Colors by Llarowe is an American indi nail polish maker. I find their polishes are unique and varied in both colour and finish. I bought Chasing a Unicorn through their UK stockist.
I believe white holo polish is very hard to produce and Chasing a Unicorn is not exactly white holo. It comes with 2 bottles: white correcting base polish and a light grey top coat. I found it to be a little fussy to apply. I wasn’t sure whether the base colour was also acting as a base coat, so I used a coat of my usual base coat first. The correcting base polish was a a little thick and sticky – I applied 2 coats. The holo top coat was easier to apply. After the first coat the polish still looked white, but the holo effect was not very visible. The second coat took away some of the whiteness, but made it look more beautiful. Because of the number of coats, it look a while to dry, even with the quick dry top coat. Also it looked thick on the nail.
I wouldn’t usually choose to wear white polish, but this one is a stunner. The light grey holo top coat takes away the starkness of the white base, making it much more wearable. You can use the base colour for other polishes too, like neons (I tried in under Illamasqua Nurture and it worked really well).
Even though it is fussy to apply and it takes a while to dry, I loved wearing it. I would repurchase it in a heartbeat.
