I have had this a while but never used it til today, coz its meant to only last 24hrs.. I read on a blog that topcoat doesn’t change the polish.. IT DOES! if you topcoat it, it loses its mirror shine..alot! (it says not to topcoat it on the packaging) and I also read its exactly like Essie’s no place like chrome, it isn’t.. OPI has more of a mirror effect..which is what I have been looking for. I have the mirror metallics collection from Essie, and although I love them heaps, none of them compare to this..the mirror shine/effect is just way better! don’t know how long it lasts yet..i will see..
EDIT: So it lasted a little over 24hrs..Roughly 30hrs later I had MAJOR tip wear and chips and removed it..

I have been wanting this type of nail polish for ages, but was unable to find it… until now! I love silver polishes, and have many of them. But they are either too grainy or not the right shade. I wanted Essie No Place Like Chrome, but didn’t jump on it fast enough. I fell for Maybelline Mirror Image, but that’s Unicorn Pee in the nail polish world (hard to find). So when this was pictured on a nail polish blog, I googled it and got the nail polish and the base for a very nice price on ebay.
It’s very important to have healthy nails with no bigger flaws, because chrome polishes are kind of runny and thin in the consistency, and will make any bump or grind more visible than they were to begin with. So buff your nails and apply this base, let the base become sticky, then apply the nail polish. I use two coats, and let it dry for a good 10 – 15 minutes before I do anything with my hands. Chrome polishes scratch easily, but the sad thing about them, is that they seldom handle top coats well. The packaging for this product even says that the polish is only meant for one night occasions, and that you should not apply top coat. Which I totally agree on – I hit the town with this thing on and is meet by oh’s and ah’s from people. But I wake up the morning with scratches and peels and have to remove and re-apply to get the same fabulous effect.
It’s a bit of a bummer that you can’t make it flawless for a good 2 – 3 days like with a regular polish paired with a decent top coat, but I guess that’s the sacrifice you have to make to get that kind of effect on the nails. This may not look that much of a big deal when you wear it inside in a dim light, but it looks great outside. It reflects the light in an almost white way, making it look like a mirror.
All in all I highly recommend this polish. It has this futuristic look, and works for all kinds of styles since the color is neutral and sophisticated, yet has a cool edge to it. Worth the money, and the only draw back is the short longevity.

I love this polish! It definitely works if you apply it as it says to.

This is from the new Gwen Stephanie collection. The color is the silver chrome style (think Minx) for $9.00 you get the Chrome polish plus a base (Lay down that base) to use exclusively with this polish. And I will tell you now use this puppy because the polish will not adhere properly with out it.
I can tell you right now that there will very few “luke warm” feelings about this product. I think people will either love it to death or HATE it. People who use and love the Minx product will probably hate the staying power of this. Personally I have problems using the stick on polish. It’s me so this was the other alternative because I love the look. Some of us oldies will remember the Chromes Sally Hansen made popular years back. This reminds me exactly of those. There was a very limited staying power with them and this one is no exception. The package says 24 hour wear and that’s what you get. You cannot put a top coat on this or it ruins the mirror shine. The next day I had nicks and quite a bit of wear off on different nails. I added a little more polish and did make it last through the 2nd day but adding more than that would cause the product to peel off.
With this product you do get a VERY small bottle of “lay down the base” it applies pretty well in one coat so I did not need to put down a 2nd coat. As of right now they are not selling this in a bigger bottle separately but I hope it will last as long as the polish lasts. I used 1 coat of Chrome it went on my nails thick enough I did not need a 2nd coat. HOWEVER, you need to let this thoroughly dry and I’m talking a good 10 minutes. or you will get nicks pulls etc. Also if your nails have any imperfections, this being a chrome is going to pick it up. Buff them out gently don’t make you nails too slick or this will not stick.
Now it sounds like I’m thumbs downing the product. No actually I love it for what it is. A fun color that I know is only going to make it one night (like nail caviar) It looks very cool when it’s on and I wore it with black and it popped awesomely. I think I will buy a 2nd bottle because it is limited edition but I know I’m going to use it up. If you are looking for something fun and are up for the challenge and understand this takes some doing and you can’t slap it on and go, I think you’ll love it.
