This is my usual go to for a purple shampoo. It only rated 4 out of 5 lipsticks because once I ventured outside the confines of Paul Mitchell I discovered a different purple shampoo that was able to produce more of a yellow neutralizing effect. I still love this product though. If left on too long, it does have a tendency to make the hair go violet. I recommend this product for neutralizing unwanted yellow tones caused from things such as, smoking, chemicals contained in different waters, heat styling, etc. Don’t confuse this with an actual toner because this is not that. I love to use this on my silver, gray and white haired clients to really make those naturally sparkling shades sparkling, popping, and eye catching. I recently used this on a client who was 100% silver with white mixed in (all natural and a absolutely beautiful) and the whites were super bright white and her silvers sparkled as if I had done a clear shine treatment. She was so happy to see her hair shimmer and shine the way Platinum Blonde Shampoo made it do. Like I said, I love this shampoo but have fallen for 2 other tone neutralizing shampoos; Matrix So Silver Shampoo, which kept my whites so white and toned my naturally warm toned level 8 hair to a beautiful silver and is a purple shampoo and Matrix Brass Off Shampoo, which turned my natural hair silver and my white blonde a beautiful silvery white color and is a blue shampoo. Unless I let the Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo sit for a hot minute and risk turning my client violet or they are already silver/gray/white, I feel like I don’t get results I desire from a purple shampoo. Like I said, this is not a toner but it is a tone neutralizer and this Shampoo has me thinking I may change to Matrix for my tone neutralizing shampoos. Not only do they have amazing results but there is a blue (which is good for orange neutralization) in addition to the purple shampoo and Paul Mitchell doesn’t offer both options. I wish they would because sometimes you need more than yellow neutralization but don’t necessarily need to apply and undergo the chemical process of a toner. Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo is not a shampoo I would recommend for regular shampooing because it is a purple pigmented ‘poo and when used too often it can be another reason the hair would turn violet which may be unwanted. Otherwise, I would recommend this shampoo for all hair types and all blondes requiring yellow neutralizing. I do not recommend for anyone who has hair darker than a blonde shade and I would say a blonde (lvl 8), light blonde (lvl 9), and lightest blonde (lvl 10) for ideal results anything darker may not effected, the hair wouldn’t be harmed in any way but most likely wouldn’t reap any toning benefits. JPMS never tests Platinum Blonde Shampoo on animals and neither should you!

Smells nice, is a little drying. It does nothing reduce my brassiness and seems to have no real benefits for my hair. Shampoo one is a much better option from Paul Mitchell as it’s gentle and smells amazing. Would not repurchase this.

I recently went blonde and have been searching for a purple shampoo to help keep it looking fresh. I started with a cheaper one (shimmer lights) and it was sooo dry I could barely use it. I decided I needed to spend a little more and tried this brand. It is definitely WAY less drying. Still not moisturizing or anything but it’s do-able. My only issue is i’m not sure if it is really doing anything for my hair. I say I’m not sure because ….i’m not sure what a good purple shampoo would really do….hahahha the search continues…

My long blond hair was recently highlighted. I’ve tried all the purple shampoos but this is expensive and does nothing. The best one was a cheapie from Superdrug but they reformulated it.
Don’t waste money on this

Every colorist I try claims they will be able to make my hair a cool, COOL blonde. NO WARMTH, I tell them. They finish and of course it’s very very warm.
So this is the latest purple shampoo I’ve run to to try to fix the warmth. Cheaper and less drying than Joico’s. Make my hair softer than the drug store brands. Not much improvement after one use. I will update after I’ve used it more.
UPDATE*** It took three applications to see the results I wanted
*update 2* I get better results with Clairol’s purple conditioner.

I bought this for around $12. I was looking for something to tone down the brassiness in my hair. It DOES work! I use it twice a week, and I definitely notice a difference. My hair looks brighter and more blonde.
I usually leave it in for about 7-10 minutes.

I use this product as my daily shampoo. When I say daily, I mean that I shampoo my hair every other day but this is my shampoo I use every single time. It’s not meant to lather, and the deep purple tones any brassiness out of hair. I would not recommend this product unless you’re at least a level 9 blonde, though. This shampoo really is meant for very light blonde hair. Using this product in conjunction with Awapuhi Moisture Mist, The Cream, and Super Skinny Serum is my daily regimen and my hair is silky smooth.

i loooove this shampoo.
i have used quite a few other blonde/toning shampoos including clairol shimmerlights and anything you can get at sallys, the john freida toning shampoo, etc, and this is the best.
i had recently lightened my hair (i had been lazy with the roots and had been experimenting with warmer tones, darker blondes) so when it lifted, it was quite brassy (especially the roots). i have been using this for 5 days, and each wash it gets better and better. i think in a few more shampoos, i will have the desired ashy tone without having to do anything else to my hair. i am most impressed with the roots, they have evened out really nicely with the rest of my hair. and unlike other purple shampoos, this one smells really nice (like cucumber) lathers really well, and makes my hair really soft. i have been using this with the detangler conditioner from the same line and am really impressed. i had been using tresemme before and it had make my hair so dry and brittle and emphasized my dry ends so badly i didn’t even bother to finish it and bought the paul mitchell. will def keep using and will most likely repurchase when i run out!

I am in LOVE with this shampoo! I am a blonde and I use this shampoo every day and my hair does not get brassy whatsoever. I think this shampoo is worth every single penny and does wonders!!!!

Expensive but works well and doesn’t leave hair filmy and dry like the Clairol kind. It’s a little bit messy unless you get it in the pump bottle, the regular bottle ends up with purple streaks all over it and the shower. Overall, this is the best one I’ve used so far though.
