Bad Romance is a black jelly polish, filled with small fuchsia hex glitter and some medium-sized fuchsia hex glitter. The black jelly base is so well pigmented that it is opaque in two coats, and looks more like a crelly to me.
This polish looks great and the glitter applies & spreads perfectly, which is a huge plus. But the pluses to this polish are lessened by the negatives I’ve experienced with this & other Deborah Lippmann polishes; they are slow to dry and the quick-dry topcoats I’ve tried using on them (China Glaze, OPI for Sephora & Ciate) don’t work – in fact qd topcoats turn the polish into a gunky mess, so I end up removing my mani straight away. Quick dry drops DO work, luckily, so I use my OPI or Zoya ones after the second coat of polish (I leave the first coat to dry naturally).
The formula for this isn’t what I’d expect from a polish with a RRP of £14.50. As well as being slow to dry, the polishes ten d to chip after the first day. IMHO Deborah Lippmann polishes aren’t worth the hype they get – none of the ones I’ve tried in the brand have amazing formulas.

I love this Bad Romance nail polish! 😀 But it is not perfect. First, I will get the bad out of the way. 😛 This was my first Lippmann nail polish and it all but killed me to spend the $18 on this… I do have Chanel polishes though so I guess that is kind of silly. 😛 But I don’t know, I am kind of over the over-hyped polish thing… I think that much is sort of ridiculous for a nail polish when there are salon polishes out there just as good- but this isn’t about that!! SO… I think it is a bit overpriced. I thought it was pretty unique though I see now there is a Revlon dupe… 😛 So I guess it really isn’t a one of a kind anymore… Now the good: I love the black jelly base and the purple/magenty (yes I made that up) hexagonal and little square glitters… It is gorgeous. On the nail, as others have said, it is not quite as brilliant as in the bottle… The glitter comes out a little uneven but I actually like the imperfection of the effect… The polish goes on well and dries pretty fast. Two coats is pretty opaque. I feel it lasts pretty long, about a work week without any wear for me. I got tons of compliments on this unique color. I would definitley repurchase but first I may compare it with the dupe… (sorry to say). The price is a little bit inflated, but I find this color a staple to my collection and a color I would wear quite often. Better than basic black and not too over the top. Vampy sexy.

Cool-looking black jelly with purple and silver sparkles and flakes. The silver does not show up, which is a shame. And the finish is almost matte, you really need a topcoat to make it shiny and show off the sparkles. I wanted this for ages before I bought it and really wanted to like it better than I did. But it is kind of underwhelming on the nail, and the wear was poor. Even with base and topcoat, I had to repair a chip right after I finished my manicure. At this price point, I really expect better. Not sure what the problem is, as Across the Universe doesn’t give me these problems. Might end up giving this away, it is not a worthy addition to my nail polish collection.

As previously mentioned it has a sheer base coat. I would recommend layering over an opaque black or a vamp shade. If you like China Glaze Mummy May I…you’ll love Lippmann’s Bad Romance.

Bad Romance is such a gorgeous polish. It’s the nail equivalent of MAC’s Young Punk MES.
I do wish that the glitter was a little more obvious, even the hexagonal flecks can be hard to see against the black background. A good, shiny topcoat can help it sparkle a little more, but it’s not a dazzling sparkle at all. Rather, it’s more subtle, if a black, glittery nail polish can be called as such.
It can be awkward to get an even distribution of glitter particles on your nails. I found dipping the brush back into the bottle until more appears on it helps, as does gently manipulating the glitter into place whilst the polish is still wet. Apart from that, application is superb. It doesn’t streak & doesn’t have that thick look some glitter polishes can get, especially once they’ve dried.
Would I buy this again? Absolutely. It’s a beautiful polish.

Thin base colour, I use this over Chanel Vendetta as the purple in both work very well together. Very easy to apply, I use only one coat over 2 coats of vendetta. The glitter isn’t glittery, just like bright purple spots over dark purple polish. Do I love it? it’s ok, wouldn’t buy again, wouldn’t wear it alone, it’s interesting for a change, it’s fun for a party yes, but it’s not going to be a staple at all. I am a bit disappointed as I thought it would be glitter, not spots, but it’s ok as I said for fun. Dries fast.

lippmann glitter polishes are a lot of fun, but i find there is a technique to using them. with even 3 coats, the glitter can be sparse and the base color tends to look thin. with this one, i find i get best results by applying one or two coats over a black polish. Color Club Black is just fine, but Chanel Steel or Noir Ceramic are good for a bit more interest. if Bad Romance had more pigment in the base, and more glitter per coat, i would certainly upgrade to 5 stars.. but i recognize this may not be technically possible. i love the color combo, and i wish it was. also, texture is expectedly gritty, considering the big chunks of glitter. something to consider.
