Moonshadow, Flash, & Indo I will probably not get much if any use out of except for playing around but the rest of these colors are really nice! I got this from Ulta’s clearanced out sale at $18, I got it specifically coz it was $18 AND urban decay which is ~approx price of an UD single. I’m glad to have another high quality black shadow, love all the other shades & they perform well. Too bad it didn’t come w a mini brush but I feel bad for ppl who may’ve paid more for this, it isn’t worth more than $20 bucks but it is a high end shadow “box” so what did I expect their other palettes are $55 I own. I may have to experiment w those 3 shades I mentioned up top but I’m into conservative looks seems like these were kind of thrown together haphazardly? Don’t get me wrong I love it for $18. Snap it up at Ulta b4 it’s gone! 🙂

Even though I only paid $18 for this on sale at Ulta, I am waffling on if I should return it or not. I have about 4 of the shades in other palettes. But at $18 (the cost of one UD single), it seems fair for the two colors that are new to me and I do like. Also, I get Bordello which always intrigues me but not enough to buy the single. So…still deciding if I am keeping.
THE BAD: I have heard people always say about both MAC & UD, “oh, these are not the same quality as the singles”…and usually I scoff at that…until this palette. Some of these shades just offer nothing. I tried Freelove this peachy coral shade, thinking “oh Lord…here I go…not my shade & I am going to look silly in this bright color, but lets play”. I applied it waiting for that UD boom…and nothing. I mean NOTHING! I had to pack it on. And this isn’t the only shade suffering this fate. Also, the only matte is the black one (Blackout I think, which I never use). A good soft transition / crease shade would have been nice. So if you are looking for the full experience UD palette THIS IS NOT THE PALETTE TO TRY…HOWEVER…
THE GOOD: I bought this at a pissy “it’s this or eat chocolate & I need a pick me up” moment. It worked. I am having some fun playing with it. I have a new pretty green shade, two pretty purple shades, a cheap little palette with a variety of colors I could take with me to travel (though not ideal cuz I would still need to bring other shades with me). But, eh…for the cost of one single, I get the palette. It is small and reasonable sized.
So if you paid full price for this, I am sorry. If you got the sale price, then have fun and have at it.

I purchased this palette in an Ulta store for $34 about two weeks ago and have tried using it exclusively since then to present an accurate review. Let’s get packaging out of the way. As with every other Urban Decay palette they have spared no expense. This palette is quite small. It’s smaller than a Samsung Note, I’m certain. I was expecting it to be a tad larger, but it’s actually around the same size as the Ammo palette in terms of packaging dimensions. It has a muted flower petal looking design with a silver raised “UD” logo and a magnetic closure. Inside are twelve small eyeshadows with the names printed beneath the pans. The flower petal design carries over to the inside, only it is in black and white. Unlike the Ammo palette, this one does not have a brush slot. In fact, I was highly disappointed that for $34, for such a small palette, you don’t get any swag. No mini brush, no sample of Primer Potion, no mini eyeliner, nada. Zilch. Nothing. Just the eyeshadow palette. There is a generous size mirror inside the lid and in the bottom right-hand corner is the tagline, “beauty with an edge” screen printed on it.
Now on to the fun stuff – the colors. The palette is comprised of nine UD classic favorites and three brand-new shades (I still have no idea which one is the third new shade, because I only recognize Baked Cowboy and Moonshadow as new). On their website it promises a range of finishes, from mattes to shimmer. This is actually sort of a crock. Besides a matte black there are basically only shimmers and metallics and I open this palette and think, “darn you, UD, for not giving us a transition shade once again!” Normally when I use this palette I have to throw some Buck or Naked2 in the crease to have a complete look.
Starting at the top row, left-hand side let’s talk about colors:
Sin – a cult classic. Everyone who knows UD is already familiar with this shade. It’s a shimmery champagne color and it’s gorgeous. Probably my favorite shade in this palette. It may just be my favorite. UD shade over all. Works well as a lid or brow bone highlight.
Indo – I grow so weary of people calling this “indigo” on YouTube. It’s Indo. It’s green. Indo is slang for the marijuana. Get it? This is a shimmery emerald green shade that doesn’t really read as a shimmery green once it gets on your lid. It just turns into a sad, muddy color, which is depressing, because it’s so pretty when you swatch it on your hand.
Bordello – a cross between a frost and a shimmer. It’s sort of a mauve shade. It’s pretty, but produces a ton of fallout.
Tornado – much like Indo this one leaves a lot to be desired once it’s actually on the lid. It looks like a dusty plum in the pan. On the lid it’s just a dusty dust shade.
Smog – Smog is another one you will likely be familiar with. Is it gold? Is it brown? Is it both? One of the better shades in the palette. Applies smoothly and delivers a nice sheen to the look.
Blackout – the only matte in the palette. It is a velvety smooth black, but not as intense as Crave from Naked Basics. I like to use this to deepen up my outer V when the darker shades in this palette predictably fail me.
Flash – an irridescent lilac shimmery color. Much brighter than Tornado and it has decent color payoff, although I would have liked a little more vibrancy.
Mushroom – another cult favorite. It is a silvery taupe shade. Tends to go on a little too dark, but blends out nicely.
Lost – shimmery copper/brown. This one looks nice in the outer corner of the lid, but you need to go over it more than once as this one tends to blend out to nearly nothing.
Freelove – the biggest let down in the whole palette. In order to achieve the rich, coral peach shade you see in the pan you have to pack this warlock onto the lid over and over and over again.
Moonshadow – a royal blue with silver sparkle. Not a fan of this one. The color is nice, but it just doesn’t compliment any of the other shades in the palette, with the exception of the last one I will review…
Baked Cowboy – a rich golden shimmer. This one is gorgeous. It applies well, it looks beautiful, it works well with the other shadows in the palette.
Over all this one is a let-down. It felt hasty. Like the UD execs got together and said, “let’s just throw some crap into a palette and call it a Shadow Box!”. Which is a bit reckless, particularly when you look at the assortment of colors in this palette, notice how the pans are arranged, and it begins to feel a bit disjointed. Perhaps even a bit intimidating? You have a black and a bright gold and this royal blue and this rich green and BAM a peachy coral shade? It’s like nothing seems to fit, although I’ve been able to pull off some looks using it.
Another disappointment is color payoff. It feels a bit like UD is moving away from the vibrant shades that used to be their calling card and are moving more toward perfecting their Naked line. These shadows seem to have suffered under the crushing weight of the neutrals’ success. These don’t have staying power (even with primer). They blend away. They get muddy looking. The more vibrant shades don’t look vibrant once they are applied to the lid. I know those who purchased the latest Vice palette expressed similar views.
I truly feel that UD needs to either step up their game, or discontinue the production of these color shadows mini-palettes.

