Do not like the way Essie polishes are so flat. This looked like an awesome color in the bottle… I had to try this polish.. it’s just the same flat dingy purple creme that Essie has already done a 100 times. And I dislike the tiny glitter specs you can hardly see.. why bother putting them in there.

Essie describes this polish as “purple with a green shimmer” and as far as the polish in the bottle goes, that is correct. On the nail however it’s a different story. It applied smoothly in two easy coats but there is no shimmer. ..well there is if you look very closely (husband couldn’t see it!), in a very bright light – so basically it’s just a dark purple polish. Very disappointed Essie, I had such high hopes with this one 🙁

Not only will I not by this shade again, I will likely take it off today and toss it out. The formula, like too many Essie polishes nowadays, was thin and a mess to apply. While supposedly a duochrome, you can only see the teal sheen in the bottle. At my relatively bright desk, my nails basically look black. By shining a flashlight directly onto my nails, you can see that the polish is flat, dark purple with an almost imperceptible green dust.
It has been a long time since I’ve disliked a polish this much.

Dressed To The Nineties is from the fall 2017 collection, that has just been released. It is a deep blue-tinged purple creme shade, that is filled with fine green shimmer.
I’ve avoided buying any new Essie polishes as I’ve found them to be a inconsistent brand, but recently they’ve been really good, and this has another fantastic formula; it is a flawless one coater (though I do recommend two coats for a better wear time). The formula is neither too thick or too thin, has great pigmentation, it is smooth, even and non-streaky to apply, it dries quickly, and I’ve not experienced any shrinkage or staining [I always wear a basecoat]. In general nail polishes will last me anywhere between two to four days with only minimal wear. But as I’m a self powered wheelchair user I’m tough on my hands and am always catching my nails, so I can’t really speak for how long lasting the formula is overall.
