As someone who lives in a city with a disgustingly hot, humid climate, this shampoo is like a little gift from God. It’s insanely refreshing. This doesn’t just clean my hair – it perks me up when I’m feeling lethargic, makes me feel deliciously clean and cool, clears up headaches, you get the idea. There is a small caveat, which is that you really do need to love peppermint because this stuff packs a punch. You can literally feel the tingle, not just on your scalp, but down your whole body when you rinse your hair out. It’s a good tingle by the way – not stinging or uncomfortable. More like the weird but wonderful little shiver you sometimes get down your spine. Personally, I love it and I think most non mint-hating people would probably really enjoy it too. (As for the avocado, I can’t detect any traces of it scent-wise which is probably a good thing).
This is billed as a ‘voluminising and clarifying’ shampoo. While I can’t say that I notice any major voluminising effects, this is hands down the best clarifying shampoo on the market. Most clarifying shampoos that I’ve tried have left my hair lank, dull and stripped of moisture. Not so with this stuff – it gives you that squeaky clean feeling while still leaving my hair softer and insanely glossy, with an almost glassy shine. And I guess the voluminising aspect actually does come into play here, because unlike other clarifying shampoos, it doesn’t make my hair go flat and limp.
I think this shampoo would be suitable for just about everyone with frequency of use varying depending on your hair type. If you have hair that tends to be on the oily side, this stuff is gentle enough for everyday use. Personally, I tend to alternate this with two or three other shampoos so I end up using it maybe twice a week on average. (I have fairly thick, straight hair that’s on the drier side but the alternating different shampoo thing is more to do with the fact that I enjoy variety).
Although this isn’t cheap, I really do love this shampoo and will always have it on hand. This is the shampoo I’d pick if I was forced to limit myself to using only one for the rest of my life (God forbid). Also, if you do end up liking this shampoo, I strongly recommend buying the full litre bottle as it adds up waaaaay cheaper in terms of price per ounce or ml.
Bottom line: I adore this product. You probably will too, provided you’re not a peppermint hater. So go out and buy it, seriously. It’s amazing.

I got this from a set. I like the volumizing effect of the shampoo, but it is just a little too invigorating to use with the high concentration of peppermint oil. After shampooing, my whole face would be covered in the cooling peppermint sensation from this and it is just too much.

I first tried this shampoo nearly 20 years ago when it was recommended by a beauty rep. I have fine, straight hair and was looking for something to add a bit of bounce and shine. Combined with Phillip B. Rejuvenating Oil, this shampoo does just that for my hair. I love the shine but the best part is the flexibility and “swing” my hair has after using the two products. I found large bottles of it on an auction site and bought six of them because I heard this particular formulation was being discontinued. It will be hard to find one this good, but I will be looking. His products are not inexpensive I have found them to be worth the money.

I bought this product (£19!!) hoping that it would make my hair look shiny and healthy, and hopefully it would also help me keep it clean for longer. Unfortunately it did not do any of these. My hair looked less shiny than with other products (Aveda shampoo for example) and it did leave my ends even drier than before. I would definitely not re-purchase, I am actually hoping to swap what I have left in the bottle…

I got this shampoo on a whim while at Marshall’s. I believe PB is changing their packaging so they had liter bottles of this for $14.99 US which is a steal since normally this shampoo and the whole PB line is pretty expensive. I heard a lot about this particular shampoo that its good for clarifying your hair/scalp of product build up and it leaves your scalp feeling fresh and invigorated thanks to the peppermint extract. It does all this. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling dry or totally stripped like most clarifying shampoos. Only contains one sulfate and no silicones. It also contains avocado extract which is prob why this isn’t as drying and stripping. I use a very moisturizing conditioner after anyway so its all good. If your hair is really dirty and has a lot of product build up, its hard to get a good lather so you might have to rinse and repeat or use your regular shampoo first then use this after. It claims that its good for color treated hair and all hair types. All in all, its a great gentle clarifying shampoo and if it wasn’t so darn expensive regularly, I would def repurchase. I am very tempted to go back to Marshall’s and pick up a back up which I very well will prob do.

I really like this product, along with virtually all of the Philip B products that I have tried…was lucky enough to buy this on clearance at Anthropologie in Philly, and really enjoy it. I use it once a week as a clarifier, and find that it desn’t strip my hair of color like other clarifiers do. The scent is fantastic and I like the way it makes my scalp feel.

Another favorite product from Philip B. Definitely a clarifying shampoo, with a healthy dose of menthol to razz the scalp, yet conditioning avacado oil to make the hair soft and shiney. I can’t find fault with any Philip B product I’ve tried…I find them to be of the highest quality…the reason they’re SOho.. expensive. If I remember correctly, there aren’t any silicones in the shampoos and conditioners, only in the shine product. The more I can condition my hair with natural ingredients, the better…seems like the natural oils feed the hair instead of camouflaging problems. Also, these products are much better than any health-food store brand I’ve tried, which I find either too harsh or completely ineffective. Philip B seems to have found the perfect balance between chemistry and nature. I love these products!

I’ve been using this shampoo on/off for about 5 years now. I’ve been using this more frequently lately and noticed the more I use it, the more I love it. I actually called Philip B’s CS and asked them if this would be ok to use daily on color-treated hair and they said yes!! I love the minty tingle and spa like feel you get while using this. I always, always leave this on for a few mins. in the shower and this has done such an excellent job of getting rid of that nasty buildup on my scalp! Yes, it’s extremely expensive and you do have to use a lot, but I love it and I’ll pay extra for something I look forward to using this much!

This was just a very ordinary clarifying shampoo. It smelled nice but I had to use a ton of it on my shoulder length fine hair and the bottle wasn’t very big so I used it very quickly. I won’t repurchase. My favorite clarifying shampoo that I use once a week is the Back to Basics Clarifying Shampoo.

I love the smell of this…. its intoxicating! Your hair really smells great after using this and it just feels and looks so great after washing! Definitely a great product. Though a little expensive it can be purchased on Ebay for less.
