Wow I had a very different experience with this product compared to the previous reviewer! I happen to really like this MMU (I bought the loose mineral powder). For me, this is comparable to Everyday Minerals (except for the number of ingredients) and I like it more than Maybelline’s equivalent. I only bought this because I was desperate for a warmer shade of makeup and living in Australia, I have to wait 2 weeks for an order of EM to arrive. I picked this up in Ivory for just under AUD$10 (bargain!).
SHADE: This is quite dark for an Ivory in my opinion but it seems to work ok on me (I probably would not use it in winter).Mineral makeup tends to be quite forgiving. This is a nice golden-based shade. This won’t work if you are cool toned.
APPLICATION: I use my Everyday Minerals brushes with this product and get great results. I really do believe that with MMU, you need good brushes. I’ve used this product dry with a kabuki and also tried it with a damp flat top brush. In both instances I got a great result.
FINISH: Matte. I have noticed no shimmer or “glow” to this product. Good, layerable coverage. With primer, this lasts all day too.
PACKAGING: Decent sized jar with sifter. The lid is the perfect size to decant the product into and swirl your brush in. The jar is about the same size as Maybelline’s. There is no brush included and I’d say that’s a good thing.
Verdict? I like it but do prefer Everyday Minerals. I would definitely re-purchase this in a pinch though. This would probably suit Aussie girls who are wanting to get started with MMU and don’t want to spend a lot. EDIT JAN ’09: I am actually wearing this a lot more than EM – it has better staying power. I only wish that this came in a lighter shade!

Savvy by DB is a cheap range of cosmetics available from Priceline in Australia. They have recently revamped their makeup and included some fake mineral products. I say fake because if you look at the ingredients list you will find that they have a lot of added ingredients and contain bismuth oxychloride which makes some people itchy. This is a review for both the Mineral Blend Loose Powder and the Mineral Blend Pressed Powder. Both come in four colours, Ivory, Beige, Cream Beige and Tan. All colours except for the Ivory are orange based. With both the pressed and loose powders, your face must be perfectly dry before you put them on or they will immediately turn orange and go on very patchy. In addition they show up every line and make pores look huge. The pressed mineral powder goes on thick and cakey and looks incredibly obvious. Absolutely horrible. Cost is $9.95 for both pressed and loose.
However please don’t let this turn you off the rest of the range. Their lipsticks, liners and lipglosses are all very nice – creamy non drying formulas, a nice range of colours and decent lasting properties, starting from $4.95 for the lipsticks up to $9.95 for the lip colour and lipliner duo’s. Their eye liners are good value and come in both automatic liners and normal pencils. Once again a nice range of colours. Their eyeshadows last most of the day and are well pigmented and the rest of the foundation and powder range are fairly decent. Their ordinary pressed powder is finely milled and very creamy, possibly too creamy for someone with oily skin, with decent coverage and comes in a larger range of colours than the mineral blends. The liquid foundation contains sunscreen and is equivalent to Covergirl Clean foundation in coverage and lasting qualities. The stick foundation is a touch too oily and tends to slide off all but the driest skin types. Their pressed blushs are very nice, but their bronzers are too orange. I have not tried the Mineral Blend loose blushs or their mascaras. All in all, it’s a pity they have jumped on the mineral bandwagon and come up with such crap, considering that the rest of their range is pretty good.
