My go-to powder is the $2 ELF prime and stay powder. It’s super cheap and does the job for me. I do get super shiny throughout the day, so it doesn’t control oil – I normally blot and reapply, but for the price, I don’t mind. I wouldn’t consider my shine “oils” — more natural dehydration from BP gel that I wear daily.
This was my second elf+ product to try— Not impressed. For the $6 amount, you are getting the same amount of tiny product —- 0.18 oz. (5g) — you get for the $2 prime and stay powder. So it’s pricey.
Does it work?
No.
Not any better than the $2 prime and stay powder I use daily (or ELF’s Perfect finish HD pressed powder which is the same price and I think you get more – it’s larger). I’ve applied this to just my super oily parts (nose) and I don’t notice a difference at all. The only thing I DO notice, is that this leaves a very strong WHITE cast when you apply it. The prime and stay at least comes in skin tone shades. This powder only comes in translucent, and it’s not. It’s straight up white. It goes away, but on my nose, it looks white and I’m using a light hand. Cannot imagine using this if you were a light-medium to dark skin tone. It would be white. In the prime and stay – I use the “sheer’ shade and that’s actually more translucent on me.
Perhaps this would work better using a damp sponge for application over trouble spots, but again – it’s going to come off straight-up white (and even more so than using a light dusting with a brush).
Would not repurchase. For the price, you could easily buy three prime and stay powders and not look like a ghost. Both contain almost the same ingredients (and have Ethylhexyl Palmitate — which can cause some folks skin issues — I’m fine if this ingredient is in powder form) but I like that this one has kaolin and Camellia Japonica Seed Oil (non-comedogenic) so I’m keeping it at three lippies (instead of 2) but the packaging is the super cheap snap lid which usually break easily so keeping that low on lippies. I think they could have put it in a nicer component and gave you more product for the $$$. If you drop this at all – it will be shatter your powder.
