I suddenly thought of this shampoo while having dinner @ a restaurant yesterday Bc the wet nap napkin I had opened had the distinctive fragrance of this finesse shampoo I had used so much of as a teenager! & the hair spray had that same finesse fragrance ! It’s a very fresh scent that I really liked when I was a teenager but now I would never buy it again Bc I try to avoid all products that have fragrances to them Bc I have very sensitive skin! & back in the day this shampoo was probably irritating my face Bc I think it was making my skin red!

The first times I used it I was thrilled. It left my hair soft and manageable. Then it dried it, so I had to stop using it.

Whenever this is on sale I always stock up because at $1.99 Canadian it’s an absolute steal! This works better than any other shampoo I’ve tried and I’ve gone through dozens of brands in search of the perfect shampoo. It’s gentle enough for everyday use and doesn’t strip my hair, and it smells great too 🙂

Excellent – under $2 at the pharmacy!

I use this after I’ve been at the pool or beach. It really cleans my hair well without stripping the color. It makes my hair feel so soft and healthy. I also love the fragrance, Finesse products smell to great to me. If I follow my a Finesse conditioner, the fragrance really lasts in my hair all day and then my co-workers will walk by me and say “your hair smells great!”.
Rave from me!! :o)

This is one of the best clarifying shampoos I’ve tried. I use it daily and it never dries my hair out. Great scent, and cheap too!
shamefulWhiting2
This is my favorite clarifying shampoo and I use it weekly for my thick, coarse, and curly hair. It doesn’t dry out my hair, but effectively removes all the styling gunk. It lathers nicely, doesn’t have a heavy fragrance, and it leaves my hair fresh and shiny. Best of all, it’s CHEAP!!
eagerLocust3
My favorite clarifying shampoo. I have natural type 4c coarse hair so my hair works well with heavier products (butters/creams etc). So I need a good clarifying shampoo to get all the product buildup off not just my hair but also my scalp. Its about $11.60 a bottle (about .34 cents per oz) but you get an entire liter or 33.80 oz in it so it lasts for a while. I only clarify if I really think my scalp needs it so I dont dry out my hair too much. That said this is a strong shampoo and leaves a “squeaky clean” feeling to the hair so be sure to use a deep conditioner after using this. I usually shampoo twice just to make sure everything is off my scalp making sure to really work it in. It lathers well and has a clean smell to it. Texture is like any other shampoo runny but not watery. The color is compleatly clear however it does have fragrance so if thats not you jam keep caution. Ive bought this twice now and will continue to use it as needed.

I really like this product. It’s no frills as in standard packaging and basic scent. But it works wonders. I only shampoo my hair about once a week and co-wash the rest of the days. I can use this once a week and it deep cleans my hair and removes product build up without drying my hair or striping the color. A great product.

I just purchased and used this today. I really like it! It does just what it’s suppose to. I am Af. American and growing out my relaxer. This shampoo cleansed well and my hair didn’t feel stripped. It left my hair moisturized. My conditioner went on like silk after using this shampoo. I purchased at Sallys for $9.99 and this is a great buy you get 33 oz. I will repurchase!!!!!!
bubblyZebra2
This shampoo is found at Sally Beauty Supply. It’s been reformulated with a “New Fragrance and Formula”, which is really nice because I remember not liking the smell when I was younger.
I got 2 new bottles on a BOGO at Sally’s. I needed a clarifying shampoo, so this was good.
I really like it. I like the new smell (kinda like cranberries) and it does work really well. I feel like the build-up was really washed out of my hair and I noticed significant volume when I took my hair out of the towel! 🙂 No gunk to hold my hair down, I guess.
I would repurchase when I run out. But that won’t be for a long time with my two big bottles. Yay for BOGOs!

Excellent clarifying shampoo. I bought it after I noticed that my hair wasn’t curling (I’m naturally curly) no matter how many products I used. Shampooed once and boom! Curls back. My hair is colored and I don’t notice that it strips the color, but I only use it once every couple of weeks or so. Great product.

