On a Silver Platter was released a couple of years ago for a limited edition collection. I was doing a “Swatch with Stacey” session as I call it from PolishedWays a YouTuber, and this was the polish she was swatching. I remembered I had this and it looked like the perfect blingy holiday polish so I pulled this from my untrieds and put it on. O…M…G…this is one stunner of a polish. Just wow. This one comes to life out of the bottle and has a 3 dimensional textured look. The formula on this is really nice and the glitter dispersion is generous and fairly even with a brush swipe. This is a glitter that does not require the dab and spread method, no, you can just paint this on like a regular polish. I did two coats of this and have had it on for almost a week now. I really don’t want to take this off. I am still not tired of looking at it! The wear time has been good and although it does show some slight tip wear that is completely normal after 5 days of work and life. I have had no chipping and no fading. I am so enamored by this bewitching beauty. This looks like a light golden base (not silver) maybe they were going for a tarnished silver look, and it has small holo glitter and microglitters suspended in a silvery golden base metallic polish. Now, this is how to mix a metallic with a glitter and end up with a winning combo. The base does not obscure the beautiful glitters bits and they lay flat on top of the base color and send sparks of silver/royal blue/cerulean lights out when you move your hands. This is such a beautiful polish and it’s everything I could ever ask of a glitter, it’s holographic, it’s eye catching, it dances in the light, it wears well, applies beautifully, and it’s fun to look at. This looks like gems on your nails. Sooo pretty. I really enjoy wearing this one. As with any glitter polish, removal requires some time and patience but it doesn’t require scraping, cursing, or picking at the glitters to get them back off. As always, I used a protein enriched base coat to protect and strengthen my natural nails, 2 coats of this colored polish, and a coat of Seche Vite to set it and quick dry and give it a smooth finish. I did use a base color of Sinful Colors Supernova beneath this to minimize the coats of this needed for the desired result from three down to two, thus leaving more of this precious lacquer for another beautiful mani.

SUCH a pretty, shimmery color. It doesn’t require a super precise application which is refreshing. It looks great with either two or three coats.

I picked this beauty up at Marshall’s for $3.99, a great price for an Essie polish. I was quite happy to find this as I had seen pictures on the NB and it looked quite lovely.
In the bottle this polish looks really pretty, but that pales in comparison to how it looks once applied. The glitter is in a golden base though in the bottle it actually looks more silver. There are various sizes and colors of glitter reflected in various lights. The colors include blue, pink, and green. It really does look like your fingernails are jewel encrusted.
It applied very easily and the glitter dispersed evenly with every coat. The texture was nice and it applied without bubbling or pulling. It took 3 coats to be fully opquae but I like the look. It would also make a great glittery topper over another polish.
I always use two top coats, one regular to prevent shrinkage and then SV. With the application of these two top coats it covered the glitter and the surface of my nails was smooth. I can’t speak to how quickly it dries as SV is a QDTC.
Over the years I have developed a fondness and appreciation for Essie polishes and this polish just reinforces my love of Essie. I would repurchase if I ever used the whole bottle and will definitely continue to purchase Essie polishes.

This polish is from Essie’s 2013 Encrusted Treasures holiday collection. While some of them are either boring or poorly executed, On A SIlver Platter is–in my opinion–the best polish in the collection. First of all, even before you put it on, it looks incredible in the bottle. The base is a strong pale gold shimmer, which becomes more yellow almost glows in certain angles. The glitters come in two different sizes, the tiny ones are probably a quarter of the size of the large ones. They are indigo colored, and holographic, glimmering and adding to the glow of the shimmer. At the same time, they aren’t too flashy. Overall, the effect is very elegant without being boring.
Now, you can wear this polish on its own, by applying at least two coats. It will be nice, but because the shimmer is pretty heavy, it will take away the holographic qualities of the glitters. Instead, I would recommend putting on a coat of your favorite pale gold polish (OPI Glitzerland and Orly Luxe are good examples). Wait until it’s set, and then put on a coat of this polish. You can go heavy or light on this layer, either way it’ll look fantastic. And then…don’t put on a top coat. The shine from the top coat will make the polish loose some of those qualities that make it look like a fancy jewel. The glitter will tend to embed itself somewhat into whatever other polish you put underneath, so it won’t snag or otherwise annoy you.
Another great quality of this polish is that it’s quick-drying. So if you use over another polish, it will tend to help that one dry quicker. It also glides quite easily over the nail and it won’t clump up because it’s drying too quickly either. It will chip a bit if you don’t use a good base coat, however, most of it will be minor and easily be covered again. Interestingly, if you do dent or otherwise damage the polish before it dries, it’ll tend to add to the ‘antique’ look this polish will give your nails.
This polish is supposed to cost ~$10, but you can easily get it online for almost half of that. Now, Sephora has a collection called “Sparklers” that has a dupe of this color called “Law of Attraction”, as well as two others that seem to be the same except with pink and green glitters. I haven’t used any of those polishes, but they are $12.50 for roughly the same amount (maybe even less!). There also aren’t any formula issues with the Essie to consider the Sephora version as an alternative. So, as if it wasn’t obvious as this point, I would definitely recommend giving this polish a try. It ticks all the marks, and for ~$6, you can’t go wrong.
