If I could give it zero stars, I would. This nail polish is terrible. I picked it up for Halloween in Devilishly Darling – a very dark red but didn’t use till today. It has an awful smell, like melting plastic. Despite the dark color, it doesn’t get opaque even after applying three coats; it stays very streaky. When I realized that I couldn’t make it look presentable and took it off, my nails got stained. I didn’t use the base, but the polish was on my nails for less than 10 minutes. Don’t buy it. Pretty much everything on the market is better than this.

Meet Me Downtown is a pretty deep berry plum lustre that I found at my local CVS for 2/$5. I picked up 2 to try them out. I like the color and I like the polish, but I don’t care much for the brush. The polish is decent and on the thicker side which can be harder to apply but the real problem with this one is that little brush. The bristles feel flexible enough and it seems to be soft and looks okay but when you apply polish it doesn’t fan out right and it leaves uneven edges that need clean up and it isn’t quite what I hoped for. It does the job and it isn’t terrible but it could be improved upon. Maybe I simply got a flawed one, I don’t know. It worked, but I wish it were a little better. The polish is pretty good and I’ve had my mani on for 5 days now with no chips and only minimal normal tip wear. As always, I prep my nails with a protective basecoat and finish with a clear fast drying topcoat such as Seche Vite. I am really impressed with how long this has lasted for a $2.50 polish. The color is really pretty and it’s deep and rich and went on in two coats for full opacity. I did have to work with the tips some as this performed like a jelly and needed a little more right at the free edges. It’s a nice polish and I like the way it looks on me and looks like a cranberry from afar but it actually has a magenta purple flash and it is more of a red plum than a red. It’s a great holiday shade and I wore it for Christmas but it would be appropriate for any time of year with the classic red berry shade. I like the lustre effect and it has a depth to it sort of like a jelly but not as deep if that makes any sense. It’s very pretty and I will wear it again. I don’t like that it requires a little clean up but that is a minor issue (and it was just a very little to get that clean edge I like) and the polish looks good and wears fine. The little bottles are cute with that dotted cap and they are easy to find as that lid stands out from the others in my drawer so I like that. Decent drugstore product for the price.