This is awesome if you use a lot of product in your hair for styling, leave-ins, serums, etc. If you ever find your hair getting flat or heavy or feeling ‘coated’ you might just need a clarifying treatment. I use to use this once a week and it is shocking, being one who washes her hair every day, to see the amount of discoloration in the water once you rinse.
Every day I use Its a 10 Leave In Conditioner, a split end sealer, maybe hairspray and maybe shine spray. And like I said I shampoo and condition every day too.
So, once a week I’ll get this out. Its in a pearly white bottle with purple accents and the product itself is transparent orange and smells of oranges, oddly enough. I lather up with it, leave it in for 5 mins or so and rinse and the water is like dark brown lol. and it’s not like I’m rolling around in the dirt all day.
Afterwards my hair feels squeaky clean, dry, and tangled but you HAVE to use a good conditioner following a clarifying shampoo because the shampoo strips everything out of your hair, hence: clarifying.
This is a great, effective, inexpensive clarifier. Not meant for softening hair, conditioning hair, taming hair, etc. Just for removing buildup

I have chin length fine hair that is light blonde and dry from coloring. My hair has not been responding to any products I put in it like mousse, velcro rollers to add volume etc. It’s just been a mess when I wake up in the morning…sticking straight up all mashed around..even after shampooing it felt heavy and didn’t move. Lastnight I went into Sally’s and got this after looking up reviews. I used it that same night and what a difference.
Because my hair is dry, it did feel like it stripped my hair but nothing conditioner afterwards couldn’t fix. My hair looks, feels and shines like real hair again!! I can’t believe I went so long without this little miracle. It’s amazing.

This is the first clarifying shampoo I’ve ever purchased so I don’t have much to compare this to, but i thought this stuff was great- nice scent, really cleaned my hair and didn’t strip it of it’s moisture at all. I have 3c hair, frizzy, and curly/wavy.

For once, a product does what it says it is going to do! Love this shampoo once a week to clear out excess build-up and grease.
grizzledCow2
Very happy with this product. I recently moved from NC to TX and am plagued with hard water. I was using Paul Mitchell color care and it just wasn’t getting my car clean because of the water. A good wash with this every so often makes my PM shampoo work again.
I also bought the Ion Hard Water shampoo and am happy with that as well, as I have been generally happy with all ION products I have tried.

i loved this stuff! it made my oily hair feel nice and clean and the conditioner was nice to it wasn’t to drying it was just perfect but i had to stop using it cause i colored my hair :[ but if you have oily hair and its not colored then i recommend this product

While the smell is amazing it is really harsh. Like suave harsh… would expect it to be a bit gentler considering the price.

I bought a 10oz bottle for $13 at Ulta. This is a thick, pink gel that smells of grapefruit. I use this twice a week because I have really oily hair that I style with a glycerine based leave in and that can cause build up over time. It gets my hair completely clean and residue free without making my hair super dry and crunchy or fading my black dye job. Since it is clarifying I always follow this up with my Deep Moisture Masque from Kenra as well and my hair looks and feels way better than with any drugstore clarifying shampoo and deep conditioning mask duo I’ve ever used. You definitely get what you pay for!!!
Update: went to using this once every two weeks, so twice a month, & adding extra virgin olive oil to the Kenra Masque afterwards. I apply heat with the hair masque & olive oil & this is exactly what my hair needs to be refreshed & very smooth with zero frizz. I use Shea Moisture’s Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo as I wash my hair daily & using the Kenra Shampoo every two weeks works much better than twice a week.

Probably the best clarifying shampoo I have used in my almost 45-years!!! Has a mild, pleasant smell (cannot detect the smell exactly, not floral, but.just pleasant, and my nose is sensitive to smells), and it even leaves my hair feeling crazy-fuller after using it!! It clarifies and removes all the junk but not to the point that your hair feels like total straw, like some clarifying shampoos do. You will need a conditioner or moisturizer after this, but that is pretty much usual for all clarifying shampoos. Unless you are a man and/or a woman with very shortand/or virgin (never seen a chemical) hair. And this actually also lasts me way longer than any other clarifying shampoo I have ever used. So while the initial price is a bit steep, I feel it is worth it, and you (I?) get way more uses out of this than any other clarifying shampoo of the same size bottle. So, that actually greatly helps off-set the initial price.Plus given how well it performs, imho, it is well worth it!! Will definitely re-purchase!!!

