Tried this because I like this sort of thing and found this at a great price. For comparison’s sake, I have also used Jergen’s Natural Glow and Nature’s Gate Glow Lotion. Like those, this is not strictly a self-tanner but rather a lotion that uses self-tanning ingredients to give a subtle bit of color. It does help if you have a bit of natural color going as well, but I usually don’t.
Pros: Good price, cruelty free (last I heard, anyway), not orange or streaky. Smell isn’t great but isn’t the worst of the self-tanning lot.
Cons: I am pretty fair, so I wasn’t expecting this to give much color, but it was barely noticeable, even after daily use for over a week. Not quite as moisturizing as others. As far as I know, this isn’t available in a pump, which I would prefer (though it is easier to get all the product out of the bottle than a lot of pumps are). Also leaves me feeling a bit sticky.
Overall, this isn’t a disaster, but to me it isn’t worth the effort or money.

Love this! I see a lot of people complaining about this lotion doing absolutely nothing for them. If you are looking for a true self tanner, this is NOT for you. If you want a GLOW and a slight hint of color, this is absolutely wonderful. I am naturally very pale and was looking for something that would give me a hint of color so I wouldn’t be so pasty. This did the trick.
Pros:
– It looks completely natural. I’ve used a lot of self tanners and almost all of them have the “self tanner look”
– Doesn’t streak. I exfoliated the first time I used it and have been using it everyday for a week after my showers.. have seen zero streaking even when I’ve slathered it on in a rush.
– Cheap and easy to find
Cons:
– Is a bit sticky, like most self tanners
– Smell is not all that great. Not as bad as some, but I wouldn’t want to hug someone after putting it on.
Bottom line: If you are looking to make your skin glow a little, this is an affordable and easy to use product to achieve a hint of a tan.

I was hoping this would replace my long time go-to, the Jergens gradual self-tanner, simply because the Nivea is a greater quantity for your buck. But, this didn’t work for me and definitely not as well as my standby Jergens.
The good:
1. Quantity – almost twice the amount of the Jergens for only about $2 more
2. Packaging – good bottle with good dispensing
3. Color – fairly natural looking, not at all orange
4. Consistency – thin enough to spread out quite nicely
5. Moisturizing – good enough to use as a stand alone body lotion
Not so good:
1. Smell – a bit strong, smells like clay and tends to linger and even resurface on hot days even after initially fading. There were times I used this and felt like I had to shower again to rinse off the smell before going out in public.
2. Results/payoff – takes about 2 applications to start showing up, but the light-to medium never really becomes tan no matter how many times you apply. It’s just a slight hint of color. Even worse, it starts to fade unattractively after just 2 or 3 days. Becomes patchy way too quickly. Can also be a bit streaky, even with proper exfoliation and application.
3. Drying – absorbs fairly quickly and doesn’t transfer but can feel a bit tacky for hours after.
I wouldn’t buy this again, and I didn’t even end up finishing the bottle.

I bought this just to maintain an existing tan; not to create a tan. I thought it provided a subtle color, not a blatant self tanner look. The smell didnt bother me, but then again I don’t really mind highly fragranced products in general. This product lasted quite a long time with multiple uses per week. (about 8 months, give or take) The only negative is that it would break me out occasionally when used on my face. I think something more gentle such as Jergens face tanning lotion would be a better fit for facial use. Definitely would repurchase as a maintenance product.

I got this in Fair to Medium tones. It did absolutely NOTHING. I am very fair and this gave me no color whatsoever. Ok, got the Medium to Dark, same result. What a waste of money. Even though it is much more money, I am going back to my regular Lavera and/or Alba Botanicals tanner…

if this actually worked, i might forgive the smell. i’m NC25; i only use this on my legs b/c the rest of me somehow manages to get color in the sun. due to the smell i can only stand to apply this 2-3 times a week, always after exfoliating/shaving. haven’t noticed any color change, which i guess is better than orange/streaky, but not worth paying $ for. it’s also not especially moisturizing, but i have dry skin + live in the desert. the previous reviewer mentioned covering the smell w/another scented moisturizer, but i typically don’t like scented moisturizers, so that doesn’t work for me. the smell starts off chemically fruity and ends up just plain chemically. no one else has commented on it (not that ppl sniff my legs that often), but it’s enough to distract me at work.

First I’d like to point out that most people have no idea how to apply sunless tanner and get really frustrated when it streaks or when the color builds up darker on places like elbows or around ankles and the bends behind the knees. You have to take a cotton ball with a little water and dab it over these areas to blend out the tanner a little.
Having said that, I actually did not do that with this daily moisturizer with gradual tanner in it. I’m on day two of applying it at night and so far I’m not orange or streaky. I have a little color on my skin that does look natural. Now what I hate is that tanner smell, and while you cant get away from that (though I heard Jergens has just revamped their line of Natural Glow without the smell of the DHA), this DHA scent is not overpowering and with a little application of a scented lotion a few hours after this, you can barely smell it at all and the scent fades completely by morning.
SO….I’d continue to use this. Not bad.
