I think the last time I added a new product to the database in order to write a review it was years ago for the Lumene Vitamin C comfort radiance cocktail, which I love to this day. Normally if a product isn’t listed I don’t bother because I’m very lazy and rarely does it warrant a shout out (or warning, for that matter). So here I am with the Hamptons Glow luminous skin tanning mist.
I’ll provide a summary at the bottom because I have a feeling I might end up going on a bit. Who knows.
So…I’ve been self tanning longer than I’ll admit to being alive. Since Clarins came out with their very first self tanner. I remember being 16 years old on the (oh yeah this is going to be quite the lengthy one, feel free to scroll down) back of my boyfriend’s motorcycle and when I put my hands on his shoulders he said “did you get a tan or paint yourself brown?” I told him to mind his business and keep his eyes on the road. He was a fashion photographer and it was at that moment that I knew I had to get my self tanning shit together unless I wanted to continue fielding questions like that from people with a keen eye.
I’m in my 40’s now and I prefer men with failing vision but they’re not always so easy to find, what with Lasix and all.
I have tried just about every self tanner and self tanning method not under the sun.
I have naurally fair skin and dark hair and generally embrace that look, but if I get even the slightest inkling that I might have to be in a swimsuit at any point I launch a self tanning operation.
This summer was the first in several years that I found myself in that predicament. So many years, in fact, that I was a little overwhelmed by all the new options out there. I don’t like to spend 40-50 bucks on anything, and while I know that even less expensive tanners are in the $15-$30 range, I’d rather not blow a chunk of change on one product that may potentially not work for me.
Moving along, I’ve diligently used several different products the last few months with varying success. As anyone whose spent a summer chasing a faux tan knows, it’s kind of a full time job. A delicate balance of hair removal, exfoliation, sheet cleaning and, in the case of certain color guides, hiding indoors and praying there isn’t a fire.
That having been said, I’ve been mentally compiling a list of features my ideal tanner would have. For one, I’d like it to have skin-beneficial properties, because why not? I’m putting it on my skin after all. Also, I’d like a spray because as mentioned, I am very lazy and find this to be easiest. I’d like a slight tint, so I see where it goes and if I’ve missed a spot, but would prefer something subtle so I don’t have to choose between perishing in the flames or standing outside (with firemen) covered in dark green sludge if one of my neighbors leaves their fry daddy plugged in too long.
I had never heard of Hamptons Glow before, but this mist had everything I was dreaming of. When I happened upon it online, I of course came straight to you on MUA and discovered that apparently you hadn’t either. So I decided to take one for the the team, and for a change I’m glad I did.
Here’s the summary and grande finale:
THIS STUFF IS EXCELLENT. Here’s why:
It’s full of skin beneficial stuff – (ingredient list to follow below)
It provides a rich, even, natural tan IN ONE APPLICATION
Easy to use
Does not stain bathtub or sheets
Does not need to be washed off before going out in public
This left my skin soft and glowing. The bottle works well (nice even mist at all angles, no dripping) and there’s a good amount of product.
I had given my skin some time off while applying aha lotion and exfoliating in the shower, so I was pretty pale when I applied this last night. I was also exhausted so my technique was….lets say it was laissez faire. A lesser product would have left me looking like a ham that had been glazed by a drunk person. I just sprayed. No blending no rubbing. Dried lightning fast, and I woke up to an even, beautiful tan, WITH NO SELF TANNER ODOR!
Doesn’t break the bank, leaving me with money to waste on other things.
I’ve even got a before and after pic of my cankles to show how lovely the color is and how forgiving the formula is after one application. I’ll try to post it.
