I love the way they smell but suave shampoos always cause me to have a lot of dandruff

I was curious to try this out and it was on sale at my local Target so why not? Well, for starters it has a nice, light coconut scent that isn’t too generic. It does clean my hair well and isn’t drying. It works better now that I had my hair cut shorter but I attribute it to it not working well on my color treated ends. It is a cheap fix when I don’t feel like using my pricier stuff and I like to keep it on hand for guests as well.

This shampoo was very average for me. That doesn’t have to be bad, but it also wasn’t great…just like the shampoo for me. If you are on a budget, love coconut smell, have basic hair needs or in a pinch, it will do the trick and not leave your hair feeling like straw. This is a bit heavy for my fine curls and left them a bit pulled out and droopy. But unlike the Everlasting Sunshine one, this one says it is safe for color treated hair and it didn’t leave my hair feeling like straw. For anyone with uncomplicated hair, this is a fine shampoo. I usually use AG Colour Savour shampoo on my hair, but once in a while always wonder if there is a cheaper gem out there. I am still looking for that cheaper gem. Though, I would recommend the Coconut Oil one over the Everlasting Sunshine shampoo (all Suave).
The whole reason I tried this and the Everlasting Sunshine shampoos were for two reasons. First, I had a guest coming that would be using the same shower as my sons and I didn’t want to leave her with just manly smelling shampoo in case she forgot to bring her own. Second, I kept reading great reviews about how “I lost less hair with this”, “so much bounce” and it just wasn’t like that with me. I still lost the same amount of hair. And I did not have my regular bounce.

Before I review this, I will honestly confess that for no less than four years, I was shampoo’s public enemy #1. From ages 14-26 I had bleached blonde hair that was continually being flat-ironed, teased, curled or sprayed. Around age 23 I heard sulfates damaged hair (specifically curly hair, which I naturally have) and I had the naïveté to assume that was what had been causing my breakage and inability to grow my hair past my décolletage. Yeah, okay.
So I switched to cowashing and occasional dalliances with sulfate-free options and never looked back. My hair is now dark and reasonably healthy four years later, and I recently learned I have low porosity hair that is prone to buildup. All these years I wondered why my hair couldn’t retain moisture- and it was because I wasn’t washing off the buildup! The shampoo wasn’t the villain after all.
I picked this up because I wanted to experiment with mixing in a sulfate shampoo once a month or so and see how my hair responded. I’m happy I did! My first sulfate wash in four years was a refreshing experience and I wasn’t shocked or traumatized by my hair afterward, either.
This lathers well, smells delightfully coconuty, and did not leave my hair stripped, parched or dead. Even before I added my deep conditioner it felt fine. I actually felt like my hair could breathe and take in moisture without barriers again.
To people with damaged or dry hair- and yes fellow curly girls too- don’t be scared of using sulfates now and then to allow your hair to “reboot”. If we are going to use leave ins, masques, oils, gels and sprays we NEED to clarify even if it’s just a few times a year. My curls don’t look frizzy or crazy after this, either.
The price and how gentle this was on my hair will keep me buying! Now that I know this line is easy on curly hair (and won’t strip my color either) I will check out what else they have to offer.

So far, I love this shampoo. It smells delicious and makes my hair smooth and not greasy.

This shampoo on its own isn’t anything mind blowing, but I feel that way about most shampoos that aren’t medicated. But, when combined with the conditioner from the same line, it makes my hair feel like silk! I have dry, wavy hair that is prone to split ends and breakage. It was feeling like straw before I started using this duo in my routine, and I believe you get the best results when you don’t mix and match these products. The conditioner always works so much better when combined with this shampoo. You cannot beat the price, on sale or full price, it is very affordable. I am firm believer in mixing up your routine once in a while to prevent product build up, so I use this in rotation with a couple of other products.

My scalp is oily but I can usually handle heavy/moisturizing shampoos with no problem as long as they have sulfates. This shampoo doesn’t get my hair clean at all. It doesn’t do anything good for my hair overall, either. It’s really tangled after rinsing. Also made my scalp feel super itchy. As far as damage repair, you can’t actually REPAIR damage to your hair after it’s been done so for me that’s a moot point. I’ve loved so many of Suave’s products but their new lines have been such misses for me.
