This is not a beginner color, nor one for those who lack patience. Difficult, streaky application until you apply the 4th coat. Even then, you must be careful to not overbrush. Swipe quickly and confidently, and resign yourself to fixing the inevitable streaking with the next coat. Luckily, I found it dried quickly between coats (although other reviewers disagree on this point). Mine did dry in a reasonable time with no “sheet marks” or smudges to speak of.
The color is a beautiful opaque white. It has a very faint lavender-gray tone if you squint. They probably shouldn’t have put lavender in the name. It would be a bit confusing if you were buying it online and didn’t have the bottle in hand to see it is pure, cool white. Great for many skin tones from pale to dark, especially for ladies with cool skin.
As with all Sally Hansen polish, I adore the dense, wide brush. It’s manufactured well and free of any stray or uneven bristles. I find this kind of brush very beginner friendly. Some don’t care for this type of brush, while others of us love the ease and speed of application. The formula of this polish, however, makes it very streaky and difficult to apply. Sally Hansen polishes usually apply streak-free, but not this one. If you don’t have loads of patience and precision, I’d skip it. I’m skilled at home manicures, but even I had trouble with it. The color is perfect, but I’ll choose a different white when this bottle runs out.
I added a photo in bright daylight. It was taken 4 days after a home manicure, so some imperfections and wear are visible…but hopefully it gives you an idea of the color.
If this is your first Sally Hansen polish, I would not base your impression of the line off this polish alone. 99% of SH polishes are opaque, streak free, and apply like a dream. This just isn’t one of them.

This was my first bottle of Complete Salon Manicure, I found it on clearance for $2 and decided to give it a try. The brushes for these take some getting used to.
I do like the color quite a bit on it’s own, it gives a nice opaque white without being chalky or looking like whiteout. While there’s a lavender tone to it, it’s not really noticeable. Probably other people wouldn’t wear this as a full nail color, but I do sometimes when I want something different. I have some pink tones to my skin that don’t always go with this.
Application takes three coats for it to be perfectly opaque on me, and that does extend the drying time quite a bit. I’ve had some issues with sheet marks on my nails the next day because of this.
I’ve worn it without a top coat, but since I change my manicure once every other day, wear hasn’t been a big issue so far. It’s not a go-to color, it’s not a “wow” color, but it’s different.

I’m surprised this is rated so low. Yes, it did take 3 coats for me, but it’s such a light color that’s not really surprising, so I’m not knocking a lippie off for that. The formula is very creamy though and easy to apply. I love the color; it’s the perfect off-white I’ve been looking for; the purple tones in it are very subtle. Personally I love the brush, but I know that can be a love/hate thing for a lot of people. I do miss the old style CSM bottles, though since they were much easier to store.

I dont know what everyone is talking about. The formula to this product is great. It’s like Essie Ballet Slippers but with less streaking and a much better brush. I love the new and improved SH Complete Salon Manicure line. They have the same colors as the old line (ie- Pat on the Black) but the brush is wonderful and the formula has less streaking and it doesnt chip as quickly. I was my hands constantly and do the dishes about 4 times a week and there was maybe a chip on my middle finger. I did apply a top clear coat, but I think the quality of this nail polish has improved greatly, and much better than Essie. I will be sticking to this line from now on. No more Essie for me!

not enough color for me. i wanted a nice lavender color but this is too sheer. love this collection though. love the wide brush.

This is the second time I have used this color. I have to say that for how thick the polish is, it doesn’t cover well at all, but when it finally does, it is a solid color which is what I wanted. I used Sally Hansen’s Insta-dri drops after each coat and made sure each coat was as dry as possible before adding the next coat. This particular color goes on very streaky. I have to apply four coats to get it just right, so including a base coat and a gloss coat on top it would practically take someone a whole day of polishing and drying and avoiding touching anything to get this to where it looks like you got it done at a “salon” which is contrary to what the name of the product would lead you to believe. I wouldn’t buy anything from this line again because I don’t have the kind of time it takes to nurse the polish dry with how thick it is. Last week I used a dollar-store nail polish that only took me a half an hour to apply and got compliments on it all week. lol. If it weren’t for loving the color I wouldn’t have even given this polish a second go.

I’ve been looking for a nice, opaque white nail polish (to do my entire nails, not a French manicure) on and off for a while now, but most have been too sheer and the one other that I came across that was opaque (Sally Hansen InstaDry in Whirlwind White) was too streaky and dry-looking and settled into my cuticle areas, looking like I had done a manicure with Whiteout. I’ve said before that I hate the wide, flat brushes, and this is no exception, but the above-average formula for a white polish makes this polish worth it anyways. This is a nice, opaque, fairly glossy, minimally-streaky white polish. I used it over my China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat and with my Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Platinum as a top coat (I find this makes my polishes nice and hard to the touch, preventing chipping and indentation), and it looks good with 2 coats on my fingers and little toes, and 3 coats on my big toes just to make sure the whole area is streak-free and even. I like to avoid doing more than 1 coat of polish with a base coat and top coat just because I find the thicker the polish, the more likely it is to peel off of my tiny nails, but a lot of polishes can’t get away with less than 2 coats, and white is normally lucky to get away with less than 3, so I’m willing to settle with 2 coats of this. I can’t comment on the length of wear yet since I just applied it, but if it’s compareable to Red Zin in the same line, it should wear for about 5 days without chipping, with a good base and top coat. The name is deceiving… I don’t detect any hint of lavender in this polish at all. To me, it’s just white. There’s another white in this line called Polar Bare, but that looked like it would probably go on sheer (looked a bit more transparent when I tilted the bottle), though I could be wrong. This looked to be the most opaque out of the white polishes I had seen, so I took a gamble and just bought it, and I’m glad I did because it’s pretty much what I had hoped for. If you’re in the search for a nice, opaque white polish, give this one a try! I found it for about $7 CAD at Wal-Mart, which seems to be about mid-price for polishes these days. The whole line was on sale for about $3.50 at Shoppers Drug Mart a week or two ago, so they might go on sale again.
Update 08/25/2010: Wow, sooo changed my mind about this polish today. In the light of day and with the edges cleaned up (the stupid wide brushes always make SUCH a mess around my tiny nails), I realize this still just looks like Whiteout. There’s just no getting around it. White polishes all seem to end up looking like a bored-at-work-office-supply-makeshift-manicure. Ewww. Not to mention that even after about 12 hours of drying time, I still got fabric impressions in the polish overnight from my sheets. Ridiculous!
