This is from the OPI Nutcracker Collection, which came out in late 2018. It’s a very dark polish, a blackened red that doesn’t quite go into “might as well be black” because it’s got some deep, hidden red shimmer that pulls it back from the brink. In bright light, the red shimmer is visible, but most of the time it just lies in wait, flashing occasionally, but mostly subdued.
Formula is nice, pretty standard for an OPI shimmer. Normal wear, all as you would expect from OPI.
Unfortunately for me, this is a very near dupe of OPI Midnight in Moscow, which I already had. The formula is different, but when you have two coats of each, they’re so similar as to be almost indistinguishable. Midnight in Moscow is, to my eye, just slightly less shimmery and very slightly more brown, where Black to Reality is just slightly more clearly red, but honestly, I can only tell that because I went to a lot of effort to look for differences. For all practical purposes, you could wear Black to Reality and Midnight in Moscow on different fingers at the same time and nobody would notice or be able to tell.
So if you don’t have Midnight in Moscow, this is an OPI polish that is super, super close and, IMHO, slightly prettier with a bit more prominent flash. And if you already have Midnight in Moscow, you won’t need this polish unless you love blackened red shimmers so much you really, really want another.
