I really enjoy this as a winter self tanner. It’s subtle but noticeable. I like to self tan year round but I go for less obvious tan when it’s not spring/summer. This is my last step before I go to bed. I do my normal skincare routine and wait about half hour for that to absorb. Then I use this sleeping mask and it provides the extra hydration needed in cold weather and I wake up with a bit of a sun kissed glow. This is not an obvious looking self tan- I can’t stress this enough. I use it a couple of nights in a row to maximize the effects and then it wears off naturally throughout the week.

As a fan of self-tan without the mess and risk of looking too orange, I had wanted to try this for ages. However, I wouldn’t buy again. Don’t think it’s worth the money and don’t overly like the colour it makes me, not sure what it is but possibly a bit harsh! I’ve used Clarins golden glow booster drops for years and will keep using – they make my skin look healthy and sunkissed the next day.

Of all the Charlotte Tilbury skincare products I’ve tried (nearly all of them at this point), this one is by far my favorite. It functions as a sleeping mask, and has a gel-cream texture similar to Korean sleeping mask formulas. The idea is that it’s supposed to give you a gradual tan over the course of a few applications. For a bit of background, my skin is a very very light olive, so I find a little extra color keeps me from looking sallow, but it’s also very jarring if the color isn’t quite right. The color this gives is perfect: very minimal and natural, just a bit of warmth like I’ve just come back from a weekend at the beach. You won’t get a deep tan from this, so if that’s what you’re looking for I wouldn’t recommend this product. As for the other skincare benefits, I do find it hydrating enough to use on its own. The packaging is attractive and utilitarian – – the squeeze tube offers great control in how much product you want to use, and I like enough to cover my face, neck, and chest. It’s pricey, but unique, and I do reach for it multiple times a week, so for me it’s a definite repurchase. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to achieve a subtle glow.

In an effort to match my pale face to my slightly tanned body, thought I’d try this mask. According to instructions, you wear it 1-3 nights in a row to build up the tan gradually. Charlotte recommends applying the mask to the neck and décolletage as well.
Application:
Overnight Bronze & Glow Mask goes on like a gel, cool and comfortable, not greasy, with no visible texture. (It’s not like a clay mask. It’s more of a moisturizer with DHA.) I am extra careful when blending this with my fingers. (I usually buy tanners with color guides and there’s no temporary bronze tint in this one.) There is a mild citrusy fragrance, but once it sinks into the skin I’m no longer aware of it.
First impressions:
Morning After 1: I woke up and washed my face. The mask has given me some color but not much. I certainly don’t look brown, but at least it’s not orange. I wasn’t expecting to awaken deeply tanned because this is a gradual product. My face isn’t quite as pale as it was last night, and has a dewy look. Skin feels smooth and firm. No streaking.
Morning After 2: A little more color than yesterday, really even. I’m one foundation shade darker than I was two days ago.
Morning After 3: I have a “golden glow,” but it’s not the sunbaked bronze I saw on Charlotte’s models. After three uses, my face has caught up to my arms, which are lightly tanned.
This works well on my sensitive, combination skin. I didn’t break out from using it. My skin didn’t get irritated at all. The mask felt hydrating as promised.
Obviously you can stop after one night or two if you are satisfied with the color you have. The difference after one use was noticeable to me, but not dramatic enough for friends to ask me if I’d been sunbathing. As a bonus I’ve been able to use a bottle of foundation that was collecting dust because the shade had been too deep for me before I started using the mask.
Longevity:
My results lasted only a few days. I washed my face morning and night as usual, and two evenings after I stopped using Charlotte’s mask, I returned to my usual night treatment which is Drunk Elephant’s Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. With less exfoliation you might be able to keep your faux tan longer. The color wore off evenly with no patchiness as it faded.
The Verdict:
This is a good facial tanner if you just want to match your face to your body which might be a shade or two deeper. If you are naturally as fair as Nicole Kidman, this is unlikely to give you Jennifer Aniston’s tan. Charlotte’s Overnight Bronze & Glow Mask provides light/medium results over three nights. If you want a nut-brown bronze color, you’ll probably need a darker product than this, however; it is gentle and easy to control, so it takes the fear out of self-tanning.
Cost:
The mask is $55 for 50 ml. At the time of this review, you can get a free sample of Overnight Bronze & Glow Mask at checkout when you buy any product from Charlotte’s website.