Holy moly — this is the worst clarifying shampoo I have ever used for my hair. Actually the worst shampoo of recent memory. Let me be clear — I did follow it both times of use over the last two weeks with a nice heavy mask and oils and all the moisture products I normally use after a clarifying shampoo. I usually use Joico, and love it. This shampoo leaves my hair stringy and unmanageable. And not just for the one day of clarifying, but for an entire week. It is literally the worst thing I have ever used on my hair. Obviously I am a huge outlier as many love this, so my hair in case this helps someone is: fine, foiled blond, shoulder length. This poo made me very sad. I know my hair is fine, but a week of stringy hair is a real bummer. It was the only new hair product introduced. I did enough experiments for “science” to make sure this is the culprit. Use with caution and I hope you are in the many this very affordable citrus bomb works for!
needyClam5
Great product. Yes, it is a bit drying but I have found that if you follow it with other products intended to impart HIGH levels of moisturize (both rinse-out and leave-in conditioners and hair oils), I have no dryness at all and my hair is definitely lighter and more residue-free.
awedIcecream8
I’ve used this shampoo for five years, experimenting with other products in between. It is a pink gel, that smells like grapefruit and foams up easily. A little goes a long way (only on my fourth bottle) and I purchase mainly from Ulta. I originally purchased it because of hard water build up in my hair and have continued to use it when I moved to soft water climates and back to hard water. I now use it not just as a shampoo but to clean my hair brushes, bobby pins, flat iron plates and silk pillowcases.
For my hair, this shampoo acts like a balancing conditioner would, except in cleanser form. It cleans without over-drying the hair, makes the strands smooth without coating the hair, strengthens while hydrating, and leaves my scalp smelling fresher (longer) than other shampoos I have tried. It also allows my hair to absorb product better (i.e. deep conditioners, leaves-ins, stylers, serums, moisturizers, color).
This shampoo has been drying if I used it too often, but overusing anything can do that. I just use this as needed, which is anywhere from once every 3 days to once every 1.5 weeks. I alternate with a conditioning cleanser in between washes.
I wear my hair flat-ironed straight and in my natural coily/curly texture and this shampoo gives me glossy, detangled hair with both routines.
This is definitely a staple and I will continue to purchase.

I’ve been using this for a few weeks. As I’ve gotten older (I’m 37) my hair has gotten insanely oily, so I picked this up to see if it would help with that. I don’t particularly care for the grapefruit scent. The formula itself is drying. I don’t really use product in my hair because it makes it more oily so I can’t say how well it removes build up. But I use this with Pureology Hydrate conditioner and it makes my hair feel clean. I wouldn’t repurchase only because I hate the scent.
grizzledMeerkat3
This smells yummy like all of the Loma products but doesn’t work great. My hair felt unwashed, greasy, and flat.. I wouldn’t recommend.
curiousBustard4
I use this daily in my salon and weekly at home. Not only does it work wonderful but it smells heavenly. It is very gently to the hair but works amazing to help purify hair. It is one of the only things short of bleach that I have used to successfully lighten Pravan Vivids hair color from my blonde hair.
needfulOrange5
This is the most gentle clarifying shampoo I’ve found. I use tons of products in my super fine, waist length, highlighted and permed hair. I use this 1x/2 weeks and I notice my hair is clean but not stripped.

This is a nice clarifying shampoo. It’s a little pricey, but here’s what I like/dislike about it.
Pros:
The fragrance. So warm and earthy and sexy- a shampoo that smells sexy!
It does a nice job of removing buildup from styling product and stretches of dry shampooing.
A little goes a long way.
CONS:
On my fine hair can be drying. I have to chase it with a deep conditioning.
Can cause lots of tangles.
wrathfulMuesli4
I have used this for years and currently it is the best shampoo I own even though it’s old. It works. It’s so huge that a bottle lasts me several years. It used to be called Clarifying, and now it’s called Deep Cleanse, both with the green label and it’s the same shampoo. It’s often on sale for $3.99.
I use various gels and mousse to style my hair, and so after a few days the hair gets a buildup, and if I use this once in a while it gets it all off.
Recently I tried a tea tree shampoo that left a coating on the hair and this got it off. What’s more, this left my hair fluffy and with a natural wave. I don’t use a conditioner after, since the object is to get rid of the product buildup. Even normal shampoos and conditioners will sometimes cause a buildup and leave my hair flat, no matter how much I rinse.
There is no matching conditioner for this brand, and I have not used any of the other types of Tresemme shampoos so I have no idea how they would work.
Unfortunately this has some questionable ingredients and I shouldn’t be using it at all. But using ultra pure shampoos does not give me the nice wavy effect. I may have to stop using this. I’m going to test some others.
Update: because of the questionable ingredients I had to throw this out. I’ve managed to get good results from two Garner shampoo and conditioner sets.
blissfulCardinal8
To the person who said this product made her/his hair break, you must use a moisturizing shampoo afterwards; A clarifying shampoo strips everything, including moisture from the hair. That being said, you must restore the moisture, with a good moisturizing shampoo…oh, and don’t forget to condition! ????
sugaryHoopoe3
I used this shampoo about three times and it caused my hair to fall out- big time. I have never had a problem with hair loss before. I told a friend of mine and she agreed. She had used Tresemme a year ago and lost so much hair. If you google search Tresemme hair loss, you will be scared to use this shampoo.
I’m not sure if it’s because I have very fine hair, or what. I will never buy this again. I’m shocked to see some good reviews on this product. I’m glad others haven’t experienced the hair loss.
For anyone who is using this shampoo and is experiencing hair loss, stop using it immediately.

