I have been on a hunt for a good exfoliator since my teen years. I developed sensitive, combination, acne-prone skin during those years and my condition has not changed. Back then, I used to be able to use Neutrogena’s and other affordable drugstore exfoliators, but I can’t use them anymore.
I’ve moved towards higher end products and after many years of continuous searching, I’ve found a gentle exfoliator that works for me. Everyone’s skin is different, but if you have sensitive skin that tends to be on the drier end (i.e. peeling skin or patches), this might work for you. I am able to use this every other day and it makes my face so smooth. Also eases foundation application because my face isn’t as rough (I have dry patches due to my skin condition).
I don’t use it with water — I actually use it in conjunction with Josie Maran’s cleansing oil. I don’t need to dispense that much and there’s enough for the whole face. The powder doesn’t go everywhere and it stays where the oil pools on the center of my palm. I then proceed to rub it between my palms and transfer it to my face. I would have never thought bits ‘n pieces of argan shell would work, but it does what it’s supposed to do.
Some people have reported that it made their face red. Personally, my face is red often because I’m sensitive and flush easily. I also have slight rosacea, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and adult acne. I only rubbed the powder very lightly against my skin and it didn’t make it worse.
I’m also guessing another reason why it doesn’t irritate is because the scrub is very fine and gentle. Also doesn’t dry your face as badly as other scrubs. (Again, your mileage may vary.)
Unfortunately, this product is insanely expensive for my bank but I haven’t been able to find anything better and cheaper. I’ll be using this for now and it’s worth it since my skin’s finicky.
I’m surprised at the low amount of reviews, maybe because it’s not popular and overshadowed by other products such as Tatcha’s Rice Enzyme powder (which I’ve tried few years ago and didn’t do much for me, but I might have to revisit as my skin has changed).
Thought I’d contribute a review and hope that someone might find this useful. Do try a sample from Sephora if you can before purchasing.

I have very oily but sensitive/reactive skin, and this is a fantastic product for cleansing, exfoliating and spot treatment (combine some of the powder with water or manuka honey and leave on a zit and it calms down cystic acne and draws out regular ones). I also occasionally have bouts of sebhorreic dermatitis and this doesn’t aggravate that and helps clear it up. My skin is super soft and clear after using it and I’ve had no irritation at all. I’ve also used the Tatcha exfoliating powder, which is a great product, but I like this better. It’s not inexpensive but a little goes a long way and with the great results that I’ve had I will definitely repurchase again and again.
