Girly Grunge is from the fall 2017 collection, that uses popular polish shades from the nineties and gives them an update. It is a unique-to-me lilac tinged silvery dove-grey shade, with a metallic finish.
For a metallic formula, it is easy to work with; it is a one coater (though I do recommend two coats for a better wear time), and most of the brush-strokes fade as the polish dries – though the odd one remains, so I’ve removed a lippie. The formula is neither too thick or too thin, has great pigmentation, it is smooth, even and non-streaky to apply, it dries quickly, and I’ve not experienced any staining [I always wear a basecoat]. In general nail polishes will last me anywhere between two to four days with only minimal wear. But as I’m a self powered wheelchair user I’m tough on my hands and am always catching my nails, so I can’t really speak for how long lasting the formula is overall.

Girly Grunge is such a unique shade! It is a metallic polish which is an even mixture of lavender and silver. It is absolutely gorgeous, and unlike any colour I own. It is definitely a unique shade from a mainstream brand like Essie. I believe this would suit all skintones, and be especially flattering on those with cool undertones. The formula was OK. It was fully opaque in two coats, and applies easily without bald patches. However, it does have a brush-strokey finish, which I personally find annoying. It self-levels some, but there will still be some visible brush strokes. You definitely need to apply this carefully. You need to have a steady hand and apply in straight lines. Any wonky strokes will show up on the nail. This is my only real issue with this polish. It wears extremely well, lasting 6 days without chips or tipwear, even when I am hard on my hands. Honestly I was stunned by the wear time! I do like this shade a lot and will continue to wear it, despite the brush strokes. It is a gorgeous shade!

This is a true chrome and the lilac color is gorgeous and quite unique. I don’t recall seeing a dupe and I’ve gotten many compliments on it. It’s so pretty that I can forgive the thin formula, which leads to the random visible brush stroke. It also chipped in three days, even with Seche Clear and Seche Vite.
It’s definitely a 5 on color for me, but a 2.5/3 on formula. Really, Essie, fix this issue – especially since you’ve raised your prices!
