Life Preserver is originally from the Anchor’s Away spring 2011 collection, and it was added to the China Glaze core line. China Glaze retired this shade at the beginning of the year, so right now it is still widely available for as little as £4 – but when it’s gone, it’s gone.
I’m not too sure how to describe Life Preserver as it seems to change depending on the lighting; most of the time I’d say that it’s a slightly dusty orange with a twist of peach in, other times I’d class it as an autumnal shade of rich brown-based burnt orange, but then sometimes I look at it on my nails and think that there’s a bit of a red undertone too, so it’s a perfect all-year-wear shade to have in my collection. I’d class the formula as a crelly [caught between a jelly and a creme], as it is sheer and slightly squishy in appearance.
I think that the quality of China Glaze polishes have turned rather inconsistent over the last few years, but Life Preserver is a great example of when they get it right they’re awesome – in fact Life Preserver has one of the best formulas out of all the China Glaze polishes that I own. On the first coat the polish completely covers the nail evenly with no streaks. I can see nail line through the slightly squishy colour, but I think that just wearing the one coat is perfectly fine under a glitter or if you’re in a rush. Whilst two coats still leaves some VNL, it is still something that I prefer doing for an every-day mani. Three coats is largely opaque.

I love this color!! It definitely comes out brighter compared to the bottle. On my nails, it’s a gorgeous warm orange red color. It looks like a warm version of Essie’s meet me at sunset, which is a bright red orange color, and another fave of mines. Formula for “life preserver” is perfect; not too thin nor too thick. Color was opaque in the first coat but I always apply my usually two and then top off with seche vite. Definitely would repurchase this product! 🙂

Bought it because I liked the muted, terra cotta-like orange. Turned out way brighter than I thought. One coat showed the nail line but was still pretty bright. Fun for summer, but I don’t think warm bright colors look good on me.

I bought this when I was looking for a cantaloupe/coral/orange-y summer shade, and this shade by China Glaze looked like what I wanted from what I could see in the bottle – it is a slightly dusty peachy orange color in the bottle. I was somewhat surprised that it ended up being significantly brighter on my nails. When I applied two coats of it, it had the barest hint of dustiness, and overall it was a fairly bright, peachy orange. It’s hard to describe – it doesn’t look like a traffic cone color of orange (it’s not neon), so it’s easier to wear than a really bright orange. The formula was great (two coats was perfect and it wasn’t streaky at all), and my nails looked beautiful when I used Seche Vite as a top coat. I want to add a glitter layer the next time I use it. Overall I think this is a great shade for the summer, or for when you wish it was summer.

I love this color! Its the perfect orange! It goes so well with my skin tone (medium with yellow undertones). Its a beautiful dusty orange, not bright, kind of a Halloween orange lol. Has a very glossy finish, has that wet look to it which i love. I cant stop staring at my nails lol. Its a runny formula but it is not streaky and its almost completely opaque in one coat, so two coats will definitely do the job. Drys fast and very little chipping. I think this is a great color, wish it wasnt LE cause i can see my self repurchasing. 🙂

I love this! I had to get it because of the name, even though this particular orange isn’t that great on my skin tone. It applies nicely with 2 coats. Great polish in my opinion.

This thick formula was a bit of a challenge to apply. The end result looked like if Essie’s Vermillionaire and Chubby Cheeks had a nail polish baby. While I’m still smitten with this orange (with hints of chocolate/black) I was hoping for something a little bit more jellyish.

In the bottle this looks like a greyed out dull orange but its really alot brighter when worn which wasnt expected. I really love the colour but im not sure i can pull it off so im not sure I would buy it again. However there is no other colour like it that ive seen. It would probably a colour best suited in summer. The formulas great as always with china glaze nail polishes.

This color is limited edition and arrived with the Anchors Away collection. This color swatches out pretty bright way brighter than in the bottle. It looks like a greyed out orange in the bottle so it may change from skintone to skintone. It applied evenly in two thin coats. Won’t purchase again because this paticular orange doesn’t look good on me.
