I was hesitant to add a clarifying shampoo to my routine, since my curly hair is so dry and I was scared it’d completely strip it. On the other hand, I add a lot of hair product to my hair (oil, curl cream, mousse, hair spray..) and I suspected my hair wasn’t absorbing a lot of the good stuff due to build-up. I came across this one that claimed to be a gently clarifying, and having had a decent experience with L’anza before, I decided to give it a try.
I use it perhaps every two to three weeks, and I feel like it really does its job. It deep cleanses my hair, but it doesn’t make it squeaky clean or a dry, tangled mess. I usually make sure to follow up with a hair mask, too, to replenish the moisture in my hair right away. I also used this a couple of days before dying my hair with semi-permanent dye to increase the longitivtiy of the colour. To be honest I’m not sure how much of a difference that did, though. It is deemed colour safe, however, and I haven’t noticed it pulling out dye any worse than my regular shampoos. Keeping in mind that I do use Lush’s shampoo bars normally, which some say strip colour a lot, that comparison may not be the best.
The fact that it doesn’t lather very much (probably since it’s sulfate free) means I have to use quite a lot to clean all of my hair thick, medium length hair. Since it’s not exactly cheap, that’s a bit of a bummer, but I use it rarely enough that I a bottle will still last me a pretty long time. Another con is the scent – it smells pretty funky to me, but at least it doesn’t linger much.

– Minor detail, but the design of the bottle makes it look very cheap. It came in a gorgeous purple cardboard box, but the bottle is an off-white colour that makes it look like a cheap, generic brand shampoo rather than something from a relatively high end saloon brand.