I chose to purchase this palette to add a pop of color to my eye makeup this spring/summer seasons. You get twelve eyeshadows for $34. The packaging is made of cardboard, it has a mirror and the design is purple petals and black background all over. Looks very punk-rocky.
The consistency of the product is irregular. Three eyeshadows are great, the rest were a dissapointment. I bought this palette mainly for the colors Indo (shimmery teal) and Freelove (shimmery coral). Those were the eyeshadows I ended up liking the least. Indo has a patchy texture and looks darker when applied, Freelove is chalky and lacks pigmentation. Moonshadow (shimmery royal blue) also has a dry texture :/
Well, all of them except Smog, Blackout and Baked Cowboy were a dissapointment to be honest.

Ok let’s do this.
I was interested in this palette but found no reviews on here so I googled it. It seemed “ok”, people were saying the stayng power wasn’t as good as the singles. So I started eyeing the Vice 3 and the Smashbox On the Rocks (the big one) Photo Op eyeshadow palette. But for both of those I felt there were a lot of colors I didn’t need, or already had similar. I wanted some bright and intense colors but not to the level of the UD Electric. So after some back and forth, I went for this. The reason being that I loved loved loved the color “FreeLove” and liked how Bordello looked. I thought Flash had potential and the blue was pretty. For $34 for 12 shades seemed pretty good, and I had a discount. So I bought it.
Before I give my final thought’s, I’ll break it down. But heads up: for almost every color, even with my normal, good primer (and I can say this for the whole palette) they just were not staying on or showing up impactfully. They were kind of hard and certainly not buttery. And this is supposed to be UD!?!
Box/Packaging: This is a cardboard case with metalic “UD” on it and a magnet closure. It didn’t bother me, but it’s also not like, the fanciest case. It seems a little off in the corners/joints. At least mine did. But I liked how it was small and cute and honestly that was the least of my issues.
Sin: A nice slightly pink champagne shimer color I figured I could use for highlighting. This is a pretty color but the longevity is pretty bad. Can hardly see it.
Indo: A pretty teal green, not too much shimmer but not matte, but I have a few colors just like this, so I felt like I wouldn’t use it. The color itself is nice though, but not amazingly interesting.
Bordello: Oh I love this color. It’s a nice pink mauve shimmer but again, with the staying power.
Tornado: Holy tornado I was disappointed with the purples. This is a “deeper” purple shimmer except it’s a joke, it hardly showed at all. The intensity was zero. Looked muddy and uninteresting on.
Smog: This is a nice golden bronze shimmer but I never used it. I have the Too Faced Chocolate Bar which has way better intensity so even though there’s no dupe there for this, I could just mix two colors. 😛
Blackout: A (the only?) matte black. Nothing special. Used it as a liner once, only to do a “shadowbox” look. I have other black shadows so…I guess for a matte it wasn’t too thin but I didn’t use it on the lid like I do with my shimmer blacks so I can’t really say.
Flash: UGH again, a bright iridescent purple, thought it would be lovely. Kinda blah.
Mushroom: This is actually nice as well. A taupey silver shimmer. I’d wear it, but not amazing enough for me to keep for just that.
Lost: I honestly only swatched this to compare with my Chocolate Bar. It’s a copper brown shimmer and it’s similar to the Too Faced Hazelnut. I think, I forget I washed it off, but I found two close enough dupes for two shades in this palette and “Lost” was one.
Freelove: My absolute favorite. An peach gold shimmer. But I just bought it as a single when I returned this palette 😛
Moonshadow: Ugh another major disappointment. It swatches on the finger so nicely, an bright blue with golden shimmer but when you second swatch it on your hand, it falls away horribly. Leaves a trace of a bluish mud. SO let down by that one. Could have been a great color.
