in my rotation with my A/G shampoo.