Have used other clarifying products that start at $30 a bottle for about 200ml and this is about $5-10 for 500ml so that in itself is amazing. I have really thick, dark, European hair (think horse hair) and I style it every day so had a decent amount of build up. I use this shampoo every time I wash my hair and it’s amazing. I don’t like using other shampoos bc my hair gets oily the next day but with this, I can go 2-4 days without washing it. Could not be happier with this product
puzzledCoconut1
This is a very good shampoo and does what it says. I like everything about it: the consistency (kind of thick, not liquid), the fact that it’s transparent, the smell. It lathers very well, too. It has a rather “pro” feel to it. It deep cleanses my hair without leaving it “straw like”, but yes, you will need to use a conditioner with it. I am a little bit of o “shampoo junkie”, I like trying new ones all the time, and I have repurchased it once already. I use it when I feel like having fluffy, super voluminous hair rather than ultra glossy super hydrated hair. I took one lipstick off because eventually, If I don’t use my selenium sulfate shampoo at all for a few weeks, my scalp will start itching, but then again, this is a personal sensibility of mine and can’t be blamed on the product.
peacefulShads0
I think this is a good shampoo, it is a bit temporarily drying but I enjoy that squeaky clean feeling. I have incredibly fine hair and this hasn’t really done anything bad to it, to my knowledge. I only wash my hair every other day and use a rich conditioner so I quite like this.
zestyMandrill1
Unfortunately this shampoo made my scalp and hair soooo dry. But I’m using it to clean my makeup brushes and it works well 🙂

Claims – True or False?
1) Restores hair’s natural radiance and shine: True
2) Eliminates dulling deposits and build-up: True
3) Gentle for everyday use: False
4) Colour safe: N/A
Packaging:
Comes in a silver plastic squeeze bottle. Dispenser is at the top of the bottle, press down to open. Plastic is soft and easy to squeeze, and it’s easy to squeeze out the desired amount. Comfortable in the hand when using in the shower. INgredients listed on the back.
Formula:
Clear, purple formula. Has a light fruity fragrance, and I do very much love the scent. Lathers very well and easily, easy to rinse, easy to distribute. No stickiness or creaminess. Fragrance can linger slightly in the hair.
Performance:
This shampoo does an excellent job of clarifying and chelating the hair. It leaves my hair and scalp feeling very clean, no residue left behind, although it does leave my hair dried out. Unlike some shampoos I’ve used, it’s easy to rehydrate my hair afterwards, although my hair is not as hydrated as it is when only cowashing. Lathers really nicely with a small amount of product, doesn’t seem to dry out my scalp or cause irritation, although if I over-wash my hair I can get some itching. Either because of the protein in it or because of the strong cleansing action, it leaves my hair stronger and without excessive stretch, and I do think it helps revive my curl if too much build-up is causing stretch. This is definitely not something I’d want to use regularly though, and would only use every few months to remove hard water build-up and product residue. Contains alcohol, aloe vera gel (aloe causes build-up in conditioning products for me), and salt. Also contains protein. Thus one must be careful with how often this is used if dryness is an issue. My hair does look shiny after use, I don’t notice any frizz or increase knotting unless I do a poor job conditioning. It does feel fairly knotted however while I massage it through my hair, but once rinsed out my hair is fairly tangle-free.
Bang for your Buck:
I purchased the 300ml (10oz) bottle for around $13CAD. This is on the pricier side, but because I do not use it too regularly and because not a lot is needed, I do not find this to be expensive for my regimen. I can see this bottle lasting a year or longer with regular use.
Final Consensus:
This is a very effective clarifying/chelating shampoo, although hair needs to be babied/pampered before and/or after use to minimize dryness. I do very much like the results I get with it, and with my current routine it doesn’t cause too much dryness (although my hair is lower porosity and does respond well to proteins, so YMMV). I will check out other chelating shampoos when this product is used up or if I find a few on sale/travel size, but this is a product that I would repurchase and continue to use as I feel that it does a great job of cleansing and the negatives aren’t big enough to cause any serious issues on my hair.

