I love all butter nail polishes because they have great colors and none of the toxins, but this is probably my favorite. It’s almost black but metallic, super sassy and glam. It’s my go to going out nail color for sure.

I love dark polishes and this is a very flattering metallic charcoal; it isn’t too black and has the slightest green tinge. The formula is incredibly thin, so it goes on somewhat sheer; as a result it needed three coats to become opaque. I usually resent doing three coats, but the thin coats dry very quickly so it wasn’t a problem. The tips of my nails always wear down first and this polish seemed to wear down especially fast, after just one day. I also needed to have my nails buffed really well as this polish highlights ridges. Still, I love the color and the true metallic effect so this will be a great standby when I can’t decide what color to use. I would buy this again.

I love any type of grey polish, but after using Sally Hansen’s gunmetal and Essie’s fair game to bits, I needed something new. This was one of my first Butter London polishes and I was worried that the quality wouldn’t match up to the price… but I was wrong! The color comes off as a dark charcoal grey with a high gloss to it. The first application was a bit streaky, however it was fine after a second coat; I used three to make sure everything was even. If you want dramatic nails, this is a contender!

One of my favorite colors. Chimney Sweep is a dark charcoal metallic grey color…not quite black. Super shiney. I have received many compliments on it. I have a massive collection of polish and this is a keeper. Will buy again!!

This is a lovely shimmery almost black charcoal grey. I used BL TC and BC and it’s wearing fine, though I do change my manis every couple of days so I’m not sure how long it can last. The first coat went on kind of streaky and in the end I used three thin coats instead of two (which looked fine) because I wanted a deep, rich, colour saturated look. It cleans up easily, too, something I’ve found difficult with other black/very dark colours. I really like this one. Highly recommended.
Edit: I’m bumping this up to five stars because it wears so nicely. I usually change NP every couple of days but I had this on for most of a week and it looked great. It looks like rich black pearls on my fingertips. When it started to show a little wear (4-5 days) I added a coat of glitter polish over it and it was stunning for a couple more days.

Chimney Sweep is a lovely metallic gunmetal charcoal color with subtle silver shimmer. This is pretty sheer with one coat but beautiful and opaque after two.

UPDATE: I’ve knocked this down to a 2 rating (from 3) because it simply doesn’t hold at all. Great color but poor formula.
FORMER REVIEW: Beautiful color, terrible wear. I have a number of Butter colors, mostly cremes, and they have great lasting power (including on toes). This had tip wear and started coming up on the sides within three days after a good professional manicure. It also applied very badly – the first coat was too thin and splotchy and the manicurist had to work hard to cover the nails without making it too thick. I’ll stick with Butter’s cremes.

Perfection.
This is a near black gray with a deep shimmer, that is perfect for a finished, dramatic uber dark nail. If you love a blackened neutral nail, this is an excellent choice. As there is no purple, red, green or blue in this one, will pair with just about anything in your closet.
I adore the shimmer in this. Very elegant, no glitter, just a wonderful finish to lift this from black matte or vinyl to a dress up or dress down finish.
As with all Butter London polishes, the application is divine: smooth, even, and dries in record time, even in humidity. I apply three coats, simply because I wanted quite a bit of depth to the color, and I don’t have a steady hand; for those of you who polish well, two coats should give you the color you need.
I’ve been without my acrylics for over six months, and Butter London (as well as Lippmann) has been my go to for long wear.
This is a new favorite …. highest recommendations for an elegant, sophisticated black nail.
