I am always looking for new matte primers as I like to keep my oils at bay for as long as I can. I only apply primer to my T zone as that is where my oils produce, with my chin being the oiliest area. I paid £9 for this primer and as much as it’s silicone texture made my skin feel smooth, it did not mattify my face and keep my oils at bay any more than going without a primer. Granted the smoothness does make a lovely base for foundation. However, for keeping oils at bay it is not great.

I have read the reviews on how this product doesn’t prevent shine and it separates foundations but I decided to buy it and try it anyway.
What I didn’t expect was the runny gel like texture but when I applied it on my skin it felt like it absorbed into my skin quickly. I am actually surprised that this had reduced the shine on my T zone and my makeup stayed in place. I used my tinted moisturiser with setting powder but my skin stayed matte for many hours! I still have to try it with my foundations but at the moment it works with my go to tinted moisturiser and powder as I use this for every day makeup.

I find this doesn’t make my makeup last. My skin still gets oily an hour or two after putting it on. I do like that it makes my skin feel nice and soft, and it doesn’t give me acne. I wouldn’t buy again however, just because it doesn’t keep my make up in place

I’ve used two makeup primers in my life — e.l.f.’s Hydrating Primer and this, and both have been terrible. To echo pretty much every other review, this primer is the exact opposite of shine-killing. I put this on one morning after blotting and moisturizing and by the end of the day, my makeup had noticeably separated and was easily transferring when I touched my face. After a couple more days, it was pretty clear I was breaking out, too, after several months of relatively clear skin. I’m thinking silicone-based primers just don’t jive with my skin, but even so, I wouldn’t recommend this primer to anyone.

Gave this a shot despite the horrible reviews. I should have paid attention to them. What a terrible product. After 20 mins of applying makeup I am an oily mess.

I’m genuinely surprised to see such negative reviews of this! I personally really like it.
It’s a standard clear silicone primer that makes your skin feel really smooth. I find foundation applies really nicely over it.
As far as extending make up wear time, I do notice a difference when I use this versus no primer. It allows my make up to wear evenly, as opposed to no primer where my forehead would break down very quickly with oils and my cheeks appear dry (thank you combo skin). Instead this helps control the oiliness and the breakdown of foundation, and also diminishes the dryness of other areas.

This did absolutely nothing. I’m a big fan of using a new product on half of my face so that I can compare any differences and there was no difference at all. However, I really like Nyx BB cream and noticed it diminishes shine/oil in my T-zone quite a bit.

My skin isn’t very oily at the worst of times so from my point of view this isn’t all that bad. It feels nice on the skin, like velvety feeling upon first application. However, after it’s been on my skin for about 10 minutes I can’t really feel/see effects anymore, and it’s almost like it just disappears off your skin very fast. It didn’t help mattify my face much nor did it make me oilier so for that reason I wouldn’t purchase again as it doesn’t do much and for the price (£11 GBP, more money than a lot of NYX cosmetics) it isn’t really worth it.

I’ll start with the end result and work back from there.
I go to Ulta to return the NYX Shine Killer primer that I had purchased the week before. The clerk asked, “Why are you returning this product?” I respond, “Because it should be called Shine Adder, not Shine Killer.” She said I wasn’t the first person who’d told her, in not so many words, the same thing.
When I first put it on, I had low hopes, given how SLICK my skin felt immediately after I applied it. Like way, way slick. I’m a naturally oily, oily, oily faced person, so I already felt a little deflated.
Then I put my concealer and foundation on, and had to reeeeally work with my foundation brush to get rid of the swirly marks from my makeup not sticking to the NYX Shine Killer.
I finally got it to look halfway decent in my bathroom mirror. I left my house and drove to my local breakfast place to grab something to eat. Before I hopped out of the car, I looked in my rearview mirror and was HORRIFIED by my face in daylight. My face looked like someone had smeared cake flour and Crisco all over my skin. My nose looked actively WET.
It was so bad – I actually turned my car around and drove back home and washed my face and put my makeup back on all over again. Yes, it was THAT bad.

This is not a terrible product in my opinion, but not great either. I didn’t see any real mattifying results. I like the texture (smooth, silicone) and it didn’t clog my pores. I don’t think it helped much in prolonging my makeup wear though. When I would use it, my foundation was patchy by the end of the day. I tried it with several foundations and it never seemed to give great results. I think there are better versions of this product at the drugstore!
