Savita is a beautiful purple polish from the Matte Velvet collection that was originally released in 2009 and then re released for 2014. I was fortunate to win this in a giveaway from The Silver Nail blog. I did end up picking up some of the others from this collection on line as well. They have since been discontinued but can still be found online at Amazon and other vendors and individual sellers. I actually wore this one all week and really loved the color on my fair skintone. The polish is a violet purple and leans blue but is filled with beautiful red plum shimmers that are evident in the sunshine if you top coat this polish. When it dried down to a matte finish the gorgeous shimmers and sparkles get lost and muddied, so I had to top coat this and bring out it’s full beauty. The formula on this is wonderful and so easy to work with. It applies evenly, smoothly, and is easy to work without patchiness, flooding, pooling, or running. It did not drag or cause bald patches. This was beautifully opaque in just 2 coats. I did use a protective protein based basecoat as usual. This dries down with no brush strokes and has a lovely finish when matte. It looks sort of velvety and like suede. I thought this was going to be too dark for my skintone, but it actually is complimentary on my lighter tone. It wasn’t harsh or stark at all and I think the plum shimmers warm this one up. Like I said, indoors or matted out, the shimmers are hidden, but get this baby top coated with a shiny finish and out in the sunshine, and BAM! there they are dancing in the light and giving this a warm glow. Sadly I didn’t get all of this collection and I only have 4. I did purchase the others directly from Zoya but missed out on 2 of these from the set. I really love this polish and I enjoyed wearing it all week. Wear time was great at 5 days with no chipping, minimal tip wear, no fading, and best of all, no staining upon removal! This came off so easily and it didn’t leave even the tiniest of stains or blue on my cuticles or nails at all. That is quite impressive considering most blues and blue violets are notorious for leaving bad stains. This was an outstanding polish and I was sad to take it off, but manicures don’t last forever and it was time to do a new one. It was still going strong though and I could have probably worn it a few more days. I just change my mani’s when I have a day off and today is mani change day. I really love this beautiful polish!

First off, I’ll just tell you I’m not a fan of mattes. Did I know that before I bought this polish, no, I’m not a masochist.
Anyway, I’ve worn this polish twice: the first time to try the whole matte concept out (hated it), the second to see if I could convince myself to like it…..Didn’t work. Since you’re not supposed to use a b/c or t/c (unless you don’t want it to be matte, then what’s the point anyway?), Savita comes off and chips super easy. No, they’re not supposed to be long-wearing, but it’s just another complaint about the formula.
I usually get compliments on my polishes, but with Savita, I got “oh, well that’s *interesting*” from a few people, and all around dislike from others. Eeek, not good.
Wouldn’t repurchase.

This polish is part of Zoya’s MatteVelvet collection. This is a beautiful deep purple with red and gold shimmer with a matte finish. The photo above looks a bit brighter than it does in person. I tried capturing it the best I could. Just picture a deep royal purple with a velvet texture. I think this deep purple shade looks good on any skin tone. For reference, I’m NC40.
Normally, one wouldn’t wear a base coat with matte polishes, but I just can’t do that to my nails. Savita on top of a base coat is extremely streaky, but by the second coat the streaks were gone. A quick hand at applying matte polishes is a must as they tend to dry faster than traditional polishes. You also have to apply it smoothly so there is minimal visible bumps meaning at least three to four strokes per nail per coat. Matte polishes are not forgiving when it comes to self-leveling.
I took away a lippie because of its short life span on the nails. It chipped within three days. Then again, it’s pretty standard for most matte polishes. With daily activity, matte polishes naturally loose their matte effect. But because it is such a pretty color, I touched it up and added a top coat, which brought out the shimmer. It then lasted more than two days. Despite its lasting power, I absolutely love this shade of purple. This is a gorgeous polish on short or medium nails for the fall. The name of the collection suits the finish as it has a velvety matte finish. I’m absolutely in love with these finishes. I would definitely purchase this again even if matte polishes go out of style because there’s always shiny top coats to change the effect.
