I’ve typically had high hopes and disappointing experiences with Essie. Beautiful, vibrant colors in the bottle, but thin polish requiring multiple coats and easily chipping when I paint it on. However, Essie Geranium is a color that paints on bright, highly pigmented, and opaque on the first coat. It is a beautiful orange red that doesn’t look shocking or ill fitting on my warm toned, pale hands. I should say I’m new to nail polish and it’s a color that goes on fairly even, good for a novice.

Even though I gave it a 4, I honestly wouldn’t buy it again–it’s not completely opaque! Maybe I prefer creamy colors, and I think Geranium is more of a gel, but you could see the difference in shade where my fingernails grow past my fingertips if that makes sense. Geranium is a gorgeous vibrant color, and I understand why people say it makes them happy, but in that case, I prefer Snap Happy. Snap Happy is also an orange red, but its creamy and opaque and frankly it just looks like a more expensive, higher quality version or Geranium. I would only wear Geranium if Snap Happy weren’t available.

Geranium is my most recent Essie purchase! I have to say, Essie polishes are my favorite out of them all. I’ve been getting my nails professionally done for many years and tried various different salon quality polishes. I am very prone to chips no matter what base/top coat is used. However with Essie, my manicures seem to last the longest. Geranium is a rich vibrant orange based red. The name suits this polish perfectly! This shade brings me back to being a kid and living back at home where my mother had a yard full of geraniums. I have skin that looks terrible with any type of blue based red cosmetic so I tend to look for coral or orange reds. Geranium is by far my favorite and looks amazing against my NC40 skin. Now that I’m older, I don’t particularly care for those crazy nail art or glitter type polishes so I stick to very low shimmer or just plain cream shades. Geranium has no shimmer and it doesn’t need any. The color is bright enough to stand on its own.
