In 2008 China Glaze released their much-lusted-after OMG holographic polish collection, and now for it’s ten year anniversary they’ve re-released six out of the original twelve shades as the OMG Flashback collection. I’ve got a few of their original OMG polishes and think that the strength of the holographic shimmer between the two collections is about the same – such a relief, because the other holographic shades from the brand post-OMG have been pretty “meh”. BFF is a pink-with-a-strong-purple-undertone shade, that is filled with a intense linear holographic shimmer. A lovely shade, that in some lighting looks orchid and magenta in others.
I know that I’m repeating myself a lot in my China Glaze polish reviews, but I’ve just been having loads of good luck with their formulations recently – they were hit or miss for a while, but the brand is now back on track. The formula for OMG is a fantastic one coater if you apply a thicker coat, though I do always recommend (at least) two thinner coats of any polish for a better wear time – but it’s nice to know that if you don’t have a lot of time to spend on your mani, that this is a good time-saving option. The formula is neither too thick or too thin, has great pigmentation, it is smooth, even and non-streaky to apply, it dries quickly, and I’ve not experienced any staining, bleeding, or shrinkage [I always wear a basecoat]. In general nail polishes will last me anywhere between two to four days with only minimal wear. But as I’m a self powered wheelchair user I’m tough on my hands and am always catching my nails, so I can’t really speak for how long lasting the formula is overall.

I used this polish and then I checked the reviews here and was somewhat confused because my BFF looks nothing like the picture accompanying the reviews nor did it look anything like the reviews described.
After doing some research I learned that there were 2 versions released by ChG of BFF, the one descibed in reviews and the one I received. Not really sure why ChG did this as the two polishes are very different.
The BFF I have is more of a warm pink w/strong orangish undertones. That doesn’t sound like a great description and even though it doesn’t look very pretty in the bottle, once applied it is quite nice. Despite the difference in the colors, this version is very holographic as well, especially in brighter lights and outside in the sun.
Since my skin tone is very pinkish, this polish look netural on me yet has some nice spark when the light hits it. I would definitely wear this one to a job interview or conservative work place. The holographic effect gives you a bit of a rebel feeling without being in your face.
The texture was pretty good as was the consistency. However, as with the other reviews you have to be careful with your brush strokes because if the brush drags it does not apply smoothly and looks ridgy. One coat was a little patchy but I got full opacity with two coats. It did dry matte but when I added a QDTC it really shined up.
This comes packaged in the standard ChG polish bottle with the standard brush.
I did deduct a lippie due to the difficulty mentioned above with application but overall I like this polish. Yet there are so many other holographic polishes out there I would not repurchase this one.
I will update in a few days on wear.
UPDATE: I got good wear from this polish. It held up to dishes several times and didn’t chip until today. Decent wear given the fact that I have gone cleaning, dishes and laundry without gloves. My only negative is that I got staining despite using the same base coat (WnW Mega Last) that I have used under much more pigmentated polishes without getting any staining.

China Glaze’s BFF is from the OMG collection which is now in the semi-hard-to-find and expensive category. It is a medium pink-mauve linear holographic polish. When finished, the holo effect looks like a candle flame on your nails. The color is very pretty but definitely leaning toward mauve (pink with purple undertones). The application on this one – as with quite a few of the polishes from the OMG line – is difficult to say the least. The trick to these is to get the polish on the nail in as few strokes as possible and DO NOT go over an already-painted section otherwise you will end up with a bald patch. This occurs on all coats, not just the first. The formula is a little gloopy so I added some thinner and this did dry to a semi-matte finish so a topcoat is a must for a high shine. Drying time was quicker than most China Glaze polishes and wear time was very good at five days with Seche Vite t/c and no chipping. This is a very pretty color and an interesting polish and I would definitely buy it again.

This has to get 4/5 for the glorious holo effect! The base color is a pretty standard mauve/medium pink, nothing really special, but man do those rainbows light up in the sun! The formula on this is goopy and rather rude, but omitting a base coat helps a great deal. Leaving out topcoat is also optimal for maximum holo effect, but lack of base & top coats seriously dent the wear time of this baby.
Fabulous holo, not the greatest formula, and not my fave from the OMG collection–but snap this baby up if you don’t have a medium-pink holo polish.

Beautiful medium pink holo. It looks to be more of a berry color in the bottle, which I was kind of hoping it would be on the nail, but it turns out a lighter pink w/ purple flash on the nail. Still a very pretty color with a strong holo effect. The formula is also slightly matte, so I had to use a top coat with it (no big deal). I did not have any issues with the formula being gloopy though, I found it easy to apply and it dries quickly. Enjoy this collection a lot and would like to get more colors from it!

I rate nail polish mostly based on durability even thou I am a sucker for color :o) I test a polish by how it stands up to dozens of hand washing in a two day stretch. If a polish retains most of it’s original luster and does not chip within two days I give it a more than average grade :o)
ChG BFF stood the challenge beautifuly. I give it a 7 out of 10. Although it got a little dull on the 2nd day of wear, it wasn’t dull enough to need another layer of topcoat. I will definetly use BFF again many times over :o)
I should stress that I use Nailtek II foundation as a basecoat and Seche Vite fast dry top coat.

Overall not bad. The best thing about this polish was the halo effect. However, underneath it was a mauve color that I already owned. Once I got used to the halo I got bored with the color.
As for the formula, it does not get along with base coats. I did one nail with a base coat and it would not go on smoothly. The top coat went on well and made the polish really pop. I did get chipping but only after 4-5 days, which is still unusually short.

Very pretty purple-mauve polish with holo. The holo effect is fairly subtle on me (although still noticeable), so it’s safe to wear to the office. My only complaint is that the application goes on a bit gloppy- other than that, a new favorite.

Love this color, very pretty bright pink with a purple/red/orange holographic effect. Application is satisfactory for me and it dries quickly. Yes it does chip more that average but the color effect is worth it, I couldn’t stop staring at my nails with this on!