Best for removing product build up and mineral build up. I have tried a good bit of shampoos to ensure build up is removed. This has been the best so far. When my hair is normal it does not cause any problems but when I have damage it a bit drying so I follow with a really moisturizing conditioner.
When looking at products to remove build up you need to look for certain ingredients. Most importantly the product shouldn’t have ingredients that will build up like oils, waxes and silicones.
Ones that get the job done in this product:
Sodium Myreth Sulfate – gentle cleanser compared to other sulfates can remove build up
Cocamidopropyl Betaine – gentle cleanser to avoid using several harsh cleansers
TEA Lauryl Sulfate- this is a harsh sulfate but works well to remove product build up
Witch Hazel Extract – is good for the scalp to help clean it balance it out
Disodium EDTA – it counteracts the adverse effects of hard water by binding with heavy metal ions
Has a nice citrus sweet smell. Not strong at all.

Back in the mid-90s The Body Shop had a great grapefruit shampoo which I loved, and when I was searching for grapefruit shampoos in hopes of finding something similar, this one came up. This does smell nice and fresh, like pink grapefruit. It’s a thick pink gel that lathers well and rinses clean. My one issue with it, is it tangles my hair quite a bit and I end up having to use way more conditioner on my fine hair than I would like, and I end up with flat hair. I use this only once in a while.
chicSnipe7
My relaxers were just not taking well, and I felt that no matter what I did my hair was not getting moisturized with my conditioners and the protein I was using was not helping. My hair was porous and just really not looking good. I switched brands of relaxer, bought all kinds of glossifiers, even the expensive one that says it is “argan oil”. I don’t use hair spray or gel, but I do use heat protectant, I switched that too. All of this was a big mistake because everything I was trying was laying more and more silicones on my hair and blocking the moisture out.
In a fit of desperation I went to Sally’s Beauty Supply. The lady there was actually a retired beautician and she told me I needed to clarify and chelate. Clarifying takes away products, chelation takes out minerals. The EDTA in this is the chelation part. I washed and let it sit on my hair for 5 minutes, then rinsed.
My lord, I could not believe the difference even before putting on a conditioning treatment. The hair actually was clean, but not that stripped down “squeak”. My hair absorbed the conditioner lickety split and I found that my hair was much easier to manage. I got rid of all those glossing drops/gels/oil sheen sprays (they contain mineral oil which is another devil for my hair!)
I have been using this product the week before my relaxer and things have never been better. Clarifying and chelation ladies, they are the key to better moisture and protein absorption and healthier hair. I guarantee it.

If you read my WEN review, you know that I’ve been on a quest to replace it, and that quest has really paid off.
The first thing I needed to do was to really purify clarify my hair. I tried using other shampoos from Sally’s (am now a fan and a member:), and although my hair REALLY felt clean for the first time in a long time, I didn’t really feel that all the junk was out.
Asked a lady at Sally’s and bought a huge bottle of this shampoo. Wet, shampoo, leave on a little while, and rinse. Voila…My hair is so much clearer, and it doesn’t dry it out. I now use this at least once a week and my hair feels wonderful.

Way to go Ion! Stepped into my new Sallys and WOW , so many new Ion products my head was spinning.
First two new ones to try were this shampoo and the Hard water conditioner.
Love this shampoo, citrus smell is great and it worked to tone down those awful brassy notes in my hair. I am sold.I am on town water with no softener so I know there are minerals in the water ( and on my hair)
When you get a visible difference in your hair, its a winner.
