This is more of a review of the entire Broadway Nails line (Dollar General brand nail polish, but I chose the Lightning Speed polish for this review. All I can say is WOW. I quit painting my nails for years because I was sick of buying nail polish and having it chip off 10 minutes after drying, so I took a chance on a bottle of Broadway Nails Lightning Quick (in the shade “Tint Effect”) because I liked the color, and hey, it was only a couple dollars.
Stuff worked better than pretty much any other nail polish I’d ever used, up to and including some more expensive stuff. Sure, it still will chip eventually, but not as easily as other brands I’ve tried. The color is solid and opaque and is true to the color you see in the bottle. All the Broadway Nails polishes seem to dry pretty quickly too, not just the ones specifically marked as “Lightning Speed.” I’ve also tried the Matte Strong polishes, the Gel Strong ones, some other Lightning Quick ones, and the regular high shine ones and every single one worked beautifully. As I type, I’m sitting here with a Broadway Nails Matte Strong color on my nails. This is some of the only nail polish I’ve ever tried that didn’t always warrant a second coat, it’s that opaque.
As far as the drying, it definitely dries FAST. Before, I’d have to sit there fanning my hands trying to make my nails dry enough to apply a second coat (and I’d inevitably smear the paint, somehow). With this stuff, I paint my left hand, and by the time I get done with the right one, the left hand is ready for a second coat. I can run my fingers over the tops of my freshly painted nails and get absolutely no smearing, cracking, or resistance. The Matte Strong polishes don’t even need topcoat and they actually do dry matte.
These polishes are hidden gems. I never in a million years would have gone to the dollar store for decent quality nail polish, but there you have it. They offer loads of colors in both matte and shiny – after using that first bottle, I immediately went back and bought like six or seven more colors and many more after that in subsequent visits. They offer quite a few neutral/nude shades in the Lightning Quick line and there are plenty of vibrant colors like neon orange and lime green too. I can honestly say that Dollar General’s nail polish rack single-handedly got me back into polishing my nails. I don’t know if it’s salon quality because I’ve never been to a nail salon, but it’s a wonderful product nonetheless, especially for the price.