Baked Cowboy: A gold shimmer. Wooo so exciting. Feel like Too Faced Choco Bar in Creme Brulee was a good enough dupe (But actually lasts longer.)
So if you couldn’t tell yet, I’m very disappointed with this palette and kept trying to make it work. I feel like, if I didn’t have the Too Faced Palette, the neutral shades of this might have appealed to me more. They seemed to be a bit better at lasting but not what they should be. The bar is high for UD so I was really let down. I thought I was buying a bright, high quality but small and cute palette and I was so unhappy that I returned it, even though I only paid about $20 for mine.
Though I didn’t take swatch comparision photos, I did take a photo of my eyes, one done with some of the colors from the Shadowbox and the other with shades I had from other companies. It’s not too easy to tell they are different so it’s not like the shadowbox was worlds worse, but considering the other ones were drugstore, old makeup I had lying arond, it’s kind of a bummer. And it also shows how I didn’t need many of the colors. And to top it all off, the UD side creased WAY quickly and the other one didn’t at all. So it was the clear loser. I didn’t have exact dupes for all the colors I used, so there is a color difference, but it’s also a difference in intensity. I even asked people which side they prefered before telling them which was which. On both sides I used NYX White eyeshadow primer.
The colors used from the UD Shadowbox were Flash, Indo, Bordello as a transition color above Indo, Sin as a highlight, and Blackout as a liner. I feel like you can’t even tell Sin and Bordello are there. 😛
On the other side I used Matisse Powder Pigment in Violet (dis/t)
L’oreal Iridescence loose powder shadow in Blue Jaded (disc/t)
A loose violet iridescent Physicians Formula powder that’s also disc/t and idk the name, I didn’t have a taupe to compare with Bordello so that had to do.
NYC Sparkle Eye dust in Champagne
Some black shimmer shadow as a liner
As you can see I like loose powder shadows.

I saw this palette at Ulta 3 days ago. I didn’t even know that Urban Decay was releasing this palette exclusively for Ulta. They had it on display but did not have testers. Either way I decided to pick it up because I already know the texture and quality of Urban Decay eyeshadows and the color arrangement seemed very appealing to me (I own Alice in Wonderland palette, Naked 3, Vice 2 and a few single eyeshadows).
To my surprise, this palette is not that great at all. From the 12 shades, I would say that only a few are truly creamy and very pigmented as the usual quality that Urban Decay has. Most of them seem to be a bit dry and rougher in texture and definitely less pigmented. I had to keep packing the color on my lids, one layer after the other to see a decent color pay off. I always wear eyeshadow primer and yet after 4 hours, the color “Bordello” (which was the shade that I was the most excited about) faded from my lids almost completely and I don’t have oily eyelids.
The only shades that are good as usual are Smog, Lost, Mushroom and Baked Cowboy.
Everything else is quite mediocre. I was also excited because it is small, therefore great for travelling. I don’t think that this palette is worth the price. I will be returning it as soon as I can. Too bad that Ulta is far from where I am. But no way I am keeping it. Especially because with the fall and upcoming holidays there will be tons of palettes released.
In my opinion, skip this palette and wait for something better, unless you don’t mind packing the product a lot and to use a base to help with adhesion, something a bit sticky (besides a primer). The quality of most of the shades isn’t bad, as I mentioned a few are good, most of them are so so and a few are bad, which, in conclusion, is definitely NOT the quality that I’m used to expect from this brand. Urban Decay had never disappointed me before, but this time they certainly did 🙁
