Fire Fox is still easy to find at low prices from eBay and Amazon, so I thought that I’d add my two cents here; it is a pink-tinged poppy red, with a satin [in between matte and creme] finish. A lovely suits-all-skintones, all-ages, all-seasons, all-occasions colour, which has a retro feel to it.
The first coat of the polish applies smoothly and covers the nail completely, but the formula is on the sheer side so it takes three coats to build the opaqueness fully, as it’s a curious mix of a satin and a jelly – if you have longer nails, then there will still be a hint of vnl. The formula dries quickly to a smooth finish, I don’t mind going to three coats. The shade doesn’t stain my nails [I always use a basecoat though], and the polish wears as well as pricier brands like Nails inc, OPI , and Essie, which is a huge plus.

I actually really like this. I recently received this in a swap, I don’t even know if Revlon makes this particular color/formula anymore (‘matte suede’). This color is a bright, cherry red, with a hint of (red?) shimmer. The shimmer is so fine, its hard to tell the color, but it is not a flat, matte shade. The finish, as others have described, is almost like a ‘satin’. Its not truly matte, but there is no shine to it. I almost never wear bright shades (much preferring deep, dark purples, reds, browns & greys). I like that this is not shiny; its a bright shade I feel comfortable wearing. The consistency of the polish is good, neither too thick nor too thin, and its opaque in 2 coats. It actually dries pretty quickly. I don’t wear a top coat, and I get about 2 days before I notice some tip-wear. I usually apply a touch-up coat every other day, getting this to last about a week on me. I get annoyed by the tip wear, just because there is such a contrast between this color/texture and my natural nail that I think it looks bad & unkempt (more so than with a polish with a shiny finish. Go figure.) This is a nice, bright fun summer color that is a little out of my comfort-zone, yet I’m really enjoying wearing it. I would repurchase should I ever have the need, and it was still available.

Haha, ironically I’m the only thus far who likes this! It’s the best red I’ve found for me.
Ok, so co-workers bought this for me a couple of years ago. I was underwhelmed by looking at it and was tempted to go to CVS and exchange it but decided to give it a try. It’s a lovely blue based, red, red. Very sexy and classic. Two coats work a dream. I am indifferent about the shimmer and must admit it looks dull until I put on my seche vite top coat, so top coat is a MUST, but the top a brings out the life to the color. I would recommend.
As I didn’t purchase it so I was unaware it was part of a “matte” range. This is by no means matte, but as I was looking for a matte color I’m happy.

Totally disappointing. Even after 3 coats you could still see my nail underneath, and as other reviews have noted this isn’t matte (I’d call it a “satin” personally). I also have Ruby Ribbon (the darker red) from this release and I like it a lot more, even though if you want it to be truly matte you need to use a matte t/c.

I thought a suede in-your-face red would be so awesome. And it was, for a few hours. My nails were so bright they were like a cartoon character’s nails. But after a few hours this color really started to annoy me. I wanted it OFF. I wanted it off so bad I gave myself a mannequin hands manicure that night to ease my Fire Fox anxieties. It looks awesome at first but as it starts to wear it just looks strange and dirty.
The coverage was amazing, two coats gave a vibrant, faithful reproduction of the color as it looks in the bottle. I also added a coat of Essie Matte About You to make it more matte. However I don’t think Revlon is being misleading because this is a Suede, not a true Matte. The next time I wear this it’s getting topped with regular base coat so it doesn’t matter.

This is from the new holiday (?) collection. What makes them call this matte is beyond me. The texture is more like shiny rubber. Just odd, like those weird peel-off nail colors from eons ago. Anyway, the red is actually pretty, sort of fire engine red. I put a coat of Icing’s matte polish over it and now it’s truly matte. Still doesn’t blow my mind but it’s nice. But I shouldn’t have to mattify it myself if they are calling it matte. I could have achieved this look with one of the other 14000 reds in my nail polish collection. I will add that I only needed one coat for opacity. Plus it was dirt cheap during the sale and after my coupons.
